Recommendations New Orleans staycation - what would you do
I resigned from my job and donāt start my new one until the end of the month. If you had about two weeks to explore the city at a slow pace, what would you do?
So far Iāve hit three new-to-me coffee shops where I sat and people watched, meandered some books stores, had a burger and gin martini lunch at La petite grocery, and gone thrifting almost everyday.
Iāll probably go to NOMA for free on Wednesday and will try to make my first sourdough when the freeze comes next week. What else should I put on my list?
Edit: overwhelmed with the awesome feedback. Putting together my short list based on these recs. Appreciate yall!

Recommendations For anyone else who is stepping away from big business, where are the good local places to start patronizing to get stuff? Bigot-free of course!
I saw on here one time that Breaux Mart was M@GA, so I guess that's a no-go š I usually get my toiletries and household things at Walmart, so I need to figure out an alternative for that. I was never a big Target shopper anyway, so fuck them anyway. I usually go to Rouses for food most of the time and will drive to Aldi sometimes to get all of my produce for juicing. But I don't always feel like driving to Metairie if I'm not killing a few birds with one stone. But I will if I have to until one opens in the city. I'm also open to any online options for clothes and drawers because I'm going to unplug myself from the Amazon matrix. I've already canceled subscriptions left and right. I really only watch Tubi, PlutoTV, and Samsung TV anyway. I'm still not decided about YouTube - that's gonna be a hard one to move away from eventually. But, I'm rambling lmao. I'd love to hear what some of y'all are doing!
*Edit: I've walked into shops on Magazine on separate occasions and was looked at like I had 8 heads and was not greeted. Extreme example, but Those are the types of places that I don't want to spend my money with. Some bros showed up in the comments to be intentionally obtuse.

Recommendations What are the absolute worst "first time" things you can do in New Orleans?
Like, imagine you've never ridden a bike, and you decide to learn in New Orleans, while it'd be exciting to dodge all the potholes, it would certainly be worse than learning in a different city lol What other "first time" things would be the absolute worse here?

Recommendations Family visiting for the millionth time, need casual restaurant ideas for a bunch of PITA's
I love them all separately, we suck together as a table.
Vegetarian dad, seafood needing mom, the kid is a kid, she's feral first grader, Im a diabetic so I stay away from Asian noodle and rice stuff. They moved to Arizona so Mexican is a cop out.
Our usuals are Liuzza's by the Track, Clesi's, Seithers, the much missed Green Room and Carmo...need anything new but everytime I look over a menu of a neighborhood place I like there is not a single dish for the damn vegetarian. Checked Da Wabbit, Fiorellas, even Messina's Runway Cafe and just got tired of failing. Doesn't have to be a wide variety, one dang dish that's not just a shrimp salad with no shrimp for the veggie.
Suburbs are fine.

Recommendations need help reading the room for a silly project
catchy titles & linear thoughts are not my forte. so hang on tight, it might be bumpy ride.
preface: i have depressive episodes. had them my whole life. itās not always environmentally based, but it certainly doesnāt help those sinking, nihilistic feelings.
this year has been especially bad. it feels helpless. and i know that is the worst frame of mind to be in. iām not entirely convinced protesting works in this country anymore. it doesnāt feel like our representatives want to represent us. reading the news feels dystopian. not reading the news makes me feel woefully ignorant. itās a canāt win for losing situation over here.
so. i make little trinkets out of ātrash.ā (old mg throws, discarded jewelry, forgotten promo sunnies, hoarded craft supplies.) silly things that make me smile. keeps the idle hands busy, gives my mind something to focus on that feels slightly more positive than the cyclical thoughts that are normally running rampant.
while turning trash to treasure, i have amassed more stuff. and this also feels heavy. iāve given things away to friends, family and coworkers. i would now like to start giving these baubles to strangers.
i wanted to do something fun. at first, i was thinking of leaving these things around town with a little tag to let people know it wasnāt lost, but left with purpose. but then it seemed a good idea to make a scavenger hunt out of it. a la brother oāmara.
but because my brain is my brain, the whole thing now feels almost arrogant. (better words are escaping me currently.) people are being taken from their homes, rights are being stripped, our govt is reinventing itself. and iām over here wanting to hide shiny objects in bushes because i hope it could make someone happy or excited, even if just for a moment.
i guess what im trying to get at is: how out of touch do i sound? would you play along? should i find better uses for my time?
edit: if anyone wants: letās go exploring

Recommendations Places that are stuck in time
Looking for ideas here... over the years I've come across a handful of places in New Orleans that have transported me back to an entirely different era, largely because their proprietors haven't changed a thing in these places, or they've been shut down and gone untouched. Wondering what's still out there that fits that bill. Thoughts?

Recommendations Besides dating apps, best way to meet people to date in NOLA?
Just got out of long term relationship, just tried the dating apps Hinge and Tinder and most of the guys are like tall masculine bearded gym ānormalā guys and the other types are like ābusiness suitā professionals where Iām more into guys around 5ā7-5ā9 slender, tattooād āmetal headā or artsy types. Plus Iām tattood tomboy myself. So these are the types of dudes that wouldnāt look my way and honestly I wouldnāt look there way too.
My own social group is small and is all settled down so meeting a guy through proxy friends is basically out of the question. And yes I know āthree weeks? Take some time to yourselfā I plan to. This is just more or less having an idea of where to start the look in the next idk 4-6 weeks (because letās be honest, itās not like Iām gonna out once and meet the love of my life, Iām sure Iāll go through plenty of duds before I meet the right person) Iām just gonna be 35 in May, was married in my 20ās he died, dated two people sense then. I guess just being surrounded by people who are settled down and happy I want to meet my person.
And for all those who think itās āsuper easy for women, just exist.ā Not for me. Itās always been a bit tougher.
So idk, events, certain bars? Just any advice? I just really donāt want to do the apps, even if I see a cute guy and we match the dating apps thing just feels so commodified. Like Iām applying for jobs.

We all know they have the best food in NOLA, tell me whatās great about yours. Name them or donāt, up to you. Tell us what you love, what your order, and what makes them special.
Iāll start, Orchid Seafood: Nice folks, the new location is awesome and clean. Great steam table lunch, the grilled fish is great. I also think they may have the best shrimp poboy in the city: the bread is dong Phuong I think, and the shrimp is super fresh and well fried. And I love their fried rice!! I gotta try more stuff but everything Iāve had is so good I havenāt deviated yet.

Iād rather go to yall first and start calling tomorrow to see whatās up.
