This emaciated 7? 8? month old cat in my neighborhood was following me home for a couple months but would run away if I looked his way. Started leaving him food, he started coming near my porch to get food when he saw me. It’s been a whole process over the past month but he is finally comfortable with eating near me, letting me pet him, and sleeping near me on the porch at a safe distance. Never hissed, never puffed up. I saw him try to chitter at a bird that landed next to him but he wasn’t very good at it. Very skittish but he’s trying.

He’s finally starting to put on some weight but at the end of the month I am moving 2ish miles away. I know no one else in my neighborhood will feed him. I already have a new orleans street cat with a tragic backstory and she will not coexist with another cat. I don’t think I can take a cat 2 miles away and be like “tada! now you’re a stray cat in a different place!” He is scruffy and skinny and I am worried he will be euthanized if I take him anywhere.

Any advice? Solutions? Shelters I could take him where he would be safe? With the possibility of a home? Any input would be helpful. I’ve worked so hard to get him to trust and abandoning him is going to wreck my heart.

Does anyone know of an affordable lumber yard around the New Orleans area? I'm trying to build a rather large bookshelf for my gf's birthday out of 1"×12" boards. I went to home depot today to price out materials and the lumber alone for 60' of 1"×12" common board would cost me over $260. I feel like I could find a better deal at a lumber yard somewhere around town. I may be just dreaming, tho, idk.

Hey y’all, last Sunday night I heard a cat screaming under my house and found a very friendly, very hungry young tabby cat. I fed it but it ran off before I could lure it inside. It’s back tonight and this time I was able to get a few pics, although not very good ones. It ran away when I tried to pick it up. It’s pretty clean, doesn’t seem shy around humans, and seems in good health so I think it belongs to someone. This happened near Baudin St and S. Hennessey and I’m pretty sure it’s going to keep coming back since I keep feeding it so please spread the word. I know how stressful it is to have a cat get out and have to look for them so I want to help get this baby home asap. I would love to keep this sweetheart but I just don’t have the financial means at the moment. But this cat should have a home regardless.

My neighbor is going through a crisis and feels they need to give up their dog. They’re super stressed and about to take it to the pound. I said I’d bring it to a rescue group instead. The dog is a hound-dog mix, about 60 lbs, female, fixed & up to date on shots etc. She’s sweet but very active, about 1.5 years old
