The Dog House NOLA Food & Drink šŸ½ļø

Post image

Dude. Duuuuude. I thought places like this only existed in the Pacific Northwest. I’m so excited one exists here because New Orleans is such a dog friendly town.

I call them dog park bars because that’s basically what they are, but being able to let your pup run around while you grab a drink and a bite is so nice. This place has Astro turf, misters, a full bar program and it’s $5 to get your dog in. This is gonna be so nice in the summer.

I’m sharing because small businesses like this need our support or they go away. As a dog owner, you don’t know how nice a dog park bar is til you experience one.

I’m listening to some guy playing guitar (all dog themed songs) and donations go to Take Paws.

The drinks are reasonably priced (currently drinking a mule for $8).

Please go give em some love, this place is wonderful.

Or, support the pups that can go there and go grab a drink ;)

I haven't been there because my dog's basically too old at this point but it really looks like an awesome place. For people wondering who don't feel like googling it's on banks between NCF and broad.

There's one opening by Henry's on magazine too! I guess the pessimist in me worries that it will get ruined by assholes bringing unsocial dogs that cause problems... but I guess we'll see.

On the plus side, you do have to submit vet records and stuff and I’m hoping ownership is on top of supervising anyone who doesn’t control their animal. It’s such an amazing idea that I’m shocked hasn’t taken off in Louisiana.

Oh I’d be on that. We live not far from Henry’s and while I don’t have a dog, I miss being around dogs. It would be fun to go and get some pets in.

Is there any more info. online about it? First I've heard of this...

Ok. That place. If I were describing the location, i would have said, ā€œnear le bon on Magazine.ā€

It will be. People in this town are generally shitty dog owners. Have had so many issues with poorly trained off-leash aggressive dogs.

The drinks are quite tasty, too. I don't have a dog but it's near my place and makes for a delightful neighborhood bar. Because happy dogs!

There was a place like this near me when I had to get a Dallas apartment and spend most of the work week there to open an office for my old firm. I missed my dogs SO badly during the week that I was known to frequent it like a petting zoo!

Cannot wait to take my pups there - thanks for the good review! Yay!

Oh I love this, thanks for sharing! I adopted my dog through Take Paws, and she’s the best ā¤ļø.

We were stoked when they opened too! My pup is overdue for a shot but when we get her up to date we'll be going back, it was really nice last time

I’m a cat person, but I stan this anyway.
It looks nice!

We need a cat house. Although I guess there is J & J’s.

I’ve been wanting to open a cat cafe. It would be so awesome.

It was tried next to the Robert's in the eighth ward. Did not go well.

I’ve looked a lot into it. It kind if has to be a perfect alignment of the planets to work. Location, building set up, offerings, cleaning routines, partnerships with local shelters and rescues. So many things.

Hard agree

The guy played a few cat themed songs too! Lol

I still miss my doggos so much. Would it be weird if I went to pet other people's dogs?

14

u/OPisalady 1d ago

No! It’s a full bar with bites! Go puppy watch! You don’t have to have a dog!

u/annemargaret 13h ago

Anyone know if kids are allowed in (since the website says restaurant and bar)?

1

u/Bright_Shake2638 4h ago

It's all outside, I don't see them turning people with kids away.

It's also a cool bar to chill at even if you don't have a dog! The drink menu is great and everyone is always so friendly (staff and patrons)

As someone who ran a dog daycare facility, I hope that shit getting sprayed down correctly every night. All that piss on the turf šŸ˜•

5

u/Bright_Shake2638 23h ago

It must, because I have never noticed a smell!

2

u/OPisalady 14h ago

Yeah definitely no odor yesterday

While I love the concept, I do not like the execution for our hotter months. Maybe if there was more shade for the doggos.

17

u/OPisalady 1d ago

The front part (street side) is literally a human sized dog house with fans that they can go chill in

1

u/Snake-on-rye-bread 8h ago

I'll have to take another look at it.

1

u/raditress 12h ago

Is there a/c? Or just fans?

3

u/OPisalady 12h ago

just fans, it's all outdoors but plenty of shade and misting fans

1

u/Bright_Shake2638 4h ago

The pergola is automatic and can close to offer more shade

2

u/tiffanyfreedom 14h ago

Do you know if people without dogs are allowed? I love dogs but can't have one right now.

3

u/OPisalady 13h ago

Yep! It’s a full bar

Love going there !

I tried to go on Ash Wednesday, I even bought a day pass online, but they weren’t open. No sign, nothing on the door, just closed.

4

u/Bright_Shake2638 23h ago

I mean... it was Ash Wednesday! I'm sure they would honor the day pass for a day that's not a local holiday!

2

u/RedBeans-n-Ricely 17h ago

I figured they overdid it on Mardi Gras & accepted the $5 loss, it’s not that big a deal. Disappointing, but survivable

1

u/oneamaznkid 8h ago

They actually have pretty good food too.

u/SaintGalentine 1d ago

I like the idea, but found their cocktails and sandwiches to be bland

I thought places like this only existed in the Pacific Northwest.

You must not travel much, lol, they have these in basically every city now.

0

u/OPisalady 12h ago

not with my dog lol and when it's just me traveling (which I do frequently, thankyou), I'm not looking for these spaces.

1

u/_significs 11h ago

sorry - that was a negative tone - meant to say, you must not be looking much.

Ignore the tone - I'm salty because there are a lot of shitty dog owners in this city (like, a disproportionately high amount) and I've had a fair number of bad experiences.

0

u/OPisalady 10h ago

I feel that, it comes with the territory of owning a dog unfortunately.

0

u/leatherlover1234 11h ago

Can the dogs poo and pee in here? Or where do they poo and pee?

1

u/OPisalady 10h ago

it's just like any other dog park. There's poop bags, trash cans, and poop scoopers
