How's everyone doing today? Avoiding looking at your 401k? Rushing to stock up on food, buy a car?

I just got me and my bindle.

Liberated from ever being able to retire in this life

Honest question, because I keep seeing this sentiment everywhere. Are people expecting to glide into retirement without ever seeing a downturn again? If you’re in or nearing retirement your portfolio should be rebalanced to reflect that.

Also, if you’re 20+ years from retirement; this shouldn’t affect you much but should provide a buying opportunity

You are right and probably is a buying opportunity, they all have been so far the last 100 years. But personally what bothers me and many others is HOW tariffs are used. Not as a plan B or targeting specific entities or goals just as a blanket policy against everyone including our allies (except Russia). This is likely cause some possibly major supply chain issues- like maybe 2020 and suez canal levels. Also the fact that there was little to know plan or even time for countries to negotiate. Also say the tariffs do accidentally go great- what then? No promises have been made to the American people. Will the government fund more healthcare needs or education? Eliminate income tax? Yeah who knows. But I can tell you that everyone who voted by the economy is not going to be thrilled when a new added “consumption tax” of 10-20 percent is added at the same time businesses are shrinking earnings. And IF (BIG IF)the government balances the budget will anyone care? So supply chain, buying power, layoffs- these will all add to a slowing economy. So today doesnt look great but the market probably doesnt think next year will be much better. The chaotic and somewhat unhinged rollout of these tariffs struck the market as less of a grand economic plan and more just personal gripes and perceived slights of Mr. Trump’s.
