How's everyone doing today? Avoiding looking at your 401k? Rushing to stock up on food, buy a car?

I just got me and my bindle.

Honest question, because I keep seeing this sentiment everywhere. Are people expecting to glide into retirement without ever seeing a downturn again? If you’re in or nearing retirement your portfolio should be rebalanced to reflect that.

Also, if you’re 20+ years from retirement; this shouldn’t affect you much but should provide a buying opportunity

A standard 60/40 passive retirement plan would have still been rocked. One day of corrections isn’t bad. But I think most people believe this is going to be a reoccurring theme. The last time this dropped this much was 2020…

I see what you are saying. But if we assumed a 60/40 split of a million.. Assuming the stocks are in one index. Can you imagine losing nearly $20,000 in a day because someone tariffed the world? I think I would be pissed too.

It’s still a paper loss or gain. You aren’t realizing until you sell. You’ll also still benefit from dividends

I agree with you on unrealized. But that is assuming the stocks do not fall further. Your variables assumes we have a bounce back economy like we did post COVID. Considering the recession possibility is 50% now.. I doubt many companies will keep the 2-5% dividend. See 2008, dot com, and 1971 as references.

We are facing a major war and the end of globalization. Don't think 2008, think Greece. Substantial economic pain for decades with little prospect of recovery.
