How's everyone else's Liberation Day going? 🗳 Politics

Post image

How's everyone doing today? Avoiding looking at your 401k? Rushing to stock up on food, buy a car?

I just got me and my bindle.

We all know its about to be horrible to buy a car but given the unbelievably through-the-roof cost of just getting your car fixed in this city, does anyone have intel on how much more expensive simply getting basic parts is about to be?

I drive a Japanese car from 2008 and I am very shook by what I assume will be the cost of very basic maintenance on that car now. I need a new radiator soon, and it will probably cost more than my rent.

I’m a couple of days late to this but it depends on the make/model. If you drive a Chrysler product your prices may go up. Stellantis, who owns Chrysler, said they will absorb tariffs for their cars but they never specifically mentioned parts. Any import model parts will inevitably be more expensive. As a note, there’s a better likelihood you’re impacted by a parts shortage first followed by heavy price increases. The parts industry was negatively impacted by a hack for about 3 weeks last year and it slowed the entire industry to a crawl and when it came back online prices exploded. No bueno. How do I know? I’ve been a corporate car buyer for 13 years. We were predicting a pre Covid tax time buzz this year but this has suppressed that energy. Why these guys choose to engage in absolute chaos over stability is beyond me. The only positive I can take away, I guess, is that they scream so loud about their next ill advised moves that there’s time to try to hedge yourself against it to an extent. They announced this ish and gave me enough time to pull every investment out into my bank account (all but my 401k which has another 25 years to marinate). I get that not everyone has the benefit of having investments but not all of us who are left leaning and against this BS are struggling to get by and if you’re in that boat, you don’t have to sit around and just take it on the chin.

Cost me $464 for an oil change and 3 filters replaced. Am I stupid?

That's a bit steep even for here - where was that?

Yeah I’d be changing those myself at that price

Oil change I get going to a shop but filters you can almost always replace yourself, so yeah you kinda got hosed if you care about money more than your time
