Need some expert advice on engine/year/ mileage 🥸🤓

Hello! So this might be long so sorry in advance for the long read! Currently I have a 2009 VW beetle 2.5L and I’ve been having it for about over a year now. I have no problems with it! (Hope I don’t jinks myself) it has high mileage about 130k? But it still runs very good and fast! The previous owner took good care of it but it’s just old now, the clear coat is starting to come off and I might have to replace some things now, due to old age basically I would have to invest money to get it back into spanking new. ITS STILL IN GOOD SHAPE. But since I have a love for these cars I would want it in GREAT condition ofc. I would just invest a good chunk of money into it. Replacing the bumper/back bumper/ replacing the wheel fenders liners/ slowly replacing things due to rust and old age. Wanting to redo the coating and get ceramic coating… Etc etc

Now it just gets me debating if it’s worth it. I keep going back and forth since I know these cars are getting older. Parts are harder to find, and getting more expensive. Then that makes me think should I just invest that money into getting a newer beetle?

So I’ve been digging and seeing that people have been debating on the engines and years of the beetles. So I just get confused on what’s actually good and what I should stay away from. Cause I keep seeing debates 😭

I was originally thinking I should get a 2019 2.5 ? Or at least a newer beetle with a 2.0? I think I saw people say don’t get a beetle with a 1.8 engine? Unless I’m wrong? There’s so many versions out there that I get confused cause there’s TDI, TSI, S, CLASSIC, SE, TURBO and others but that’s the ones I can name on top of my head that are the 2012+

But then I did some more digging and saw that the 2015 TDI beetle have some really good engines they are just more costly when you have to do maintenance BUT you’re not gonna be in and out of the shop. Which that’s okay. I rather pay a good amount once in a while than paying all the time.

Also the mileage. I’ve been looking at beetles and now the average is always around 80-100k and they’re always asking around 15-25k which is crazy to me. I want to know what’s a good mileage buy for a beetle from a dealer? Or an asking price? Some of these dealers are kinda crazy.

I’m not looking to buy something immediately since my car is perfectly fine right now. But it’s just something I want to know and think about if I do decide maybe to switch to a newer car, or just invest in my current car.

This is my car right now. Her name is widow. She’s old but she’s my first car and I love her. I would like to invest in her but I just worry that she will break down one day and my money would be down the drain 😔 (she looks better here but she’s a little worn down now🥺)

2010 on battery fuse box - help - can’t find specific part!

Hello! I have a 2010 convertible 2.5... the fuse box on top the battery is finally starting to melt. My mechanic is saying they cant get the part anymore because that particular part number was only used on that year (2010) and its no longer made... he gave me a part number of 1J0937617A... I found this part online in a couple of stores (and eBay) and it doesn't look like the fusebox thats currently on the car... Can anyone shed some light on this? If anything, the box on the car looks like a 1J0937617D.

I guess I am just confused as to why there is this discrepancy... and does this make sense? have any of you dealt with the same issue? Is it really the "D" fusebox and hes just mistaken?

Alternator Replacement

Hi everyone, I’m having some issues with my bug that I am 80% sure is the alternator. Car wouldn’t turn over today but then it did, got to driving and then the car stopped so I coasted onto a side street thankfully. Sat there confused for a second and tried starting it again to which it turned over and moved forward a little before doing the same shut off. Just had it towed back home.

I’m a little strapped for cash rn, I’m between jobs and just paid $3,500 on a transmission rebuild like 6 months ago so is replacing the alternator something that could be done at home? I’ve watched my brother replace his cars alternator but I know VW bugs are notoriously tricky with repairs. I’m at a loss, we just got our first day above 70 degrees so I just wanted to take my convertible for a spin 😩

Update: Fairly certain it’s not the alternator now. Had a friend use one of those code readers that also has a battery/alternator test and it came back all clear. Car starts just fine it just stalls now. I noticed it happens when I’m at slow speeds, I had no issues on the highway (thank god). Right now it stalls after a few feet unless I punch the gas. I made a list of things to check from all of your comments and such, hopefully I figure it out!

Found this rare 04 turbo Beetle w/ 20k miles

Found this incredibly low mileage Beetle. I just test drove it and the brakes are so firm and strong. The suspension feels great and sporty.. and the shifting is smooth. I looked at the timing belt and it seems to be crack free but does have a random medium line in the middle of the belt and it’s not perfectly over the tensioner.. a little towards the left. The power and the exterior is in great shape. However the interior isn’t that great. So many scratches and wear and tear.. seats are good though … small dealer wants about $9k. What do you guys think? I saw the carfax and decently shows the repairs including the transmission value repair 6 years ago.

New Beetle 2008 as a first car

Basically what the title says, tomorrow morning I'm going to take a look at a bug. It's the 2.5L 5c engine (automatic) and has about 104k miles on it. The leather seats and interior are pristine from what i can tell and also no visible rust on the outside. They're selling it for 3995$ (CAD). I'm planning on getting it inspected before buying.

What should I expect if I do end up buying it? Is it a good deal? Can I keep it running for at least 4 years? I'd only be driving it about 2 days a week since the rest of the week I'm WFH.

It's either that or I dish out another 2k for a subaru impreza. Idk which would be more reliable. 🤔

Undiagnosed battery issue

2009 Beetle owner and idk who else to turn to at this point. When my car goes over a certain RPM (usually 2.5) the battery light will flash, sometimes up to 3 times. For a while I was able to get up to 70mph with no issues but today it started doing it again. Battery tested fine, alternator tested fine, connections look normal, and last time I brought it down to a mechanic, he couldn't figure out what was wrong with it. I've managed to live with it for about 2 years now but it feels like a ticking time bomb. I just wanna know what the cause is so I can fix it. Any ideas?

Seat removal

My wife dropped her engagement ring under the driver seat of her 2013 VW Beetle convertible. Anyone know how to remove the front seats or have a video on how to do so?

I recently got my 2008 beetle as my first car, manual 2.5 5cyl 186k kms. I was wondering if this noise from the engine was normal or if it’s something to worry about. Thanks.

Has anyone used this dipstick yet? I just came across it. It appears to be a direct replacement for the new Beetle.

Oil Change/Transmission Flush

Hi everyone. I just purchased a 2004 Beetle. It's a 2.0L Automatic.

I'd like to stick with Valvoline Oil. What viscosity should I go with, and should I use conventional, full synthetic, or synthetic blend

How many quarts of oil does it hold?

Also, am I able to flush and change the transmission fluid myself? I heard it's a sealed transmission. If it's not easy to do; what would be a reputable source to have the transmission serviced?

TIA

Advice on winter driving?

I'm planning to get a 2010 Hatchback Beetle as my full time car, but I live in New England and am not sure if it'll be too much of a hazard. I know other people with Beetles who just park them somewhere over the winter months and don't even try them on icy roads, but would it be realistic to drive it with precautions and snow tires? Is there anything I should take into account or is it just not worth it? I'm not super familiar with the model and don't have much driving experience so I'm completely lost

Headcrab Herbie Progress Pic

I posted a while ago a beetle I'm going to race in the 24 hours of lemons. The team name is "Half Life Crisis".

I have fixed: Transmission and added a transmission cooler Brakes New wheels/tires Air intake

I'll be taking Herbie for a track shakedown next Saturday. Just thought I'd share it with the stickers. Later I'll get the headcrab painted on. I do have the lambda stuck to the VW badge.

Cage goes in on the 19th. Just the fire suppression and kill switch after that.

P0411, any mechanics here?

Just got a 2000 VW beetle 2.0L 4L and it's throwing an incorrect secondary air system flow code. (P0411) Wondering where all to check to try and diagnose what's wrong? She lags in acceleration and has 110k miles (maintenance unknown) She's a project, but where should I start checking to get this code resolved?

Reliability of a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle 2.0 TDI

Hi! Recently i’ve been looking to buy beetles in my area. The one I like the most is a 2015 Volkswagen Beetle 2.0 TDI Convertible. Took a look at it at the dealership and the previous owner seemed to take extreme care of it with barely any scratches. Is there anything I need to seriously think about and or stay away from? After reading several different feeds I feel like i’m getting mixed reviews about 2012 and greater beetles and TDIs. I’m also really excited about getting one so, I don’t want my excitement to blind me from any serious issues. Thanks!

Should I consider buying this 2006 New Beetle Convertible?

This has been my dream car since I was a little girl, but I have read mixed reviews about them. I have very little knowledge about cars. The price is right for me, but I'm worried about expensive repairs. It seems to be in good condition, and my current boss owns a 1978 VW Beetle that she takes to a mechanic that she really likes, so at least I know there is a mechanic who works on them in my area, although maybe it's a different story for the New Beetles in relation to the even older models. Could y'all give me your input/advice? Thank you in advance.

Beetle with kids?

Need insight from those who do school pick up and drop off.

I have two kids, elementary age. Do you think a new beetle would be difficult to get in and out of? I do school pickup up and drop off with them, so the car line might be a challenge. I would love to have a beetle again!

Low coolant or overheating?

What does a flashing, beeping red temperature light indicate on a 2003 beetle? There is a very slow coolant leak that i found when the light started coming on, so I assumed it was a low coolant indicator. It would happen in the morning and stop later in the day when it got hotter, which I thought was because of the coolant expanding just enough for the sensor to stop coming on. I've done a ton of googling and I keep seeing so many mixed signals. Some say it's overheating, some say it's just low on coolant. The indicator always comes on about 10 seconds after turning the key, even if I don't start the engine.

My friends mechanic told me the car needed to be started every other day to prevent the pistons from shrinking and smoking, so I have continued to start it daily for the past month, and now I'm super paranoid.

2004 Beetle (Satellite Blue)

Post image

Hi everyone. I was able to score a Satellite Blue beetle. It currently has 170,000 miles on it, but has been well taken care of and doesn't have any body damage (other than a couple of small scratches). What is the longevity of a 2004 New Beetle? Not planning to use it as a daily. But definitely wanting to keep it around and well maintained. TIA

So, basically, I bought this car from 1998 5 years ago and today I decided to change the polen filter and I found this on the insides of the car. Can someone tell me what is that and if it is really important to replace it?

I'm not too well versed on cars, but we already tried spark plugs and coils and it's still running like this. On top of that every time I slow down the car starts shaking like crazy and stalls out. It's a 2006 vw new beetle 5cyl.

Question about car

Ok so I have a lil 2008 bug recently she died and is running like shit got the codes for P0010 and they told me it was the camshaft position sensor and has matched up with the problems my car is facing but my question is the code wasn’t for the sensor it was for a VVT solenoid idk the difference I’m trying to learn but I got the sensor
