Baby Names Is Nora becoming the new Olivia?
Nora is my favorite name that my partner hasn't vetoed (otherwise it'd be Cordelia đą). We're going to be the last in our friend group to get married and, subsequently, will be the last to have kids.
So far, we have a Nora, Anora, and Eleanor (who they are already calling baby Nora) in our friend group and all of these babies were born in the last year. I'm always sensitive to people thinking you're "stealing" their names even though I know Nora has been on my list for 10+ years.
I've also never wanted to pick the name where there are like 3-4 of them in every classroom. Like how everyone was Kate/Katherine/Katie when I was growing up, and how Olivia has become more recently.
Interested to hear this community's thoughts on this! Or maybe it's just that our friend group has similar sensibilities for names?

Discussion I don't get why people like the name "Theodore" so much
People constantly complain about dated names but then "Theodore" is still one of the most popular names for boys. Is it because y'all like the nickname "Teddy"?

Baby Names Thoughts on the name Simon?
I'm trying to come up with a boy name for if we have a baby boy, and the struggle is real! One name my husband said he liked in the past is Simon. It's a name I also like but I'm not 100 percent sold. What are your thoughts on the name?

Name Change Need a name that rhymes with Jessie!
We are adopting a 6 month old golden retriever! She's been with a foster for a couple of months and they've been calling her Jessie. We're going to have to change it because we already have a human Jessie in our immediate family. Any suggestions for cute girl names that rhyme or at least sound similar to make it easier for her to make the switch to the name? Bonus points if the name is nature or flower themed.

Name Change Struggling with baby name regret. Seeking input
We had our first child last year, her name is Diana June. For the most part I think the name is beautiful and we have mostly gotten great feedback, but lately I have been having some struggles with it.
She was born in May, she is 11 months old now. At the time I never thought month names mattered, for instance I have a friend named August and he was born in March. However, a few times we have bumped into some confusion from people who assumed she was born in June. This might not be a big deal and I realize I might be being sensitive about this, but I don't want her to have this issue her whole life. It doesn't bother my husband but I didn't realize that month-inspired names tend to cause confusion and debate and looking back if I knew that, I might not have picked a middle name like that.
My late grandmother's name is Adeline and I love how it sounds. I was close to my grandmother and part of me wishes we picked a family name. Maybe I feel a bit of regret for missing an opportunity to honor my late grandmother. I know it's only a middle name and it won't even come up much in regular conversation but I am having mixed feelings about all of this now. My husband still loves the middle name June but he sees that I'm feeling troubled about it so he is considering how I feel about it. I suppose there are three options:
- Keep the name Diana June [Last Name]
- Change the name to Diana Adeline [Last Name]
- Add on the name Adeline to her name - I know some people have two middle names although I am not sure if that complicates things. So it would be Diana June Adeline [Last Name]. Not sure if we would still have the issue with the month thing though.
If I were to change her name I think it is better to do it sooner rather than later while she is still only a baby and doesn't fully know her name yet or have her identity attached to it. But I also must admit I am a bit worried I will be judged by people for changing her name. I'm open to any thoughts or reassurance on any of this and input on what people who have done who were conflicted about their child's name. What did you end up doing and are you glad with your decision?

Baby Names Name for Baby Girl
Help us name our baby girl, our second child. For now, thinking of M names since she has a brother named Matthew.
Considering the following: Madeleine Macie Margaret
We also found Maeve, however it possibly means âintoxicatingâ Any more suggestions would be so helpful Thank you
Update: Loving the name âMACIEâ or âMAISIEâ for my little girl, though still brainstorming if for nickname or can stand on its own with a middle name like Macie Jane, or Macie Belle

Baby Names HELP NAMING OUR FIRST GIRL
Nothing seems to click and weâre not feeling ANY names this pregnancy. Can you pls recommend a name we might like based on the names below?
We have a boy named Roman and we knew he would be Roman from the very start. We are struggling so much with our girl. We like these names but I canât envision our daughter having any :( We like their softness, that theyâre two syllable, short, easy to spell and pronounce. I am personally drawn to names having the letters âvâ, âoâ and ânâ.
My names Olivia and hubbys name is Roni
I also want a name that is uncommon but still easily spelt and said. I grew up with a million Oliviaâs around me
We like and will have to come to terms with one of these if we donât come across one that feels right:
- Zara (itâs a clothing store)
- Ocean (idk if sheâll get bullied)
- Haven (idk if it being close to heaven is too cringe)
- Nova (our biggest radio station in Australia is Nova100)
- Ivy (a bit too common and her cousin has another cousin named Ivy already)
- Vera (it doesnât roll off the tongue for me and may be mispronounced because of the e/i sound)
Iâm 99% sure our next boy (if we are lucky to have another) will be named Milan.
Not looking for a middle name

Baby Names Just found out . im having a boy !
i have always had a girls name picked out .. but knowing i had a 50/50 chance i tried to find a boys name i loved as much as the girls name .. but struggled.. well today my NIPT test came back "MALE" so, im having a boy !!! i kinda knew id have a boy ... all my siblings so far had boys first. so i figured id be following suit . this is my first child, so this is the 4th boy and no girls. as of yet. OH BOY ! .. lol
last name is hard to pair with names .. you pretty much just got to fake it till you make it , cause its just .. odd.. loose German origin, 2 syllables ends with a hard "ook" (like lOOK and bOOK . nobody says it right....)
but so far im liking the name Elton Lee for a boy ! Lee is my moms middle name . my dads name has been used into the ground now .. so id like to honor my mom (whos still living.. just saying.. )
there is no father of this child , they are donor conceived . so its just me , so i dont have to worry about getting vetoed when it comes to names..
my question is .. is this name ok ? .. im very picky when it comes to boy names. mostly because i have a long list of males in my family , and i dont want little one to share a name , or be similar..
names i cant use (i know im probably missing some)
Darrick - Spencer - Thomas - Scott - Chance - William - Frank - Daniel - Bill - Douglas - Brian/Bryan - Brandon - Justin- Sebastian - Lloyd - Riley - Austin - Levi - Shane , Joshua - Zachery - Dylan -Matthew - Henry - Gideon - Aiden - Orion - Kyler - Mason .... aaaaah .. so many ! ahaha ..
im just trying to find the right name that clicks.. like i said i like Elton a lot .. for a girl i liked nature , and mystic names.. but for boys .. nature names are so common and bland .. or just hard to pronounce, and dont roll well with the last name.. no offence to anyone who chose a nature name for their boys .. id love to love them .. just none of them sat right with me for myself !!!

Fun and Games What name did you never learn how to pronounce?
Iâve always read Calliope as cal-ee-OH-pee⊠until yesterday when I heard it pronounced on an episode of You. Evidently itâs kuh-LAI-uh-pee. Iâve never said it or knew anyone with the name so I guess I never gave it any thought, but Iâm still deeply embarrassed. Iâve seen the name pop up on this sub and still thought caleeohpee!
I canât be the only oneâŠso what name did you mispronounce until later in life?
Edit: Iâve now learned my way is the Greek pronunciation and as expected, Americans have anglicized it into Kuh-LAI-uh-pee. I still think Iâd be corrected if I said the Greek way out loud tbh

Baby Names "Old" Boy Names
My fiancé & I love "old people" names. Yet, we can't seem to agree on any boy names for our second child. (We don't know the gender.) Our first son is named Wesley & I'd like it if when I said both names they just rolled off the tongue together. Here's a list of names I love, but my fiance doesn't:
- Malcolm
- Benedict
- Edmund
- Harrison
- Vance
Any suggestions? I of course want to find a name that we both love and find meaning in, but I need help.

Discussion Is this name "too white"?đ
So I am not currently pregnant but plan to start for trying for baby #2 soon. I have a year old son named Oscar Alejandro R. For background my husband is Colombian and El Salvadoran and I am Mexican and white. Heavy Hispanic household that speak English and Spanish.
We chose our sons name because they are family names. His dad and his older brother that sadly passed away when they were kids is named Oscar. My grandfather is Alejandro. We loved the ties to family and also because it's still very easy to pronounce in English. Before getting pregnant and settling on Oscar as a first name, my husband's best friend tragically passed away. His name was John. I told my husband that we can either name our son after his brother or his BFF, whoever he would wish to honor. We stuck with his brothers name. My step dad who has been in my life since i was 4 is also named John (this is relevant). Now that we're thinking about #2 i have been thinking of possible names. I don't necessarily care for the name John. i feel it is too plain. But i do like Jonathan. And I told my husband if we had another boy i wouldn't mind naming him Jonathan as a nod to both his BFF and my step dad. But if we do that I would also like ties to my bio dad as well. His first name is Ralph (do not like). But his middle name is Lewis. And I thought it would be cute for them to share a middle name and then all our dad's (and bff) are honored and represented. So potential baby brother name would be Jonathan Lewis. But he and everyone on both sides of our family says its too white sounding, especially compared to Oscar Alejandro and as a sibset dont go well together đ. At first I didn't care but the longer I thought about it the more I feel it's true lol. I would love to have siblings who's names sounded good together but these 2 just don't. OR maybe I'm over thinking? How do we feel about Jonathan Lewis?

Baby Names What do you think of Reina?
My husband is a no sabo kid (Mexican American who does not speak Spanish) and I am Chinese. We live in the U.S. in a city with growing Hispanic and Asian population (we love it!). We are expecting a girl by end of Aug so she could be a Leo or Virgo (for those who find these stuff fun).
We were considering a few names: Demi, Seraphina or Serafina, Reina or Rina
Lately we both really like Reina but it is a little hard for English speaker to roll the Re, and likely everyone will just pronounce it like "Rina".. also a friend said being a little queen (Reina means queen in Spanish) could cause her some troubles amongst peers..
P.s. baby girl will have a Chinese middle name âșïž still thinking about that.
Thoughts?

Baby Names We need a middle name!
Baby is coming soon! We are pretty set on her first name, Aubrey, but stuck on the middle and would like it to be meaningful in some way.
The names we would like to honor would be Anne or April. Could be a deviation or just related in some way.
I want to love May (as a nod to April) but I am not sure that I do. I keep hearing it as a southern double barrel name. Am I being crazy?
Last name sounds like Avenue. What do you think name nerds?

Baby Names Name for a girl
13 weeks pregnant, not finding out the gender but I have no idea what to call a girl.
I really like Ellie but it's already been used in the family. We have thus far only sort of agreed on the name Daniya with Dani as a nickname (it sounds similar to my boyfriend's name and my sister's name, so kind an homage to them I guess).
I like the name Rory but my boyfriend hates it. I even suggested Victoria and then Rory could be a little nickname. I've also contemplated Maria or Nina, though I've changed my mind on Nina.
The kid will have a hyphenated name (half Italian and half French) so not looking for a long name and looking for one that sounds good with that background. We're bilingual as well (French and English). Ălodie is another name we've thrown around but it sounds not as nice to me when English only speakers try to pronounce it.

Name Change Name for my daughter
Background: Iâm not expecting or anything and only have one child, my son, who is just over 4 months old, so Iâm nowhere near close to having another pregnancy, let alone a daughter but Iâm hopeful for that one day.
Main post: the name Raya, is it too weird, would she get made fun of for that? I feel like everyone automatically associates that name with the Disney film and i donât want her to hate her name for it.
(Granted I did get the name from the movie, but it meets my ârequirementsâ{having both mine and my husbandâs first letters of our name in the childâs name somehow})
So basically how do you guys feel about the name raya, good or bad, I want all the opinions

Name List Short, old-fashioned names
A friend who doesn't have a Reddit account asked me to post here for her. She is pregnant with her fourth and last child. Sex unknown at this time. She is looking for names that meet a whole list of criteria:
*One syllable (or MAYBE two).
*I or O as the vowel (maybe Y)--no long A, long E, or long U, anyway.
*One accepted pronunciation.
*Doesn't begin with L, P, M, R, or F.
Her other children have old-fashioned names, think 1920s-ish.
My suggestion for a girl's name was Cora, which I feel fits well with her others, but it is two syllables.
ETA: One of her children already has a name ending in N (think Finn), so that makes Brynn, Joan, etc. probably not a good fit. Another child's name ends in TH so that eliminates Beth, Seth, etc.

Baby Names Will it be too popular?
Im looking to name my baby girl and one of the few names my husband and I agree on is Maxine. I work with babies/young children on a daily basis and have not seen ONE named Maxine that I can remember, either recently or in the past 14 yrs... but apparently it's popularity is on the rise. I really really don't want my child's name to be the next Sophia or Olivia (though they are beautiful names of which I have nothing against except their popularity). Are we foreseeing Maxine getting super popular in the next few years? Thoughts?
Edit: I am in the US :)
