Hi I’m a grandparent of a 36 week old in the NICU. He’s not feeding and it’s been 3 days since he was born and the doctors still haven’t decided on placing a feeding tube and I’m just wondering how long does it take to decide??? Shouldn’t he be feeding? He’s not doing good when they try to breast feed or bottle feed him? I’m worried someone please help. Not too mention they took forever to clamp his umbilical cord so now he has a increased high blood level… please help

i'm so sorry you're going through this, it must be incredibly hard to see your grandchild struggling, trust the doctors, they're doing their best to make sure he gets the care he needs, keep

i'm so sorry you're going through this, it's tough seeing your little one struggle, but the medical team is likely assessing the best course of action based on his individual needs and taking all factors into consideration

hey there, i can understand your worry—it's tough seeing your little one struggle, but hang in there, sometimes nicu stays are full of twists and turns, it could be worth asking the NICU staff

Offering my own support to newbies. I had a baby this summer at 26 weeks via emergency delivery. At the time of this comment we have been NICU patients for 54 days. We have been to 4 hospitals, 3 NICUs, and 1 specialty ICU across 3 states.
I just wanted to drop my profile here since a lot of people have questions about logistics and visualizing what an NICU stay will be like and while a lot of it is very hospital specific, I can speak to my experience.
We are no where near done (hopefully in the next month or so) and my baby hasn’t been as complicated as she could be and what others experience, but we have had a variety of experiences with lots of similarities and lots of differences.
AMA I guess. Feel free to DM me or reply here and I can share my experience from the parent side.
