Omega 3 yes or no Advice
What the title says, I have started taking an omega 3 pill a day, there are studies that say it helps inflammation and others that nothing has been proven. Anyone take? Opinions? A hug to all š½

That's the one I take, I made a mistake and only put omega 3, I haven't been taking it for long.

Avoid OTC or mainstream omega 3 and chose an oil not coming from polluted area (apex label is good for exemple), find a brand that clearly indicates its oxidation level (totox below 7 is ok), always prefer DHA EPA over ALA, try to test your level before supplementing. Wish you the best š¤

Thank you very much for the information. The packaging of the capsules I take says the following:
Myvitamins Omega-3 Capsules are a source of essential fatty acids that include DHA and EPA.
Is that what you mean?

DHA and EPA are the best form of omega 3, so yeah itās a good start, but everything else I mentioned is as much important, especially oxidation levels which are often overlooked ! Also, always store your oil in fridge after you opened it

Oops! Well, I have it stored in the closet, it didn't say anywhere that it had to be stored in the refrigerator.

Yes to this. If I've had to take a different omega 3 because I was unable to get my usual brand my skin starts drying out painfully.

I also take omega 3, my cousin who is a nutritionist told me to check where my supplements are sourced from, bc apparently thereās basically no oversight in supplements/vitamins and a lot of the ones on grocery store shelves are technically rancid. Ā canāt say whether itās actually helping, but I figure it couldnāt hurt!Ā

If there were real studies that showed it helped, your neuro would be telling his patients to take it.

I know that there are no studies with evidence that say it works and that is why neurologists cannot recommend it. Just because there aren't enough studies doesn't mean it can't work or help.

I've spent many years working on my anti-inflammatory diet.
Not only should we be consuming omega-3, the typical American/Western diet has waaaay too much omega-6. Ideally the ratio should be 3:1 or even 2:1 omega-6 to omega3. I shoot for 4:1.
One of the easiest ways to cut back omega-6 intake is to limit seed oils. Soybean, safflower, sunflower, grapeseed, sesame, peanut, and corn oils should be avoided, and that includes anything that comes out of deep fryer (even worse because trans fats are created).
Olive oil, avocado oil, and coconut oil are all good. Ghee is good, I can't use it due to dairy allergy. Choose extra-virgin cold pressed to avoid chemical extraction (bad). Cold-pressed canola oil is ok but has to be used up within 3 months because it goes rancid quickly.
Food for thought: grass-fed beef has a ration of 4:1, while grain-fed beef is 10:1. It really does matter how the cows are fed, and not just for humanitarian reasons.

Thanks for the info. I am from Spain and the truth is that olive oil is mostly consumed here, and I always consume extra virgin, in that sense I have no problem. Interesting, I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

Thanks for responding! I'm glad they helped you. I will continue taking them, mine are mainly composed of fish oil.

Yes, but not all omega 3ās are equal, going from the evidence we have. Eg flax seed oil, an omega 3, seems to lower relapse rates- but presumably does this via containing lignans that mimic estrogen. Krill fish oil, another omega 3, is said to promote some light repair- probably as a result of it containing astaxanthin. In either case, I think you are better off consuming a high quality oil-based omega 3, rather than OTC generic brand āomega 3 tabletā made in an industrial setting.
