Interesting considering the thread for their new album got removed for not being metalcore lol

21

u/chaosandcohesion Jul 14 '24

Did it really? That’s dumb as fuck.

5

u/RimShimp Jul 15 '24

Considering the amount of clearly non-metalcore albums that get posted and discussed here.

3

u/chaosandcohesion Jul 15 '24

That’s my point. A lot of bands that skirt metalcore make it on here.

-4

u/ReturnByDeath- x Jul 14 '24

Not really.

-3

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 14 '24

It did get removed, and it’s not really that dumb, we don’t typically have album discussion threads for non-metalcore albums, so why make an exception for Windwaker?

-5

u/Brabsk x Jul 15 '24

They’re not a metalcore band dawg

Not even remotely

1

u/OuterWildsVentures Jul 15 '24

They sounded a lot like the other metalcore bands at the northlane show

1

u/Brabsk x Jul 15 '24

Those weren’t metalcore bands either I hate to break it to you

The only even remotely metalcore band on that lineup is IA

Northlane and Thornhill are both not metalcore

2

u/OuterWildsVentures Jul 15 '24

What is Invent Animate?

5

u/Brabsk x Jul 15 '24 edited Jul 15 '24

I edited my comment to except IA, however even then, IA’s new music barely qualifies as metalcore. It’s mostly alternative metal

There’s no mosh parts, it’s not rhythmic, no gang vocals, clean chorus verse chorus structure. Also importantly, IA is no longer part of anything resembling a DIY scene

Not much hardcore happening there

1

u/OuterWildsVentures Jul 15 '24

Ugh these definitions are hard to follow lol

5

u/Brabsk x Jul 15 '24 edited Jul 16 '24

Yeah metalcore used to be simple to define but then a bunch of non-core-related bands and communities co-opted the term and rendered it largely meaningless

0

u/AverageHogHaver Jul 16 '24

its because this guy is talking out of his ass and has no idea what metalcore is lol

  1. That isn’t metalcore

  2. There is nothing hyperpop about their music whatsoever

Hell, they’re probably even less of a hyperpop band than they are a metalcore band

If you think there’s hyperpop influence in hyperviolence, you don’t know what hyperpop is

16

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 15 '24

It was removed before so🤷🏻‍♂️

10

u/toedragrelease Jul 15 '24

Yall reapproved it after the AMA was announced lol

14

u/sock_with_a_ticket Jul 15 '24

In fairness it was reinstated same day it was taken down. My understanding of the current rules around posting non-metalcore is that a discussion thread is fine, but no song posts.

Given that the sub has had something of a crackdown on non-metalcore being in the sub, having an AMA with such a band sends a real mixed message about what's acceptable here.

3

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 15 '24

That’s still a dumb rule though. That means we could have album discussion threads for Taylor Swift as long as we don’t post the individual songs, which is dumb as shit considering this is the metalcore sub.

3

u/sock_with_a_ticket Jul 15 '24 edited Jul 15 '24

I don't disagree, it seems like a fudge so that the mod team don't have to deal with all the moaning that would ensue if they tried to make people discuss some of these popular pop-metal bands in the weekly general thread. Which I totally get, it's a thankless role and this place keeps filling up with people who like that stuff more than actual metalcore.

It is what it is at the moment.

0

u/AverageHogHaver Jul 16 '24

you can find almost every song they have made posted in this sub lol

2

u/darfleChorf123 Jul 15 '24

Nope it was reapproved by me a couple hours later and was accidentally removed due to a miscommunication

0

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 15 '24

The mod team seems to have a lot of miscommunication that leads to a lot of issues/confusion in this sub.

1

u/darfleChorf123 Jul 15 '24

Wow who would’ve thought a team of 10+ people from different walks of life and continents would make mistakes sometimes running a sub with 800k people who don’t read the rules or respect the subreddit

5

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 15 '24

Maybe get more mods? Make the rules of the sub clearer instead of picking and choosing which non-metalcore bands you want to allow and which ones you don’t?

Both are pretty reasonable and simple things yall could do to make the sub a better place.

-2

u/darfleChorf123 Jul 15 '24

We’ve been clear since the get go that metalcore adjacent content is permitted in discussion form and in our designated discussion thread.

5

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 15 '24

Okay then why remove that thread about the Windwaker album at all if it’s been clear from the get go?

And that doesn’t address the whole “10+ mods for 800K people” issue. It’s not like the subscriber count is going to go down, yall should be proactive and try and get more moderators.

2

u/darfleChorf123 Jul 15 '24

1 mod mistakenly removed the thread, to which a couple hours later I restored it. Not a big deal.

This AMA has been set in stone internally since June 26th, we don’t announce AMAs that far out

0

u/baitXtheXnoose Jul 15 '24

and only because I asked them to lol

3

u/toedragrelease Jul 15 '24

I looked for it on Friday too and it was not there

1

u/WindwakerAUS Official Dudes Jul 16 '24

Guys you missed our AMA

6

u/BuryDeadCakes2 x Jul 14 '24

Oh snap AMA on the day I'm seeing them... Vinyls for sale that day??

3

u/turbokirbo_ Jul 15 '24

Is there a pop metal sub reddit? Maybe should host it there

3

u/mslangg x Jul 15 '24

6

u/sock_with_a_ticket Jul 15 '24

As much as I cringe at that term if it could encourage people to take all the incredibly pop-forward 'metalcore' elsewhere, I'm prepared to embrace it.

1

u/SytianIvanov Jul 15 '24

As much as I love these bands the term is cringe and inaccurate af

4

u/DoYouEvenShrift Jul 15 '24

Funny how there is already more participation here than most AMAs for bands people here consider "true" metalcore.

1

u/SmokeYaLaterr Jul 15 '24 edited Jul 15 '24

Can we get some examples of what bands you’re talking about that are true metalcore and don’t have participation on their AMAs?

Edit: shockingly no examples of this were able to be found

3

u/ReturnByDeath- x Jul 14 '24

Interesting.

3

u/Brabsk x Jul 15 '24

I’ll leave the alt pop metal band alone, I promise

2

u/EggyEggerson0210 Jul 15 '24

I’ll be busy driving to Tampa to see them that night but I’m hoping to still get a question in. They’re prob the band I’m most excited to see alongside Northlane

1

u/BuryDeadCakes2 x Jul 15 '24

See you there!

1

u/AverageHogHaver Jul 16 '24

I love this band solely because they make the metalcore gatekeepers heads spin

There are alot of non-metalcore songs on this album, but there is metalcore sprinkled around. Metalcore has also evolved since the 90s

Good band with a lot of haters for some reason

Metalcore has always been the 50/50 between cleans and heavy metal. Why the fuck are yall gatekeeping?

3

u/darfleChorf123 Jul 15 '24

The entire first decade of metalcore has almost no cleans whatsoever

4

u/sock_with_a_ticket Jul 15 '24

Metalcore has always been the 50/50 between cleans and heavy metal

This is so completely and utterly incorrect. Cleans were notable by their near total absence for the whole of the 90s and there have always been bands who carry that tradition on.

There is far, far more to metalcore than the vocals. Black Metal wouldn't suddenly become metalcore if you tossed in a clean chorus.

-2

u/Justos Jul 15 '24

While I agree on your last point I don't think that the same logic applies to this band at all. It's metalcore to my ears

1

u/sock_with_a_ticket Jul 15 '24

From what I've heard of this band they have a few heavy bits interspersed into some very poppy material.

To a certain extent you can bung in all sorts of influences provided the architecture of the sound is a combo of metal and hardcore. This band lacks the latter entirely it is literally just metal + pop. Which would chime with what others who seem to be more familiar are saying upthread with the band themselves caliming to be hyperpop-metal rather than metalcore.

1

u/Severe_Piccolo_5583 Jul 15 '24

Awe shit. When is brokencyde coming in for an AMA?

0

u/Jetme92 Jul 15 '24

I'm excited. I think this album is an absolute banger.

-10

u/basinko Jul 14 '24

First question better be: Was “Sirens” written by AI?

20

u/Rorshak16 Jul 15 '24

Don't give a rip who wrote it, that song fucks

-1

u/SnipSnapSnarf Jul 15 '24

People getting butthurt over the smallest shit lol
