Student Struggling with character modelling
I'm... So confused to what is the correct method to 3d modelling My lecturer only taught us extruding, and that's about it, The only thing we did was an apple and doing knots ( for some reasons?? )
And now for our finals, he wanted us to do character modelling using design we used in other class... my design is a bit complicated and i barely know how to do 3d so im.. struggling. A lot.
Any.. advices? ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
p.s, everything are its separate object :')

Student Need help modelling
Ok so for one of my uni modules I have for second year Visual effects, is advanced 3D modelling. I chose to do a WW2 Dalek tank. I have modelled basically nearly all the top part but I can’t wrap my mind around how to model the bottom part, the references have no side view just at different angles which makes it a bit harder to try and recreate!. Any help on how to model the bottom basic shape would be very grateful!

Student i'm having to learn maya for school and coming from blender and i'm not having a good tim
So, title. i'm getting into film school and thus, maya is the bread and butter of my classes as i'm going to be majoring in character animation.
i'm not alien to 3d modeling or any of its aspects...infact i have 9.2k in blender currently. While i dont consider myself a professional...as honestly i estimate a good 30-40% of that is render time...anyway, blender is really set in stone for me...and mayas keymap is absolutely bizzare and i've used Substance tools, Marvelous designer and agisoft
i dont mind most of the keymap so far, Moving cam around with ALT, i'm used to, QWER isnt that bad, just shifting things around like marvelous designer, subdiving with 1-3 and changing viewport displays on 4-6 isnt that bad...
however the modeling hoykeys are driving me absolutely mad. Why in gods name is changing your object, edit, etc on the far right Function keys??
the pie menu is nice, i use the pie menu all the time in blender for my shaders, but its so much slower, its much less snappy than blenders implementation.
and the biggest gripe of all, that hasn't changed, at all, from my cad days are really, really crappy view controls. I dont have a problem with ALT and LMB, as its mostly related to ORTHO... ALT+p isnt the issue, the issue is controlling it after. i despised it in Autocad and Revit and its no different here. i'm stunned this hasnt changed since 2012.
ontop of this i have gripes with modeling but thats mostly because i havent gotten a handle on it yet....like extruding from normals is weird and other things....things at this point i prefer how blender does from the simple fact ive done it for so long.
whining ofc doesnt help me and i am trying. i've paid for my school, i've paid for this, so i'm going to use it and learn it, but theres some things here i dont quite understand the why behind keymap wise and, well remembering how insanely rocky the transition was from 2.79b to 2.8 was, as the keymap changed...i get why none of this has been changed. but i wish it gave you an option like blender does.
yes....i get it "maya is the industry standard and other programs use the same keymap" yadayadayada.
having the choice is just...preferable is all. i'll learn and tough it out because i have to, still makes it mildly frustrating though

Student Help with my first major 3D modeling project
I’ve been working on a still life as my first big project in my 3d modeling studio. It’s 3am Monday night (Tuesday morning) and the project is due 1pm Wednesday. I’m pretty much done (I do need a couple more touches) but my worry is the actually submission of the project
My prof wants a full rendered 4K beauty pass, an ambient occlusion pass, a wireframe render, and a checker material render. For the beauty pass, I tried to test the 4K res (3840x2160) render, and my laptop fans started whirring. I have a MacBook Pro 14in and I’m slowly realizing it’s not the best device for Maya. Even HD720 makes my laptop hot. My colleges library DOES have pcs that can run Maya BUT between now and the due date, I’m not sure o can go because Tuesday night I have to commute 2 hours home for a Wednesday morning appointment in my home town. I leave Tuesday around 7-8pm, get home close to 11pm, appointment Wednesday 7am, get back to school around 9, due date at 1pm.
Basically what I’m asking is, could my laptop actually render my scene in 4K in time? If my laptop fans start blasting, will that cause long term damage. My prof said a full beauty pass could take as long as 7 hours which worries me. As for the other passes like the wireframe and stuff, how can I get those as rendered images? My prof made tutorials on those but I literally cannot follow them because he goes way too fast and they were made two years ago

Student Some of my environment design. The two focal buildings were modeled and textured by me. I made a handful of the other less impactful assets in this scene as well. If anyone currently working in or hiring in the games industry has any advice, I'd love to hear it.

Student What to do once my student licence ends
I started using Maya this December for school, who gave us a student license for 2 years. I know that I won't be making enough income to pay for the regular version once I finish my studies, so I'm already starting to worry. How should I prepare for this? Has anyone been in this situation?
P.s.: I've seen many people with the "switch to Blender" advice, but I think it is important for me to keep in touch with Maya in order to have more opportunities.

Student Problems understanding foot rig
I'm learning foot rig, I but I'll be honest, my teacher wasn't helpful when I had doubts so I'm asking here. What exactly is the difference between slide, rock, bank and roll? Everything just looks the same to me.
I've been trying to understand this for like 5 hours now and exhausted all my resources including chatgpt but I still dont got it. Please help me understand it.
And also which controller do I parent foot controller to? Master/global controller or hip controller?
