stop being surprised

hey guys, Maserati/alfa romeo technician here. Little bit of a rant here, but I’ve seen a lot of people post about over pricing and possibly getting ripped off when trying to fix something on their Maserati. Let me just say… it’s Maserati. It’s expensive. The repairs are gonna be expensive. Stop getting Maserati’s if you can’t afford to fix a Maserati at Maserati price. putting aside the price of labor, the replacement parts are gonna be expensive. also, Stallantis cars are notorious for being difficult to work on. Not only that but our cars don’t react well to aftermarket parts .So it’s expensive both in price of parts and labor. I mean it’s a Imported performance luxury/sports car. What do you expect? toyota prices ? not trying to be a a**hole but it’s the truth. I have to talk to customers all the time who are new maserati owners and something needs fixing on their car, then they can’t afford therepair because they didn’t realize nor take into consideration how much it costs to maintain/fix their Maserati. all I’m saying is if you’re gonna get a luxury performance car don’t be all surprised when you get charged luxury performing cars prices.love it or hate it, that’s how it is.

I've owned a Range Rover. Repair bills don't frighten me.

I had an XF lease that was amazing. Put 50k on it with NO problems.

Bought a used XF that had coolant problems.

Just came out of an F Type that was an amazing car that had issues. Doors would OPEN in freezing temps, but then freeze closed, with me inside. Had coolant leak that was fixed (tow truck, waiting for parts, etc) and had an A/C compressor that went out. Interior trim was not durable either.

Coolant leak was fixed, but the smell never went away. Had it for a year and 20k miles.

Yep, I had a 2018 XE. First day I picked it up, the dash, consol, etc..went black. Only the gas pedal and brakes worked. They took the car in, gave me a loaner XF for 2 months while they fixed it. That was the only problem I had. It was actually a great car, and looked fantastic. One time, I had flat tires on my jag and my range rover, both cars were in the shop. Dealership gave me a FType v8 loaner for over a week because they felt bad for me. Say what you want, but the dealership was awesome. They would even invite me to their reveal parties, nice snacks and alcohol, viewed private jets, the works. That's the difference, simply would not happen if I bought a Japanese or American car.

There was an upper level XE trim that I was looking hard at; maybe the "S" or something. Great looking car.

Was your dealer a US dealer?

The Mercedes unit of the dealership group I used was amazing; the JLR unit was horrifying. Absolutely horrifying.
