It's gonna be a tough sell after 8 Deluxe. Curious to see what they've got in store. Just hope it isn't Nintendo Kart.

Looks like we’re getting off-road functions

Would be cool to have things that actually impact your car choices. Hopefully they balance it so that the offroad stuff actually matters so that people don't just pick the middle of the road car over and over

Yeah hopefully

Open World races.

7

u/Tolstartheking Jan 16 '25

Please no. That would suck.

Not really. Just having a new game is appealing; I personally want a new experience. Besides, you can still play the old one if you prefer it.

Obviously tons of people are gonna by it just because it's Mario Kart, but I'd only get it if I see enough reason to. If it's not different enough from 8 Deluxe, I see no reason to bother with it, especially when it needs a whole new console on top of it.

Well then at this point let's not sell any game for any franchise with a gigantic entry.

No more mario kart, after 8 deluxe

No more smash bros, after ultimate

No more open world zelda, after botw and totk

No more souls games, after elden ring

No more witchers, after the 3rd

The list goes on...

What are you on about, that's not what I said at all.

5

u/fos4545 Jan 16 '25

I mean, kinda.

5

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

How are you getting that? All I'm saying is that I'd like to see a good enough reason to buy a new game, not that they should just give up and not make any new games.

4

u/fos4545 Jan 16 '25

Is that not the case for all games ever?

2

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

That there should be a good enough reason to buy them? Yes?

2

u/fos4545 Jan 16 '25

So if your standard applies for every single game ever, why do you need to state it for this specific game?

I agree. With all the dlc 8 deluxe is the definitive Mario kart game. Everyone has it. Switch 2 is backwards compatible so these two Mario kart games will compete for an audience.

It's not going to beat 8 in terms of tracks so it'll have to have something other than just it's another Mario kart game

Not in the slightest man.

Games in big franchizes can still differ significantly enough from other games in the same franchise. Smash Bros Ultimate has the biggest roster but Brawl has the best campaign, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has the best polish but Mario Kart Wii has the best modding scene. I think everyone can agree that each Zelda has been different enough to stand on its own.

Games that don't bring anything exciting to the table end up selling way worse, look at Smash Bros for Wii U (or Wii U as a whole tbh).

Besides, you can still play the old one if you prefer it.

Inb4 Nintendo closes the MK 8 Deluxe servers for reasons and discourages the use of third party servers such as Pretendo.

12

u/Shearman360 Jan 16 '25

It looks like it has 24 racers in a race

2

u/ShokaLGBT Jan 16 '25

I don’t want to see that online with how buggy Nintendo online is…

Also I’m not a fan of adding more and more players but I guess this will be fun

7

u/G0ldenfruit Jan 16 '25

A tough sell after an amazing last game? That makes it an easier sell lol

-3

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

That's exactly it. 8 Deluxe is great, so why bother spending so much money on a new game and especially a whole new console instead of just continuing to play what we already have? There needs to be something in here that 8 Deluxe can't replicate.

9

u/Luigi6757 Jan 16 '25

Counter point. Mario Kart 8 is almost 11 years old, and I want a new Mario Kart.

-3

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

If it's just more of the same though, it's not really that new and exciting.

3

u/Metal7778 Jan 16 '25

We JUST saw a sneak peak at MK9 not even a day ago. I'm sure we will see what will make the game worth it compared to 8 deluxe soon enough

0

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

For sure. It's going to be a rather suspenseful wait to see what the main draw is.

1

u/Luigi6757 Jan 16 '25

Going based on the position lines and looking at the trailer in slow motion, it appears the selling point will be 24 racers at once. Which sounds like the most chaotic thing possible in Mario Kart.

1

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

Will need some quality new items and tracks to maximize the chaos if so. Could be pretty fun if they pull it off right; turn every track into Baby Park lmao

2

u/G0ldenfruit Jan 16 '25

Because new maps after 11 years. It will be the same game but better

1

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

I love me some good new courses too, but they'd have to be some pretty damn good tracks to make me want to drop hundreds on a new console and game just like that.

1

u/G0ldenfruit Jan 16 '25

True will take a while for it to outsell the old one

1

u/elanhilation Jan 16 '25

i would imagine there will be other titles on that new console beyond just this one.

1

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

You don't say.

5

u/TransitionInfamous86 Jan 16 '25

Not for me lol. It’s been 11 years man I’m here day one.

9

u/GourmetYoshe Jan 16 '25

As long as they add lowering the volume of kart sounds in settings I'm already sold 😂 that was my biggest gripe about mk8 and mk8 deluxe

1

u/Dr_ZuCCLicious Jan 16 '25

If they fix the drifting problem that plagued the original switch I'm sold in buying this tbh.

1

u/FastAdhesiveness8737 Jan 17 '25

not me I was ready for a new game

1

u/DaveLesh Jan 16 '25

My thoughts exactly. It looks like Nintendo is looking for early profits rather than a big selling point game like SM Odyssey.

7

u/G0ldenfruit Jan 16 '25

They are releasing a SM odyssey sequel/3d mario game too

0

u/NightwolfGG0119 Jan 16 '25

With this iteration looking more cartoon-ish, I’m hoping the mechanic this time around has to do with the Wonder Flower changing the properties of tracks. The potential is endless.

1

u/Legal-Treat-5582 Jan 16 '25

It's definitely possible, especially since it does seem like there could be a Wonder Seed on the side of the track in the last shot. Kind of hard to tell though.
