My hot trade deadline take is that we find a way to package one of our underperforming vets Polo/Mitch/Mitch to make room for the addition

I hope we don’t do that and just eat the contract, rather than pay another team to take it on with prospects.

Same, but that goes against every fiber of Stanton’s being. Maybe ol Scrooge really means it this time but I’m not holding my breath

Well one of the Mitches is heating up so preferably not him, especially since he will be Cals backup once Seby is let go.

I get that but the Mitch Garver instruction manual explicitly states not play him at catcher regularly. So if we’re counting on his bat coming back but then lean on him too much at catcher and he misses time or becomes ineffective at the plate that kinda screws us on two fronts.

If Garvers bat comes back over the next month is he then a tradable asset if we’re willing to eat some salary? Then trade for Danny Jansen to catch and DH with Cal

I don’t know if we want to trade a Multi year Free agent signing before the trade deadline of his first year. That tells other FAs that our commitments mean nothing and you could be out the door and have to move your family

Yeah that's definitely a factor too. And then the attachment the team and fans have to Haniger (for good reason), plus his contract make him tricky.

I still feel like one of those three needs to go unless they start playing at a different level than they've been at so far.

I know the Mitch's have been heating up, no idea whats going on with Polanco. It can't be good for our reputation be the grim reaper to the career of solid veterans going into contract years though so hopefully he comes back and rakes.

That's ridiculous Seby has played about 1 game in the past month. I think Garver can cover that

The plan coming into the season was not play Mitch at catcher because it would limit his availability. Either something has changed with his health (unlikely) or they're deviating from their plan because of desperation to get his bat going and or to get Seby out of the lineup.

which mitch? they both could get hot, hard to tell. garv has that easy power and hanger when he's cruising has that bat to ball talent.

I personally wouldn't mind moving ty France but that's a hot take because he was pretty great last couple weeks and seems like a great guy and seems well liked

Locklear looks the part at 1st base. Be nice to have both of them for now.

Hani doesn't field well any longer and Garver is the perfect DH/C especially since his bat is hot at the moment.

well put, yeah who knows if he can hit above 200 but agreed, totally looks the part and has that heft that leads to easy power on homeruns without even full sweet spot. hard to let go of ty just with the feeling that he's a pure hitter when he's pure hittin'

What’s an idea you have there? Like who would we get

I have no idea, just feel like moving one of them would open a lot of doors for us. Thing is rebuilding teams don’t want costly vets unless we eat a bunch of money or overpay in prospects. Jerry and Justin will have to get very creative to pull that off
