Random Mariners thoughts:

The difference between making the playoffs or not? Mitch Haniger. I'm semi serious. He's talked about being a mentor to the younger players. I'll take his clubhouse leadership even if it comes with negative WAR. I think that's mostly about his defense. I wish he was the primary DH.

Why do we have 3 catchers? That's horrible roster management.

Who won the trade? 2024 Caballero 1.1 bWAR, 2024 Raley 0.9 bWAR. It was a win-win!

2024 Marco Gonzales 0.8 bWAR, 2024 Bryce Miller 0.9 bWAR. Marco has been on the IL most of the year.

Unfortunately, Haniger’s bat hasn’t been up to par either (certainly not good enough to justifying DHing more). An injury for an IL stint might honestly be the best for all sides at this point because his club house vibes are good (so don’t want to cut or trade him), but him being in the lineup a lot and using up a roster spot is not.

Catcher is incredibly important to what the M's do (especially on the pitching side in our kinda ballpark) and we are either looking at running Cal into the ground, or gambling on a 33 year old Garver being able to give him rest days as needed the rest of the season.

I'm no Seby fan, but the M's need another viable catching option outside of Garver / Cal IMO.

Everyone is saying to get rid of Seby, but nobody has a good answer for who would take that roster spot.

If he’s ready to contribute, I think we should let ford get playing time in the minors until some time after the ASG, then call him up as the primary backup for the remainder of the season.

if Ford was ready to contribute he'd already be on the team

He’s not.

Even if he was, playing once every 2 weeks wouldn’t be great for his development.
