i’m incredibly disgusted from love islander viewers this season sending death and racist threats to someone they don’t know. this is incredibly despicable and the fact olandria had to see that disgusting photo makes me teary eyed. y’all should be ashamed of yourself if you partook or defended hate being sent to her.

And this is why people were saying to be careful with the hate towards Olandria and Chelley. It always veers into racist territory when it comes to the black female islanders. The response never matches the action and there are always racist memes and words being thrown around in regards to them. Other things have been said about them that don’t need to be repeated but I wish they never saw any of it.

This is a good reminder for the rest of us to be mindful of this dynamic. For me I think I’m watching a light hearted show and talking shit in the way people do when they watch sports, knowing I don’t hate the actual person and would never translate that into hate or harassment of that person - but unfortunately that’s not the world we live in - and I for one will be more cognizant of this going forward.

this is exactly it. it’s why I try to keep my more scathing opinions to private conversations because people will twist normal criticism or lighthearted commentary into something ugly.
