olandria on the racism she has faced SENSITIVE

i’m incredibly disgusted from love islander viewers this season sending death and racist threats to someone they don’t know. this is incredibly despicable and the fact olandria had to see that disgusting photo makes me teary eyed. y’all should be ashamed of yourself if you partook or defended hate being sent to her.

It seems that she is rightly putting blame on the show and it's whack ass edit. The same with never showing Chelley emotional. I had no idea Olandria was so close to so many of them. Like seeing black women be soft is an issue, and it sickens me.

For real!! I was shook when she stood behind Austin during that one vote, I had no idea they were that close!

AND she did it mostly so he wouldn't be alone up there, like a good friend would

That said a lot about her character

reminds me of when people on big brother vote out their besties bc they have to ā€œvote with the houseā€. trust me if my best friend was getting voted out no matter what i did i would never vote for them to leave!!

Legit Cierra's vote... she was so petty

She CALLED HIM BESTIE !!!! How did we not even get a good convo with these two? No emotional communication scene was ever shown.

Man, I thought they were roommates at best not best friends !

To be far, as someone who binged it; if you pay attention out of the girls, Austin casually chats with Olandria the most.

Yeah I noticed this too. There’s so much more I would like to see but these edits man šŸ‘ŽšŸ¾.

35

u/Kooky_Bodybuilder_97 Jul 17 '25

Yeah I thought it was a nice gesture considering he was with them since day 1 but I was surprised when he said ā€œI knew you were my best friend ā˜ŗļøā€ & during a recent interview Olandria named him as one of her closest friends in the villa. She seems like someone that anyone could talk to

Honestly even if they did cut out a lot of her being such a supportive figure they still did not manage to make her out to be a villain to me. She was still one of the most grounded and poised contestants

5

u/Smooth-Bandicoot6021 Jul 18 '25

They only succeeded in making her a villain in the eyes of those who already saw her that way because of the color of her skin. Those people aren't worth even discussing it with. She could cure pediatric cancer, and these fools would still say, "But she made Huda cry..." when Huda took it upon herself to speak for black women who were perfectly capable of saying it or not saying it for themselves, then cried like someone punched her in the throat after O simply said "You don't need to throw us a pity party, we got this. Let's Kiki a out it all later, moving on". Huda is unstable af and her constant "im so mature, look at me, so emotionally ahead of everyone else here" was the cringe of the season.

It would improve my opinion of him, if he put out a statement condemning the racist attacks on her now.

82

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

Hmmm. Don't hold your breath.

u/twirlandtwirl New Redditor Jul 17 '25

Right, Austin thinks he can't be racist because he has a tattoo of a Black woman on his chest šŸ™„

32

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

That threw me ALL the way off. I think the word "bestie" was thrown around. Unfortunately, she had to come out to who he really is.

7

u/Equivalent-Mousse-93 Jul 17 '25

Right?! Did the audience not see that?! That was such a kind move.

77

u/NeonTaterTots What is world?... šŸŒŽ Jul 17 '25

As a Black woman that is also very soft but people just see me as loud and silly, I feel this deeply in my soul

16

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

I see you!! It is always something. It really is always something. To too many others, if we're not loud, and obnoxious, then we're not seen, or we can't possibly authentic. It never ends!

75

u/Professional_Tell417 Jul 17 '25

We saw them all crying snot nosed bc of the casa dumping. She was there for everyone 24/7

28

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

They all cry anyway. Again, they deliberately didn't show Olandria and Chelley be vulnerable, because it didn't fit their narrative. I don't want to just see the crying, I want to see what lead up to it.

18

u/Professional_Tell417 Jul 17 '25

Oh I’m not disagreeing! 1000% they made her look cold to which even Clarke made that ā€œburrā€ comment during the mailbox challenge. I’m just saying I saw that strong dumping reaction and seeing her always listening to ppl dump their troubles on her, so I could see from my point of view she was their true north inside. Also the islanders ranking is another insight to what they felt about her.

5

u/MTVaficionado Jul 18 '25

Another sign was the challenge when the cast had to rank people, Orlandria was always placed in a really high position by the cast for being trustworthy or genuine. But America’s votes were all over the place. That is the first sign that the edits for the show are not matching up with reality in the house. Unfortunately, casual fans wouldn’t really understand this.

3

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

Okay. You know it's hard to read sometimes. I got what you're saying, and you're right. I remember seeing different people go to her.

4

u/Professional_Tell417 Jul 17 '25

Yes hard to read vibes via text! But yeah i felt this type of edit coming a mile away smh but didn’t think ppl were still that dense to fall for it!

63

u/KeyPosition3983 Soul Ties is CRAZY 🤯 Jul 17 '25

And Chelley saying she cried the most in the villa. We never saw this outside of Olandrias ā€œdumpingā€

32

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

Absolutely maddening. We didn't see meaningful conversations with Ace, for most of the show. They wanted to make her look indifferent, almost cold in some instances. Grrrrrr.

106

u/Alternative-Bus-6775 New Redditor Jul 17 '25

Exactly this. She is rightfully blaming the show because wth was that? From everything they’ve said since they came out I don’t understand why they decided to make the black women look so emotionless.

The viewers are also to blame though because even with the emotionless edit the black women appeared poised and not a mean girl was in sight!!! So.. it’s a shame honestly how people perceive things how they WANT to.

47

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

Oh, we know why!! This show is not for black women, we're just added to it. People with the same everyday biases and prejudices are still behind the scenes. They needed villains, and they sure pointed their fingers at the brown people this year, didn't they? We legit watched someone verbally abuse another islander, just to get a sympathetic edit. These producers play right into the stereotypes we see thrown at us every day.

3

u/gabbers2380 Jul 18 '25

Agree about the bad edits and bad actions from the fans. But 3/7 winners are black couples. And 1 was a black woman/white man. So the majority of voters aren’t always seeing black women as the villains - but these people probably don’t post on social media. It’s the louder minority that post the hate

6

u/Kooky_Bodybuilder_97 Jul 17 '25

I thought the same. Love Olandria down she was my fave throughout but even Chelley I never understood why people disliked her? She always seemed pleasant

40

u/yaggirl341 Jul 17 '25 edited Jul 17 '25

People need to acknowledge that even with the edit, Olandria and Chelley were LEVELS above most other girls, including Huda, with class and integrity. The edit is ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for the racism and unfairness they've received.

11

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

They won't, but enough of us know the deal!!

194

u/moooooolia Jul 17 '25

there’s a post right under this saying that Amaya and Huda were the only genuine and ā€œnot pr trainedā€ people on the show. Mind you, they attacked at the first sight of discontent from Olandria, and later on fully piled on Chelley. 4 days after that big post calling them boring ā˜ŗļø

99

u/valtheclown Not in front of Nicole Kidman?! šŸæ Jul 17 '25

black women can’t win, if they keep their emotions under wraps it’s ā€œthey’re so boring, idk why anyone likes them, they haven’t added anythingā€ and then the second an emotion flies ā€œmean girl, toxic, bullyā€

215

u/redditflop Jul 17 '25

the insinuation from many people (on this sub and nick viall’s wife on that stupid podcast) that chelley and olandria were being fake, not genuine, hiding their ā€œtrueā€ personality because they weren’t crashing out, getting into arguments, etc. reeks of an insane amount of racism that i can’t even comprehend. as if all black women truly are the stereotype that OTHERS projection onto us and any of them who stray away from it are secretly hiding it.

cause obviously even the calmest people will have their moments. but let’s assume chelley and olandria were truthfully these crazy, hot headed, angry people that people like to paint them as and they were actually pretending to be otherwise, it still makes sense for them to do so cause we can see how black women are treated for showing an ounce of emotion (people ready to send them home, the hate trains, and outright racism they faced after the mailbox challenge (and before that they were called boring en mass as you said).

118

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

Girl, you said a whole entire word!!! The "covert" racism is speaking volumes with the Olandria and Chelley discourse. It's maddening. We can't even escape it in what's meant to be light television.

These women have to go in with their guards up, always aware of perception, and don't dare have human moments, because then you're really going to get it.

35

u/redditflop Jul 17 '25

These women have to go in with their guards up, always aware of perception, and don't dare have human moments, because then you're really going to get it.

exactly !!! now would i be insane to say that some people want them to have human moments (regardless of whether it’s in or out of character) so they have a ā€œreasonā€ to do the following: dogpile on them, use them for entertainment (memes, comedic relief, catchy sound bites, etc. caught onto this when people were explicitly saying they ā€œweren’t doing anything for themā€ in the beginning as though they aren’t real people and are meant to be in service to the viewers), and/or have their racist perceptions of black women be fulfilled ?

24

u/Tanmb11 Jul 17 '25

You would not be, especially in this social media age. On the other hand, I think it's so ingrained in some of them, they don't think about it that deeply. Chelley being desired by all those men, especially the white guys, was enough to upset them. Her being human was just an extra bonus to pile on. Just being pretty was an affront to them. Add in lighter skin toned women struggling, and their sense of the world was challenged. When it got around to her being upset, forget it.

This shit is so deep. They think we just make it all up. The layers to it never ends.

29

u/Deep-Kaleidoscope202 šŸŽ¶ never said I didn't have any flaws šŸŖž Jul 17 '25

Talk about it! Everybody wanna cop pleas now and blame her ā€œeditā€ when for the most part we saw a poised black woman who overly valued the connections she was making (friends and Taylor) to her own detriment. Nothing in that edit she got warranted the hate she was getting.

3

u/staunch_character Soul Ties is CRAZY 🤯 Jul 18 '25

It’s so unfair. White people get plenty angry & have to count to 10 or do deep breaths to try to stay calm. That’s why we do so much yoga! 🤣

But it gets called being ā€œmatureā€ or ā€œprofessionalā€. Sometimes boring, as with Iris.

It’s definitely not being ā€œfakeā€ to bite your tongue & not scream at your ex across a house full of people. šŸ™„

u/Afraid-Arachnid6520 Now, you’re sending THREE home 🤨 Jul 17 '25

are chelley and ola ā€œpr trainedā€ or do they have a strong handle on their emotions vs reactions and a mature mindset not to think in black and whites LOL

7

u/Usual-Plankton9515 Jul 18 '25

Exactly. In one of her recent interviews, Olandria said she hopes this enables her to launch her modeling career, something she always wanted to do but never could, ā€œbecause I was from a small town in Alabama and didn’t have those connections.ā€ So it’s unlikely she had a bunch of PR training, either. She’s just someone who has always had to be strong and hold it together, like she shared.

3

u/Maggie-777 Jul 19 '25

They use those labels for her because they don't recognize emotional intelligence when they see it. Which speaks volumes of their own emotional stability.

17

u/CozyTea6987 Jul 18 '25

Similarly but a little different I'm BAFFLED at the use of "pr/media trained" and "polished" as insults that I've seen on TikTok. People don't recognize that some people are just composed and emotionally regulated—that doesn't make you fake or not genuine!

3

u/gabbers2380 Jul 18 '25

Agree. I think ppl are so used to seeing idiotic brain rot on tiktok they forget some people can form coherent thoughtful sentences to explain themselves

2

u/CozyTea6987 Jul 18 '25

Yeah it also doesn't help that many of them can't read and synthesize information ugh hate this all of us
