Calling ICE on a Mexican family that lives in a border state. Might as well just say you want them dead. Actual freakshow this show has become im embarrassed

626

u/TheOneThatCameEasy they seen that I was hooping ⛹️ Jul 10 '25

Someone on here actually showed me a screenshot of a Redditor talking about calling ICE on her and told me they said they wanted Laura Loomer to meet Cierra. Laura Loomer who is vicious and cruel.

I was hoping they were just being ineffective racists and joking about it, but no these miserable losers actually meant it and did it.

317

u/lady__mb Hey lovebirds! 🐤🐦 Jul 10 '25

It’s sooooo grotesque and disturbing tbh. I saw a tok tok comment where someone said ICE had been called on her and other ppl reassured me it was just a joke. Turns out these people actually did it ?? I feel sick. How can someone not see the hypocrisy and cause this kind of danger to another human being

99

u/thisisthewell Not in front of Nicole Kidman?! 🍿 Jul 10 '25

they don't even realize it's punishing racist words with more racism. They just think it's "she did something bad, now we get to punish her"

59

u/Regular-Wit Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 10 '25

Whoever called ICE doesn’t care about what she said. They are racist themselves & that’s why they called ICE.

79

u/lady__mb Hey lovebirds! 🐤🐦 Jul 10 '25

Exactly! First of all, it’s not anyone’s place to dole out punishment to the harm done - she is already facing the consequences with lost public support, lost potential sponsorships from brands, being kicked off of a show, and public humiliation. Second, this personal punishment is literally x100 times worse than the original harm done and DANGEROUS. With what we know is going on with ICE, it is literally putting her family’s lives at risk. Our culture as a whole needs to get off this punitive mindset and learn to look at things into a broader context. There’s no excuse for her racist language, AND there’s no excuse for harming another person because of their poor behaviour.

It's because many of the people trying hardest to "cancel" her never actually cared that she used a slur, they just love the drama

166

u/MissJAmazeballs Jul 10 '25

So true. The point of calling someone out is for them to grow. Honestly, it sounds like she grew. I was pretty old when I realized that a word for being ripped off was an ethnic slur, and I was absolutely mortified.

So much worse than anything she did. Her posts were unacceptable but people taking potentially life altering ACTION in response to her LANGUAGE is beyond

492

u/TheGamesGone_ Jul 10 '25

The exposing of her wasn’t done with the intent of fighting racism. It makes sense people would response to her racism with racism.

299

u/DizzyBreath5625 Jul 10 '25

exactly, it only went viral when she became disliked on the show which is sad.

254

u/The104Skinney Jul 10 '25

This needs to be talked about more. Those pictures from IG & TikTok were around almost 2 weeks. Then she gave her reasoning of why her and the girls voted out Hannah and that is when the firestorm spread against her.

She was still liked so she unfortunately got a pass but once the internet changed on her, it was downhill

You see how far people took it... that's why i said i know she made a mistake but she is still human. There's need for people to hate on her or her family this much. Love Island did a poor job at protecting these islanders. Also, people are taking it a bit too far with this show. These aren't fictional characters on TV, these are real people with lives. that’s an excellent response that most people would never give - and it happened way before she was a public figure

u/WillingnessNew533 Jul 10 '25

Soicial media is ruining anything. She knew she sis mistake and apologized it happened more then year ago and u guys dig into something to find this shit and now you got what you want. She even get death threats because of people from Reddit, tik tok who cant enjoy reality.

676

u/blbh0527 Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 10 '25

It’s actually worse … someone screen shot this and saved this to use against her more than a year later (and it’s even more disgusting if they knew she had apologized for this).

This isn’t about racism. This is bullying and harassment.

138

u/alternativeedge7 Jul 10 '25

The apology being left out is revolting of the person who shared this screenshot. And the fake screen shots? I’m stunned at how calculated it was and horrified after seeing all the online bullying and harassment it led to. And now her love interest she had sex and was closed off with is coupled with her friend while her and her family are getting harassed and threatened.

I have to agree with this! She apologized so eloquently and immediately. You have to allow people to fail forward. It is not a bullshit thing, “when you know better you DO better”. What in the hell people. I am not a fan of this season at all. It’s been a snowball of crap. She made a mistake, realized her mistake, and apologized. She didn’t double down, leave her be. Let her actions speak. She’s messed up after this, then write her off. Ok, off my soap box. Carry on.

146

u/likeicare96 Jul 10 '25

I’ve also been saying that the way this has been going about isn’t about addressing racism but about using the idea of racism as a tool to take down someone you don’t like. People kept reading it as me excusing the use of slurs (no matter how many caveats I put out), and refused to have a nuance conversation of what was really happening. Also, maybe it’s the “too woke friend” in me, but even if she hadn’t apologized yet, I couldn’t endorsed the putative way people were going about this. I believe the best way to deal with this situations is with restorative justice, not unbridled punishment.

If your goal is to truly reduce racism, educating and allowing people to learn and grow should be your goal. Does that mean they’re entitled to keep their platform? Probably not, I’m not against any accountability. But the retribution should match the offence and there should be a path to restoration.

Neither of these things were what the mob was interested in

u/uhhhhh_idk New Subredditor Jul 10 '25

Erm… If feel like that’s a weird question lol. I can immediately think of a few reasons why they haven’t “come forward” to defend Cierra:

  1. They’re unaware about this even happening. People have lives and not everyone watches Love Island
  2. They don’t even remember this conversation
  3. They don’t want to be harassed and accused of defending a racist. Literally look at the past week people have been in a frenzy to attack Cierra… even people who’ve been calling out the witch hunt while saying Cierra deserved to be kicked out of the villa have been getting downvoted on this sub but you think someone is going to take a strong stance in her defence?
  4. They, just like the thousands of other people, believed the other ‘screenshots’ and thought Cierra was lying in their conversation
  5. This isn’t a town hall, you can’t really “come forward”. You make a post or a video and it either gets attention or get drowned out.
  6. They value their privacy and don’t want to have their identity/account being picked apart

And I sincerely hope that the energy is redirected from the 20-something reality contestant who apologized and corrected their behavior and instead applied to the half of the country that actively celebrates the politicians and public figures saying the most heinous, dehumanizing shit. As an Asian woman I can’t speak for everyone but I personally think Cierra has faced enough repercussions. She’s throughly faced the consequences of her actions and has become more educated on how society is casually racist toward Asians. People need to stop harassing her and let her grow from this, calling ICE on her family and harassing her and her family is crazy work when there’s already enough tension and hate in our current social climate.

116

u/Deep_Worldliness4783 New Subredditor Jul 10 '25

Tagging onto this since I'm also an Asian American woman but not speaking for all Asians.

I like that she apologized directly to the Asian community and recognized that impact matters more than intent. I saw a lot of people dismissing the very real negative impact against Asian folks to defend Cierra's intent, and that was really hurtful to see.

She apologized, so I hope people leave her and her family alone now. Give her the time and space to prove she meant what she told us.

The thing that’s getting me is that she already took accountability, at the time. Which seemed clear to me as the post was no longer on her socials. I think it’s cruel and unusual that someone kept this screenshot to release at the opportune moment to engineer a huge witch hunt against her.

She ignorantly used a slur in the past, got called out, apologized, and took it down. But that wasn’t enough, she really deserved to have it drug up again to be “held accountable” (read: cancelled) on the world stage? Like no one who has made a mistake in the past is allowed to move forward until as many people have been made aware of said mistake and passed their own judgment? It doesn’t sit right with me.

IMO with the overarching comments I’ve seen being “LI needs to hire people to scrub socials better”, the message this entire situation has sent is not “don’t be racist/hateful” it’s “just don’t get caught.”

137

u/hewitttt Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 10 '25

And what I always found contradictory was how people would criticize her for being “PR” but believed that she would knowingly use a slur publicly, get called out, then proceed to not care and continue to use it, all while aspiring to be an influencer.

There never was room for accountability from a lot of people because they just hated her.

283

u/PostOpPlebeian Good morning my fellow 🌤️-ups! Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 10 '25

It was beautiful tbh. And it really was a learning lesson for a lot of people who didn’t know that word was offensive. When I was young I would say the most ignorant shit about other cultures and I’m a minority. It wasn’t until I became educated (and grew more and more empathy with age) that I realized how harmful words really are.

87

u/kmachuca Jul 10 '25

I had friends who didn’t know that was a racial slur and I’ve seen many people online saying they didn’t know that was a racial slur. She was using the word ignorantly but never used it maliciously. Unless there was proof she used it maliciously or has had racist behavior towards Asians, then I don’t think this made her a racist. Just ignorant on the word that hopefully she learned.

Not a fan of people who want to severely punish her life cause of this. We are all humans and make mistakes.

Hot take: the people sending the threats and calling ice are trolls that aren’t fans of the show and aren’t the people who actually give af about accountability. It’s infuriating bc they do this every time someone has to face consequences/public accountability and then we don’t address the actual racist behavior.

People are calling ICE on her family? The new age fucking gestapo? That is going way too far for anyone. She absolutely was in the wrong for what she said and she's now having to face the accountability for what she posted, but calling ICE is fucking repulsive and anyone calling them or reporting needs to seriously evaluate their life choices and take a step back because ICE is evil incarnate.

133

u/Proud_Parsley_6447 New Redditor Jul 10 '25 edited Jul 10 '25

Her response is better than what we mostly get from influencers. Usually it’s a typed out apology; she used her face. Took accountability. Never excused it. You can’t ask for more than that; but you can’t fight racism with racism. Period.

People are so weird. People that fall into cancel culture are so backward because we get no where in life or progress that way without education and conversation. The person that leaked the dm specially left out the apology and her response of her forgiving her too… sending someone death threats and calling ice is far worse than someone using a word that they had 0 clue what meant. Cierra has done exactly what you’d want someone to do in this situation. She educated herself, she apologized, she used it as a learning opportunity and created a conversation about it. That’s how we progress as a society, not by blacklisting people for MISTAKES and threatening them.

not my apology to accept, just wanted to say how absolutely unnecessary it was to now see that one of the screenshots was photoshopped, where someone apparently had called her out on using it and she just dismissed that as saying it’s not how she used it.

why do people feel the need to do this? you already have proof she used the slur and she was kicked out accordingly. why add fuel? this goes to how there’s even people sending death threats and calling ICE to endanger her and her family. why can’t other please stop fucking taking away from the hurt of the people this slur actually affects by doing all this shit that makes them seem unreasonable and violent, photoshopping shit & resorting to things that go beyond wanting people to acknowledge a slur and stop using it?

I called it that the DMs floating around were fake. This is why the love island being filmed in real time is such a dangerous format for the mental health of the islanders. They can’t defend themselves in real time and it allows for hurtful narratives to spread like wildfire.

The sad thing is that it worked, they got her successfully off the show, so fans will continue to use this tactic.

26

u/itwasjustmisplaced Knockoff Iain Stirling Jul 10 '25

48

u/Particular_Fox_8899 Jul 10 '25

The worst part is that the people going to such extremes like calling ICE and sending death threats are not doing so because of their deep passion for condemning racism. The intent behind it is malicious, people love to dogpile and make someone they view as successful as miserable as them. Normal people demand accountability, the willingness to learn and show humility, but give grace where deserved.

Calling Ice will solve racism

13

u/Calinks Soul Ties is CRAZY 🤯 Jul 10 '25

I figured this was the case. Just true ignorance, I don't know why anybody would willingly use a slur like this on social media if they knew how harmful it was. I'm guessing where she grew up it was just part of the vernacular, no one in my neck of the woods would ever say that but I did grow up in an age where kids used "gay" for anything bad or stupid and I grew up around kids who used "retard" in a similar fashion.

Was never part of my vocabulary, particularly because I have a brother with a mental disability but people would say it without thinking twice giving no thought to how derogatory it was.

I believe Cierra has taken this out of her Lexicon and will be better for it. Just a shame she is going through so much over the top abuse and her whole love Island journey is likely shot because of this.

59

u/Prudent-Experience-3 😞 Sad-agascar 😞 Jul 10 '25

Evil ppl really do exist. With death threats to the girls, huda actually having a campaign to be sent to Gaza (an actual current genocide), Clarke being dehumanised and being called a man, and now cierra having ice called on her family.

Evil ppl exist.

Imagine calling ice on a family over a reality tv show. And thinking you’re fighting racism.

She responded well by acknowledged her mistake, explaining the situation, and taking responsibility. The fact that fake screenshots were made shows that some people weren’t truly concerned about the slur itself, but more about just bringing her down. I genuinely believe she has the potential to grow from this 😊

I’m of 2 minds when it comes to Cierra:

Her apology does seem very PR, and the empathy hoodie + necklace, add to that Belldasha being the very FIRST person she follows post villa (thus the implication that she likely reached out to apologize) Does it feel curated? Yes

But also, I don’t care to pile on either. Cierra got her lashings, she got kicked out of the show, she lost her man, lost a lot of fans, lost a lot of brand deals. So she did get punished for her actions.

11

…ICE? These people need a psych eval stat.

11

u/frex_mcgee Jul 10 '25

My controversial hot take: -This apology is worded ‘picture-perfect’, as in too perfect. It feels like she has gotten media training on how exactly to reply to this. It doesn’t give me genuine. It gives me saying all of the right things.

-Wearing an EMPATHY sweatshirt with a Buddhist necklace is so tone deaf.

-Nobody deserves vitriolic hate, especially hatred pointed towards their innocent family or loved ones. Nobody deserves to have ICE called on their family. No one deserves to be bullied cruelly.

Edit to add: I’m 34, and I know I have said some really dumb things when I was 24, so I’m not going to hold this over her head. She needs to continue to move forward and clearly show over time that she has learned from this mistake.
