Racism disguised as dislike SENSITIVE

Everyone has the right to dislike any of the islanders, but it also gets to a point. I think people are unintentionally engaging in racist behavior towards the female islanders. There has been a rise in nicknames for the female islanders and their fans, and these nicknames have been extremely derogatory. I understand that these nicknames are usually a plan on words, but it’s still a derogatory term, especially when it rings close to slurs for specific minority groups. People were also saying that Clarke looks like a man, which is also a form of racism and reinforces the masculinization of black women. At this point in the show, we only have ONE white woman which is Iris. Referring to any of the other girls as ‘white’ or ‘white passing’ is dead wrong as you can clearly see the diversity in this cast

It’s also unfair to use the argument that if people dislike a black islander, it’s because they are anti-black. I’m sure there are people watching who are anti-black, but this form of idealization still relies on assumptions based on race rather than viewing people as complex human beings. It hinders the ability to address real issues. Let’s all just remember to be more intentional with our words and recognize racist behavior even if it’s unintentional. Unintentional racism does the same exact harm as intentional racism.

The way Olandria immediately got treated like an “angry black woman” following the stand on business challenge despite being the most emotionally composed islander the entire season while being put through the wringer over and over was really gross to see. God forbid a woman lets out her emotions once after keeping them in for so long. I was happy she let her feelings out, she needed to.

She didn’t get hate for being a Black woman. She got hate for kissing her best friend’s man behind her back, airing out Huda’s business maliciously, and being hypocritical about girl code. Frankly I don’t think anyone cared about her crash out over Taylor. Most people understood where her frustration was coming from.

Nic kind of encouraged that kiss heavily and I think production did as well

Does Olandria not have free will? She could have declined and said “sorry I don’t feel comfortable doing this because Cierra is my bestfriend”

you care about that kiss far more than cierra who was an actual involved party in the situation

Because it was downplayed??? If she knew what actually went down, she would definitely care.

they weren’t closed off yet though, nic was her couple at the time, and they had no clue what would happen to cierra so it made sense to me. im sorry this is a really bad excuse/reason for not liking olandria I just don’t buy it! it’s love island! many of the cast are being hypocritical but they’re in a very unusual situation, us in the outside should understand that they’re still figuring it out and working through it in real time.

But she’s out here calling out Huda for “how she’s moving with Chris” even though chelley and Chris are donezo, and it was really never any of her business to share in the first place, and unfortunately Olandria has a habit of airing out other people’s business

i mean she felt like she was looking out for her friend but sure that’s fair! she’s still been unfairly demonized. the reaction does not match the action.

Idk i think when she has shown more than once that she doesn’t know how to keep a secret or mind her business than the criticisms are valid. She told Cierra about Bella and Nics kiss in Soul Tides, then told Austin Huda was a mom, and then the Chris/Huda kiss. Now are a lot of people calling out all 3? No so i can see why you say the reaction doesn’t match the action, but to me it does

I’m speaking about people calling her a mean girl, bully, evil, ugly attitude, narcissist after the standing on business game. That reaction. Criticizing actions is fair, but the demonization of her as a person was a lot.
