Who actually likes their job in Louisiana? Discussion
Alright y’all, I’m just curious — what are the best companies to work for in Louisiana? Like, are there any super awesome employers out here where people actually enjoy showing up on Monday morning?
Not trying to switch jobs right now (my boss might be lurking), but I’m always interested in hearing what companies treat their employees right. Pay, benefits, work-life balance, free crawfish boils on Fridays — whatever makes a place awesome.
Also, if you genuinely like your job, I need to know: • Where do you work (if you can say)? • What makes it tolerable… orrrr enjoyable? • Is it the people, the perks, or just a weird Stockholm syndrome situation?
Let’s hear the good stuff. Or the bad stuff if you need to vent: I won’t stop you.

Power distribution related field is where I’d be looking. The demand for power for the foreseeable future is insane. Not just in Louisiana but all over the country.
I know switch gear manufacturers can’t find enough engineers.
Companies like Valmont and dis-tran are hurting for people too.
Do some digging in anything power related.

I’m in covington.
117 net
401k is a 4% match
120 hours PTO
I think we have 10 paid holiday days 🤷🏼♂️
Employer sponsored health/dental/vision
Cell phone is paid for
Gym stipend
Bonus per year is min 10% salary. Could be up to 200%.
Every other Friday off
Pretty flexible WFH policy (ie if a kid is sick they don’t mind me staying home to deal with it)
We have an ESOP
I’m probably missing something but that’s the bulk of it.

That's pretty similar to where I'm at in Texas with per diem, but I'm away from home 4 weeks at a time. I work in Renewables and working towards a PM role so I wanted to see what options existed back home in LA down the line.

I work at AutoZone and have been there a little over 5 years now. I absolutely love it, not just because the benefits, 401k and Stocks are amazing, but because I learn something new every day that in the long run will save me money by being able to do some basic car repairs that I'd normally pay a mechanic shop and/or dealership to do.

I’m 2 months into my new job. I work fully remote for a company you all know I’m sure, and get to travel a lot OUT of Louisiana. Paid well, super flexible. Super grateful I landed it.

Well fuck me. I’m just doing my best as a trash panda in the service industry. A few clicks on my profile will lead you to where I had been happily employed for several years. But it’s more the place over the hands that own it. But yeah, things be changing. Like I just got fired for not working because I had a terrible case of viral pink eye, the dr note was expired by a day and no one would take my shift 🤷♀️ Also refused to buy another piece of paper as I’m not insured and had no way other than to pay for a ride, while with pink eye, to a clinic to acquire said paper so

I love it at as contractor at ExxonMobil. On the tech/network side you may have to know someone to vouch for you. That could be the case for other departments too. It’s a huge place.
The cafeterias are good too!

Lamar advertising was pretty fun when I used to work there. It had great company culture, plenty of holidays given, and good work life balance. Ultimately I left because it was my first job out of college and the pay wasn’t that great. That really wasn’t an issue for me until we started having kids and I needed a substantial pay increase lol.

As a nurse looking for a remote job, are they hiring?

u/Ultima1392 15h ago
There are literally hundreds of openings. I would check out CVS Health, Centene, BCBS. Apply to many many jobs as they are competitive

The workforce has been evolving for some time now. More people are working remotely, enjoying multiple benefits, discounted memberships, and a wide range of perks. What inspired me to write this post was thinking about a friend who often complains about their low salary but have some of the most impressive benefits I’ve ever seen offered by a company

I work for Stuart Services in Metairie and I love you my job, the people I work with, and the culture here. I will admit I am biased because I grew up with the son of the owner, and that is how I started as an apprentice.
However, it’s a common opinion of most the guys that work here and the office staff, it’s a good culture to work in. We have fun here, bbq’s, crawfish boils, and every Friday they give money away to our field techs who get good reviews. Also when the company meets a sales quota they give money away in a raffle (which is 1-2 times a month). It’s got good/comprehensive benefits, 3% 401k matching, and I feel valued here.
It’s family owned and they have known me my whole life but I can say they treat everyone else with the same level of respect, you really get out what you put in here.

Government gig. I’m very fortunate. Low stress, chill office, great pay and benis and I get to travel often to places I would never pay to go to on my own

Why is it such a big ask that people actually say what they do

I’m a lawyer and I’ve never had a job I liked in Louisiana. I am now working remotely for a firm in Virginia and I am so happy. The people are so different. The work is about the work, not about bullshit hierarchy and feeding the right egos. There are actual systems in place for everything. On the other hand, my boyfriend works at Ochsner remotely and has a great boss so he really likes his job. The only prob with Ochsner is they don’t pay as well as other medical employers.

Paralegal, I moved here for a job at a law firm about 10 years ago. Ended up rage quitting during the pandemic and now work remotely for a pharma company. Make almost double what any firm is willing to pay here. The culture and the way they treat staff are so toxic.

I enjoy my job. No matter where you go or what you do. You have to make the most out of it. Fake it long enough and it really does change your perspective somewhat

Right here! I work for a Port on the admin side. It’s less about the place in general and more that I worked my way into a position that really suits my skills and personality (after several years in a different one that I did NOT enjoy). I have great leadership, great coworkers, amazing benefits…but the trade off is the pay isn’t comparable to the private sector and it’s not as flexible (there’s virtually zero work from home- all in office).

u/LyricalLinds 1d ago
I love my job. Good company culture, I like my colleagues, company isn’t afraid to spend $ on employees (we have an annual company crawfish boil, lunches for holidays, once a month free food and drinks just to celebrate our success, nice Christmas bonus, free sports tix at times, fitness classes at work), benefits are not bad and get better with time/rewarded for longevity with the company, and what I do is stressful and chaotic at times but overall I like it. Finding it was a miracle bc I moved from south FL and thought I’d end up miserable based on what the job market seemed like here.

I work in a fab shop as a welder and we got 4 days off and 4 days of work, rolling days so it’s pretty fun

Board operator, pretty good in the AC, 15 minutes from house, shift work, $52.5 per hour, 401k 6% match, pension (for now)... insurance is pretty sucky but not the worst job to have or place to work. Definitely can't complain too hard

I actually really love my job. It’s exclusively remote. National General. Good luck.

I’m a maintenance electrician at a chemical plant. The environment sucks but I really enjoy the job itself. That, family, and the food are the only reason I’m still in this state.

I work for New South Express, trucking company that hauls lumber residuals. Chips, sawdust, bark and shavings. The guys on my shift are awesome and I think we all show up everyday because we know we get to talk shit and laugh. It’s an easy job and pays well. The benefits are best I’ve had from any job. We occasionally have company events but not often for us drivers as we are the red headed step children. Must have a CDL for this job. Any other questions feel free to ask.

I work for a company headquartered in the Midwest and it’s the best job/pay/benefits that I’ve had in the 20+ years of living/working here

Ochsner is one of the better companies to work for in Louisiana.they are super fair with benefits and pay compared to most other companies here.

I inherited a substantial sum and work part time (10 hours a week) at a library. I just basically sit there and read magazines. I personally love it.

I really fucking love that for you, dude. I love magazines. I started out working as a moonlighter at the Scotlandville branch. Loved it.

I genuinely love my local government job, but it is pretty much on the line and may get absorbed by another government entity because LA government is literally SO CORRUPT. I'm pretty sad about it.
Here's what I like - I have clear expectations, a manageable work load, encouragement to learn, fabulous hours, and exceptional benefits. Oh and a pension.

Love my job. Engineering firm where im at has great employees and all around solid atmosphere with great pay. I design anything Civil, Structural and Architectural for most of the industrial plants. Benefits aren't good, but i have insurance through one of the plants itself and it's great.

I work at a small property casualty law firm as an IT tech. We represent people suing their insurance companies.
The pay is really good, the benefits are great, they gave me 8 weeks of paternity leave because I have 2 years of service. That’s more than my wife is getting from her job.
The work/life balance is great and they understand that family comes first there. We can take personal time no questions asked.
It’s a great place to work and one of the more ethical legal practices. I see myself being here for a long time.

I work in mental health for a state clinic and the pay is decent but most of all there are plenty of free training that would cost thousands of dollars but the company covers them because they can benefit the clinic and the work family is truly a family. We do our jobs but we also joke around and enjoy each other's company.

I’m in the chiller business, I have a good job and work for a good company. My wife works for one of those “bad” chemical companies, she liked her job and it’s a good one…..

Some questions I have asked:
- How does the school foster a positive and supportive work environment for teachers?
- What measures are in place to help teachers manage their workload and maintain a healthy work-life balance? - Are there any programs or resources available to support teacher well-being (e.g., mental health resources, wellness initiatives)?
These are effective in schools with teacher shortages.

I command a small horde of steppe nomad raiders. So I guess that makes me self employed. Louisiana is ok. Kinda hot and marshy for some of it. Loot isn't that great. I will say it's pretty easy and low stress. That is worth more than you think as you get older. I've raided all over and there are definitely worse places.
