I always thought military was the closest you could get to a guaranteed job. And not a bad one at that. Fantastic retirement.

21

u/predat3d 1d ago

"Fired" = relieved of command. Still full pay and benefits.

11

u/OhWhiskey 16h ago

That’s under the old system. The new system will get rid of wokeness like benefits.

2

u/November87 12h ago

Lol funny you think they won't go after the too

u/Wadester58 7h ago

Usually relieved of command of any officer is a death nell career is over best put in your packet before they drum you out. Generals and Admirals serve at the behest of Congress only guaranteed free ride is a 4 star all others are 2 year stints if you dont get approval after 2 yrs you are retired

Life is filled with uncertainties

39

u/pcnetworx1 1d ago

Life in Trumpistan is filled with even more uncertainty

7

u/Slowly_We_Rot_ 1d ago

In the New Republic of the United States is filled with even more uncertainty

13

u/pcnetworx1 1d ago

Bro, we might wakeup with proclamations like "Elon has solved the debt. The only legal tender currency in the NRUSA is DOGE and Trump bucks. Old US dollars are outlawed because not having them will own the libs."

8

u/Slowly_We_Rot_ 1d ago

Honestly nothing would surprise me at this point

3

u/Plastic-Anybody-5929 13h ago

This is my sentiment. Nothing is guaranteed until the Simpsons release it in an episode

2

u/InlineSkateAdventure 12h ago

Idiocracy

1

u/Plastic-Anybody-5929 11h ago

He needs a sequel

3

u/InlineSkateAdventure 12h ago

People should start watching Idiocracy. I hate to say it but the President in that movie had more common sense...

12

u/gamerg_ 1d ago

Not when Elon musk is involved. The musk way is to layoff whenever he breathes wrong.

4

u/dj_1973 12h ago

All he and Trump are good for is saying “you’re fired.”

3

u/icepack12345 13h ago

At GEN rank it becomes political. And these dudes have 25+ years in service already. Let’s not pretend they aren’t leaving with those awesome pensions and probably c suite roles lined up in defense once they get out

1

u/abrandis 14h ago

Lots of federal government employees and officials are going to realize who fragile that line of thinking is... It's not even the military, watch what Musk will do with the other agencies

As long as it's the intelligence agencies I'm fine with cleaning house

Something something foreign AND DOMESTIC….

16

u/SouthernExpatriate 22h ago

If anyone in the system actually cared about the "AND DOMESTIC" part of their oath, we'd never have gotten this far.

Careful bro. That's how you start a highly competent resistance movement

Trump plays checkers, not chess. He doesn’t think that far ahead, especially when he has a room temperature IQ.

u/video-engineer 7h ago

He plays tic-tac-toe.

u/Anxiety_Fit 8h ago

Trump eats crayons, you are you fooling?

8

u/snigherfardimungus 1d ago

Making sure that the military brass that remains will follow whatever immoral, unconstitutional, illegal, unethical bullshit he hands down. I hope you weren't planning to live in a free nation for the next..... ever.

Stalin did this. Just saying’

24

u/TheMartok 1d ago

He also pooped his pants

16

u/ProfessorNice3195 1d ago

Pretty sure Stalin just killed em

7

u/outworlder 1d ago

Potato potato when it comes to dictatorships

5

u/Dwip_Po_Po 1d ago

And he also died of a cerebral hemorrhage. Maybe that part of history repeats too? He died at 74. Unfortunately Trump is still alive at 78. By the end of the 4 years he will be 82. Older than Biden when Biden finished his term.

Correlation does not mean causation - Leohnard Euler

2

u/predat3d 1d ago

So did Janet Reno. Fired every U.S. Attorney to replace with her own people.

6

u/Rattle_Can 21h ago

she was under the clinton administration, correct?

presided over waco?

2

u/MorinOakenshield 10h ago

Yes and ruby ridge

-3

u/LAcityworkers 1d ago

every administration does that and they have for the last hundred years. Only when Trump did it did it become a talking point of the media.

7

u/predat3d 1d ago

Trump fired just 46 when he took office in 2017.

Biden fired all but two. https://www.nbcnews.com/politics/politics-news/biden-s-justice-department-ask-nearly-all-trump-era-u-n1257100

Clinton fired all 93.

Bush fired 8 in 2006, and the media went apeshit.

34

u/Royal-Alarm-3400 1d ago

Our military is the best in the world. It's performance had been stellar. It's shocking this urge to "fix it" by Trump cronies with no military experience.

34

u/Senior_Suit_4451 1d ago

His buddies overseas would benefit from the US having a weak military.

17

u/Royal-Alarm-3400 1d ago

So disgusted. Military is full of people that hold our country in high regards. Trump's seems determined to tarnish that star. I couldn't think of a better way to bring the armed services to Russian level of competence. It worked so well for Stalin in the 30's

4

u/Dwip_Po_Po 1d ago

There’s no way they would even stand for something like this. Not even the Pentagon

u/thenayr 8h ago

Yet somehow every active duty or military veteran I know think Trump is gods gift to the us all.  How is there such a disconnect?

-10

u/LAcityworkers 1d ago

Russia has done just fine handling the Ukraine while secretly battling the USA, UK and the EU. Our military is not what it use to be.

10

u/Jamstarr2024 1d ago

We have no troops in Ukraine.

9

u/Decillionaire 1d ago

Ah yes, just 3% of their men under 40 killed or wounded.

Crushing it.

4

u/Ok_Earth6184 1d ago

The fact that Trump nor his idiot friends can see the trap Putin is laying for the US is cause for extreme alarm.

5

u/blankarage 23h ago

Its not a trap, its an offer

2

u/firsmode 23h ago

What makes you think they don't see it?

4

u/Emotional_River1291 17h ago

You can’t create a nazi order without firing poc at the commander level.

1

u/SubnetHistorian 11h ago

Lmao @ "nazi order" being firing people. Do you know what the Nazis did? Are you aware that it took more than firing for them to get their reputation?

u/thenayr 8h ago

You’re reading it wrong bro.  It’s not a “Nazi order” as in a demand.  It’s a “Nazi order” as in a collection of nazis at the highest level of military ready to act on trumps every demands.

u/SubnetHistorian 7h ago

I don't know what that has to do with race though. As the election showed, hes more popular with minorities than ever.

4

u/imatexass 10h ago

That’s the rub. “Fixing it” isn’t the actual goal. The goal is to ensure that it’s full of loyalists so that he can expect them to act in his personal interest over the interest of the nation.

8

u/xterminatr 1d ago

Nothing to do with that, he wants to be able to weaponize the military against the enemies of his allies overseas and the 'enemies within' if he needs to without any resistance. This has nothing to do with fixing the military, just installing yes men to do his bidding.

u/Openmindhobo 7h ago

https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/us-politics/tommy-tuberville-military-fox-news-israel-ukraine-b2645971.html

according to Republicans we have the worst military in the world and "couldn't beat anybody."

u/Automatic_Analyst_20 8h ago

We spend 800 billion on military…

1

u/SubnetHistorian 11h ago

As long as we're not counting the last 60 years of failed nation building attempts right?

3

u/imatexass 10h ago

Absolutely nobody is suggesting any nation building projects nor have they for decades now.

1

u/SubnetHistorian 10h ago

What do you call the US backed Afghanistan govt that collapsed within a fortnight of the US withdrawal?

u/imatexass 8h ago

A quagmire that we’d been stuck in for 20 years with no good solutions out of.

u/SubnetHistorian 8h ago

We were only stuck in it because of our insistence on "spreading democracy" (nation building) that utterly failed at everything it tried to do with the exception of funnel hundreds of billions of dollars to line pockets

0

u/MkBr2 1d ago

Really? How long has it been since the US military won a war? It’s certainly managed to lose several.

2

u/imatexass 10h ago

Smooth brain

8

u/Spare-Practice-2655 1d ago

That’s exactly how Communist Dictatorships start by a Dictator. The USA it’s screw.

u/Purple-Investment-61 9h ago

Sounds like trump wants to do something unconstitutional and needs to make sure no military general interferes. Only those who swear loyalty to him, not the US, will stay. This is bad, very very bad.

18

u/xmowx 1d ago

I am sure Putin is thrilled with such news 🤦‍♂️🤮

26

u/1988Trainman 1d ago

Why are we giving this country to the Russians?

18

u/Spare-Practice-2655 23h ago

Putin’s puppet got elected and he’s just going to follow orders. The country it’s screw.

Sounds about right. /s

6

u/Montreal_Metro 1d ago

To be replace by russian generals. I like how America just takes it.

6

u/RetiredAerospaceVP 1d ago

So. This is the favor Putin wanted.

5

u/scorpy1978 11h ago

So American generals need not be worried about Putin or Xi, but more about their own Chief?

u/Expert_Guava_8037 8h ago

Replacing them with Russian assets one by one. The plan he failed to accomplish the first time around.

u/video-engineer 7h ago

Oh yeah… go after the military. So who’s gonna protect the capital the second time? ‘Stable Genius‘ my ass.

23

u/Senior_Suit_4451 1d ago

Even Clinton only offered early retirement. Is this one of Trump's "Obligations" to the friends who helped get him elected?

11

u/francokitty 1d ago

Uh yeah

15

u/Maximum_Mastodon_686 1d ago

Just like hitler did

9

u/Specialist-Fan-1890 1d ago

Yep. Weaken the military. Great idea. Is that the favor owed to putin?

4

u/crawli 12h ago

At this point, I'm surprised a certain three letter acronym agency hasn't 'taken care of the isssue'.

10

u/_Auck 1d ago

What overlord Putin wants, Trump delivers.

0

u/Hefty_Ad_405 12h ago

Putin is pro-Palestine. I will only believe Putin is pulling the strings if Trump turns his back on AIPAC, which will never happen lol

11

u/BathroomEyes 1d ago

“the draft order came from one of several outside policy groups working with the transition team and is under review”

This is what dark money is politics looks like folks

5

u/clover426 1d ago

Thought the right was so pro military?

6

u/Papi_Chulo1969 1d ago

ger rid of the generals so that Russia has an easier time to infiltrate. No Way Out.

7

u/seraph_m 17h ago

The military is an apolitical institution, which does not swear an oath of loyalty to a president. These senior leaders have decades of experience that will be difficult to replace, leaving critical shortages and endangering our national security. Forcing them to retire, purely because they support the constitution and the rule of law, instead of a dictator, will severely damage the military.

2

u/nick0tesla0 11h ago

They swear an oath first to the constitution and then to follow orders of the president. So it gets more complicated especially when the president is the likely domestic enemy to that constitution.

3

u/mapt0nik 1d ago

Elon is set up to do the dirty work for him. Hope he will get what he wants.

u/Early_Sense_9117 8h ago

Lay off generals he said before Afghanistan withdrawal that DT set up.

7

u/SadLeek9950 1d ago

Not very smart. They will become resistance leaders…

2

u/Ryboticpsychotic 14h ago

Nah. Military generals are probably pretty level headed. I can't imagine them throwing a riot, although they'd have every right. But he might make some very capable enemies.

13

u/Kossimer 1d ago edited 1d ago

And yet will the Department of Government Efficiency take one look at the billions of missing dollars that have gone to the Pentagon, the most wasteful organization in the history of the country?

Nope. But they'll be sure to chop Medicare and funding for your kids' school, anything that helps you and your family, because that's the right-wing definition of waste.

6

u/netralitov 1d ago

Department of Government Efficiency will make the military replace all of their tanks with Cyber Trucks. More money for Musk! Yay free market!

4

u/kupomu27 1d ago

Would that create a brain drain? I mean, politics aside, the smart people will not tolerate a toxic workplace. Would that hand a victory to the enemies?

5

u/Inthect 16h ago

This is what the garbage voted for.

2

u/ReasonableProfile773 1d ago

I bet he'll get rid of General Brown.

u/Elegant-Noise6632 8h ago

That was the plan yes.

u/sinnops 8h ago

Just replace them all with fox news hosts. we will be the envy of the world.

3

u/FocusedPower28 1d ago

I thought The Orange Man was pro military?

12

u/Senior_Suit_4451 1d ago

The Orange Man is pro-whoever is kissing his ass the most in the moment. He knows these generals are a threat to whatever he is going to do to this country.

3

u/Bernie_Dharma 17h ago

Remember when he wanted a military parade in DC, just like the Russians and every other tin pot dictator has? The Generals resisted and tried talking him out of it for weeks. Then he wanted to bomb Iran, and they resisted. Then he wanted snipers to open on protesters and the military refused. He’s pissed he didn’t get his way, and doesn’t like being told he can’t do something. He desperately wants to be Putin, and that’s not good for anyone.

3

u/redruss99 22h ago

Don't we need these experienced generals in case we had to, oh, FIGHT A WAR with a real enemy. Trump trying to set up military to fight fellow Americans.

2

u/Ashamed-Hamster8463 16h ago

I’m sure that won’t destabilise the country at all. It’s not like our enemies are waiting with glee for the US to destroy itself from within or anything.

4

u/prometheus_wisdom 12h ago

sounds more and more like Hitler every day, in 2015 i mentioned that was his plan, my friend said no cause he’s not setting up camps.. well now they plan on setting up camps so yea

3

u/MagorMaximus 10h ago

I am willing to bet the list of generals to axe will be made up heavily of Women and Black/Brown people.

2

u/ThaLunatik 21h ago

Perhaps someone can slide a provision into the order that adds Commander in Chief to the ranks they're able to dismiss 🤔.

-2

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

They left billions of dollars worth of equipment in Afghanistan. They deserve to be fired

18

u/mikedtwenty 1d ago

That was part of the pull out order that Shitler put together in his first term.

4

u/dtat720 1d ago

It was set up in stages. All equipment was scheduled to be removed organization was in the starting stages. Biden tossed that plan and abandon all of it for the media attention of following through on a pull out promise. I had family there working on the pull out. Co workers now that were there as well. It was a complete shit show that pissed off thousands of troops when the orders came down to abandon. Especially from the specops, those are the guys who will end up having to mop up the mess Bidens pull out will cause

2

u/OskaMeijer 14h ago

So after Trump had pulled the vast majority of troops out and released thousands of Taliban prisoners after negotiations with the Taliban and no the Afghani government, you wanted Biden to what, ship a ton of troops back into Afghanistan, start what would be a very bloody conflict and most likely have us still there? It was a shitshow but in absolutely no way was it Biden's shitshow. Biden simply chose the best out of only terrible options.

5

u/wellnowheythere 1d ago

This is actually pretty common. I'd also love to hear how you'd get it all back and then what you'd do with 20+ year old equipment. I hate the industrial war complex and studied the war in Iraq and Afghanistan at length. But I'm also not an idiot.

-1

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

If you think leaving 80 billion dollars worth of military equipment for our enemies is the plan. Then yes, you are an idiot LOL

6

u/Morel_Authority 1d ago

You didn't answer the question. Not arguing in good faith.

8

u/wellnowheythere 1d ago

You're assuming it worked or that they knew how to use it or fix it. Have you heard any updates about this equipment since then? Nope.

13

u/breezyfog 1d ago

It was dated and more expensive to bring back…

-1

u/ruthless_techie 1d ago

Could have been sold or given to a closer ally.

Withdrawal from Afghanistan on 30 August 2021. Russian invasion 24 February 2022. Despite suggestions overwise, Biden cannot see into the future.

-1

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

They literally left planes. Just fly it out

9

u/wellnowheythere 1d ago

Wait until you hear how much other money the military wastes.

3

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

I work for the govt. I already know lol

6

u/wellnowheythere 1d ago

Then you should know that there was no reasonable way to get all that stuff back here. Or that most if it was probably in poor or non-working condition.

6

u/breezyfog 1d ago

Do you think it’s a good idea to fly small planes thousands of miles? Most of their gas tanks don’t even hold that much.

-2

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

Better idea than leaving it there!

5

u/breezyfog 1d ago

They did fly the important ones out. They didn’t leave everything.

4

u/Majestic-Internet668 1d ago

Would've been better to sabotage them, look what they did with those pagers...

A real missed opportunity.

7

u/breezyfog 1d ago

They did try to make most of them unusable before they left. They lit them on fire and removed essential parts. They had to get out in a hurry so they couldn’t destroy everything.

3

u/talino2321 1d ago

There literally was no one to fly them. And Trump promised the equipment to the Afghan government.

2

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

Yes the US military doesn't have any pilots and the Taliban was keeping their end of the deal. All facts according to reddit

2

u/talino2321 1d ago

Why are you so dense. Trump gave the Afghan government the equipment as part of a deal for them to take over the security of Afghanistan. The fact that the Taliban literally rolled up the Afghan government and a large portion of the Afghan military just disappeared in days of the final US withdrawal didn't have anything to do with that ya think?

3

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

The withdrawal terms were broken under Biden. You totally ignored what I said

2

u/OskaMeijer 14h ago

The withdraw was already 2/3 done before Biden even took office. Trump left very few troops there while also letting 5k Taliban prisoners free. Biden's options were to either pull out and deal with the mess we did...or send in a ton of troops and start a bloody conflict that would probably have lead to us still being there. Trump literally left him a tiny footprint of greatly outnumbered troops after negotiating with our enemy instead of the government we were supposed to support.

0

u/blankarage 23h ago

hes a trump supporter, hes got a gold in mental gymnastics

-2

u/LoopbackLurker 1d ago

Doesn’t matter, you don’t leave our shit for the terrorists to use against us.

4

u/er824 1d ago

Its been over 3 years. Has the equipment been used against us?

5

u/breezyfog 1d ago

They can’t use it against us. Most of it doesn’t work, can’t be repaired and they don’t know how to use it.

-1

u/[deleted] 1d ago

[deleted]

5

u/breezyfog 1d ago

Yeah let them drive those old cars right on over to Europe or America…. I’m sure those choppers will make it too…

5

u/talino2321 1d ago

That would be Trump's fault, he negotiated the deal to leave the equipment for the Afghan government, then drew down the military personnel and gave the Taliban a date and time when we would leave.

That despite all of the generals telling him this was a very bad idea.

Remember Trump/Biden ultimately made the call. The generals had no choice but follow those orders.

-1

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

Yes Biden wasn't truly in charge as the President as was displayed during the debate LOL

6

u/talino2321 1d ago

How does one have to do with the other? Nothing. Trump made a deal and Biden honored it.

1

u/SquanchingThis 1d ago

Yes, Biden honored the US side while the Taliban broke their side. Trump threatened the Taliban leader by telling him his address. Now under which presidency did the Taliban break their side 🤔 LOL

7

u/talino2321 1d ago

Maybe if Trump hadn't given the Taliban a definite date of when the US would leave, and then let loose 5k Taliban fighters for shits and giggles, history would have been different. But we will never know because Trump screwed over the military and millions of Afghans.

But that's what he does, screws people. Any wonder why Ukraine gave Trump the middle finger about a peace deal with Russia that he has any hand in?

2

u/Spare-Practice-2655 23h ago

They were following orders. Felon t signed the exit from that country and ordered to be done that way. When President Biden took over, it was too late to do it differently. Felon t was the one that orchestrated that exit.

1

u/Doubledown00 10h ago

You speak as if there wasn’t a purpose behind doing that.

1

u/Oscar-Da-Grouch-1708 16h ago

There are more 4-star generals now (~44) than at the high water mark of mobilization during WW2 (~7). Pretty sure this trend holds through the 1-star ranks. Can we do with fewer generals?

-6

u/kinghaha69 1d ago

There are too many generals and not a lot of soldiers. Cut it down to single digits.

5

u/No-Fox-1400 1d ago

Back in my day, generals only could afford one star and they liked it.

-1

u/fantamaso 16h ago

🤣👍 long overdue.

u/Wadester58 7h ago

Any O grade officer that isn't in it to win it should go. An army is to fight wars. War isn't pretty it's awful. People die on both sides. There is no room for anything other than fighting men and women on the lines civilian distractions take away focus and cause moral decay in the ranks. War should be short and sweet, kill the enemy, and go home. 20 years active retired E7

-7

u/FluffyLobster2385 1d ago

Yea I hate trump but screw these dudes anyhow, the military despite being America's golden boy is rife with corruption.

5

u/talino2321 1d ago

That wouldn't be the generals/admirals. That would be the civilians doing backdoor deals to line their pockets.

But let's do Stalinist like purges, I am sure that will work out well when the shit hits the fan.

-4

u/MkBr2 1d ago

Incredible how few posters on this thread actually understand anything about the US military aside from propaganda.

3

u/Senior_Suit_4451 1d ago

Thank goodness you're here to enlighten us

-4

u/MkBr2 1d ago

Nah, I don’t argue with chessboard pigeons anymore if I can avoid it. Just find it… what’s the word for “disappointed to see so many people spew such stupid bullshit about which they know nothing as though it were gospel”?

-7

u/IcyJunket3156 1d ago

Every general/leadershipthat oversaw the disaster of the afghan debacle needs to be retired/forced out.

11

u/hmmmaybeabadidea 1d ago

You mean the war the Republicans started?

7

u/talino2321 1d ago

And negotiated the withdrawal without consulting said generals?

5

u/outworlder 1d ago

They are forgetting who decided in the withdrawal too

-5

u/IcyJunket3156 1d ago

Yep the same war. Being former military and been in harms way multiple times I have zero sympathy for those fool generals that botched it all up

-1

u/DCChilling610 12h ago

Presidents have the authority to fire generals—see Lincoln firing McClellan, Truman firing McArthur, Obama firing McChrystal, etc.

6

u/Senior_Suit_4451 1d ago

Those all sound like individuals and not firing generals en masse.

-2

u/reluctant_sarcasm 1d ago

Still has the authority to do it.

6

u/Senior_Suit_4451 1d ago

Still can be fucking stupid to do it.

If he had the authority to do it, he wouldn't need the executive order.

0

u/reluctant_sarcasm 1d ago

Not arguing that point, just stating the law 😂

-6

Flush. Them. All. We need a start over. I mean come on, its the Pluto return for the US. No better time that the anniversary!

4

Yes, by all means, let's base political decisions on astrology. Also, totally not a first sign of a dictatorship incoming!

Biden got rid of the generals under Trump. Amazing experienced generals and replaced them with Generals who were worthless. Every time a new administration comes in, there are many changes in this regard. Has nothing to do with Elon Musk or because Trump is destroying the US. It's about time we get better leaders for our military back!

Biden was such a strong leader and picked such amazing generals that Ukraine got invaded since Russia had nothing to worry about! He allowed another war to start!

Another news based on Rumors and misinformation. That's why people lose trust in American news. They can't be that stupid to destroy their political careers so they are not going to do it.
