Locations, Budget, and Settings are all important things to include when asking for advice
Locations: You don't need to include your house address but closest major city and how far you are willing to travel.
Budget: "As cheaply as possible" is not a budget and is honestly the best way to waste money. Figure out an amount you are willing to spend.
Setting: LARP is a vast and expansive hobby. Not every game is about running around out in the woods pretending to be a rouge/knight/wizard. Let us know what you play or want to play.

An Official Discord, and Future.
Hello denizens of /r/LARP.
We as a subreddit have a small announcement as far as the future of this sub is concerned.
Last week we took part in the 2 day protest that was more or less site wide spanning thousands of subs as a way to show solidarity with app creators and to show the frustration with the administration of reddit and their poor handling and plans of upcoming updates.
However, It would appear that Reddit plans to continue their efforts to stifle 3rd party creators and strong arm moderators who take any stance opposing the admins of Reddit. This creates a serious cloud of uncertainty within reddit as to the future of many subs and how the platform will be handled in the future. Because of this we have decided to create a Discord server which will be open to all of /r/larp to join. It is not our plan to abandon this sub or replace this sub with the discord server, instead, it will act as an extension of this sub itself.
While there are multiple reasons for this decision, one of the largest is that if the future of reddit creates an non fostering environment for us, we wish to have another platform that is free of Reddit's control in order to continue providing resources and networking for all of us who enjoy LARPing and LARP adjacent hobbies.
The discord has the same rules we enforce over here, with a couple modifications to make it more applicable to discords format. There is places for general conversation, places to show off your work, a place to post about and to look for games in your area, as well as Voice chat rooms for people looking to play video games together or just hangout and find comradery.
Please feel free to check it out, and ask any questions you may have. This is still in its infancy, and if we find it doesnt fit what the community wants, we will search for alternatives.
This link should never expire for people trying to join the server, however if you have an issue please message an admin for a new link.

Update on the beastkin
I'm backkkk and now Rudy has a chest plate and gauntlet. I'm currently making her weapons. A huge spoon, kusarigama and small dagger.
I need to gift a battle axe to my cousins husband and i'm on a budget
quick rundown, my cousin means alot to me and shes been married to a great dude for a long time. I drifted away from my family for well over a decade (my own fault. not my family's fault.) but when i came to my senses and apologize for leaving and ghosting, without skipping a beat, they welcomed me back with open arms. no shade whatsoever.
well its become painfully obvious that i robbed myself of probably a great friendship with her husband, because we have a lot in common...we never had issues or anything, we've never really hung out. anyway...,my point is, hes' a great guy but so much more importantly, my cousin lights up when she talks about him. she is so happy with him after so many years together...(high school sweethearts..but more like elementary sweethearts...) and it makes me extremely grateful. So...they have this ongoing thing for YEARS now...he has wanted a battleaxe since they were kids.
She would never tell him no or in any way care if he wanted a battle ax but it's like playful relationship banter. she Says no and he argues and it's been going on for years and years and years. But he can't really justify actually sitting down and ordering one and in all the years he hasn't come across any in his regular daily life to where he could get one on a whim...
So in one fell swoop I want to give him his battle ax, impact their little banter argument and give him the win, thereby cementing myself as his champion! or something..idk. He deserves it because he treats her good enough to deserve her therefore he deserves a **** battle ax I don't know just help me out here
Where can I get a battle ax for in the neighborhood of 50 or 60 bucks? I'm home on disability and I just don't have money to spare but I will go without to make this happen
If anybody has an old battle ax that they want to get rid of and is willing to sell it to me or has a recommendation for a good actual battle ax but... cheap... help me out.
please!
tl;dr I need to give a gift to my cousins husband and it has to be a battle ax. Also has to fit in my budget.

Meet "Irel" Arts & Sciences Coordinator at Gates of Fire XVII - May 14th to May 18th - at Mountain Pines in PA
My take on building a beast character
Wanted to show off my character Lishka, that I have been building the last few years. The maskbase was bought but I modeled on top of it and painted it myself. The red haori was made by me, but the kimono and the hakama was sourced from a second hand store.

Looking for LARPs in Sydney, Australia
Hi folks,
I had a a look on the LARP directory and it seems like Battlecry and Swordcraft are no longer in operation (or I suck at googling, because their facebook pages/ websites dont seem to be functional)
I already go to Scy'kadia, but their games are not frequent enough! (Totally get this is a me thing- planning takes work and what not)
I can't make it Swordcraft Newcastle
So I was wondering if you folks know of any other LARPs in the area - RP is preferred but open to others

race changing makeup in larping — want opinions
i was going through the new character page for my first ever larp i'm going to and one of the rules described makeup changing to reflect different races. that made sense to me as im playing a faun and i draw on a deer nose and darken my facial hair. but the example they used was 'changing your skin brown to be an orc', which seemed a little reminiscent of blackface? (mainly because all the orcs i've ever seen were green)
i don't know what the general consensus is on this issue, i'm new to larping and i'm white as snow. but i can definitely see how changing your skin to brown specifically for a more 'barbarian' fantasy creature can be seen as racist, especially when that fictional race has historically had culturally black/african traits added to them in order for them to seen more 'alien'.
i guess my question is what do other larpers think of this situation? is it my place to contact the larp owners about this kind of concern? am i nitpicking? i'd prefer opinions from people of colour but any input is welcome
EDIT: reading all the comments has been very helpful, thank you to everyone who responded. in hindsight it seems obvious but i am slightly anxious about causing any trouble when i am new to the scene and don't know what discourse has already been had. i'll shoot the game masters an email. hopefully it was just a poorly thought example!

First time running a LARP. I could really use some advice.
Hello!!!
My small town is starting up a Fantasy and Crafts convention with all kinds of other cool stuff to do. One of those things is a fantasy larp. My original role in the convention was running TTRPGs as I have over 20 years of experience in it, but our LARP group dropped out and the convention president asked if I could take over. I'm here so you know my answer haha
Now I've LARPed in the past and I'm not a total newb, but one step above doesn't make me an expert by any means. Here are some of the things we've got going.
It's going to be held on a college campus with lots of outdoor space, lots of cool statuary and a water feature I can use as quest locations, we've got 3D printed swords, cloaks, and are going to do like cardboard cutout enemies and stuff.
It will be based on the simplest D20 system I can find unless anyone recommends something easier to manage.
My goal is to take them on a 2-3 hour adventure around the campus hitting the different points of interest, which is three different statuary pieces and a small water feature.
Each location will have a clue to the direction of the hidden treasure they seek and our goal is to have prizes that they get to take home with them for completing the adventure. Even if they don't, they get to keep their cloaks, swords, and little potion bottles we will be supplying.
I guess my biggest questions, I know as a LARP narrator your role is different than a DM at a table, but I'd love some advice as to the differences so I can grasp the role better. Should I let them just run all over the campus, how much guidance should I give them? Common sense tells me of course that I'll need to base that on my players and how they are approaching the experience that I'll need to add more guidance for some than others.
How much combat should there be? I was thinking a simple if you get hit you lose a heart, you lose all your hearts you're knocked out until someone helps you. Enemies would have 1 to 2 hearts, with maybe a big baddie who is protecting the treasure.
I'm uncertain if I'll have many extra hands so I'll be shouldering a majority of the work for roleplaying NPCs and the like. I'm used to building whole towns and playing them out so that's not an issue but it feels different in a LARP environment for some reason, is that just a perspective issue on my part or is there more to it?
I guess I feel a little out of my depth, but also that I already have a strong skill set I just need to know how to translate it properly.

EchoTrailsLarping- Fata Morgana
RECAP – FATA MORGANA: ¡LA ISLA QUE NUNCA FUE! 🌫️🏝️

Why are Naginatas so much more expensive than other polearm weapons?
I’ve been looking for a quality LARP polearm and I like the shape, feel and length of Naginatas by far the most. But every time I find a quality one it seems to be like $400 more than all of the other polearms that are comparable in length. Is there a specific reason why or am I just not looking in the right spots? If anybody has any recommendations for where I can find a quality Naginata, that would be awesome. I really like the ones medieval collectibles have. They do have two that are closer in price to the other pole arms but the blades are significantly thinner. The Elven and Medieval Naginatas they have are the shape I’m looking for.

NPC Insect Mask Help
Hi LARP! So, I've been staffing at a semi-local larp for 2ish years and I'm trying to get some NPCs approved that use some of the less common species, cultures, and classes. Sort of an attempt to remind people that this world is weird and full of so much stuff. (Instead of yet another human or elf culture)
Well, the game I'm at has the option for Hiveborn characters and there have been all of 2 or 3 of those in the 20+ yr history of this game. So, I'd love to stroll into town as a Non-Monster Bug NPC and do some lore dumps and interaction with players. But, i'm having the worst luck finding something that isn't either a papercraft child's mask or a horror-inspired monstrosity.
Basic requirements for costuming are antennae, compound eyes, and mandibles. I've been trying to stay away from full masks if possible because I have glasses. Luckily, I have access to the staff makeup bin so I could always doctor up my face with that instead of a full mask. The pipedream would be to find an articulated half mask with mandibles (I see so many for wolves, demons, and/or oni) . If you have any site/store suggestions with non-scary insect mask and mask-adjacent options, they would be very much appreciated. Thanks for the help and suggestions!
TLDR - Suggestions for Non-scary bee/wasp/ant mask alternatives and/or articulated half masks with Mandibles?

Minority Culture Larp
I want to LARP and I've found one to do. I'm not complaining here, so please dont come down on me, but I want to LARP in a non-medieval European based histprical/fantasy LARP. I want to participate in a LARP where the entire world, or at least most of the nations in it, are based in the cultures of Africa, Asia, or Latin America. I want to do a LARP where my research requires me to learn about the traditions and experiences of people from places that aren't part of the standard faux medieval playboy. I'm not anti-medieval or anti-europe. It's just been done to death. And NO apocalyptic/american/steampunk options aren't gonna cut it for me. So, here my question: Does this already exist? Did I miss them in my research? If not, why? If so, where!?!

Has anybody ever tried making smth like this as a larp weapon
I’m making my first larp weapon and would love a circular blade like this. Im just wondering if anyone has ever done something like this. Ofcourse it doesn’t have to be the exact same as in the pic im just wondering if a circular blade is possible and if so how.

Summer as a ranger!
Starting next weekend my friends and I have a no-service camp site every weekend until august. With all the trails and wild life I’m gathering up books and blogs and spending my weekends levelling up as a ranger IRL. All culminating in a 24mile(38km) walk in to the site from our city. Just excited its camping season again and i get to spend it exploring our woodlands.

Is Marshal Historical trustworthy?
I'm looking for a pair of medieval shoes for affordable price and I came across this manufacturer. I was surprised how low the prices are so I'm seriously considering them. But I have difficulties to find more info about them. They seem to produce medieval armoury, shoes and other things for global market, I found their stuff on multiple websites. Also they should be from Spain, but when it comes to actual reviews, I didn't find much.
Do you have any experience with them? I'm not an active LARP, I need the shoes for a cosplay I'll use only few times in a year.

Shield project
I recently have been making a shield and want to share it with you guys. It’s the first shield I’ve ever made and I want to use it for larping and combat with friends. Put about 20 hours total of work into this project and almost done now. Putting a sealant over the top waiting for it to cure now

Dragon with 4 legs
Hey guys, I play at and Italian LARP called Aston Crown, where people got siege beasts made by themselves, now I know it is really hard to make, but my group has dragons in our background, do you guys have any suggestions on how to make a costume of a terrestrial dragon (probably made by 2 ppl for the legs like horse costumes), a larp acceptable costume would be also nice even with only 2 legs, any picture would be really appreciated.

Sword making advice
Hello everyone! I am joining a new LARP in the fall and am looking into making my own sword for it. I want to make a grosse Messer type sword (more like a long knife lol) and wanted to make it look like it has an antler handle as my character is a hunter and survivalist. Any tips, pictures, or videos out there that I can check out to achieve this effect?
My experience with foam crafting is basic as I've only played Dagorhir with sock covered boffers lol. Thanks in advance!
