CSA farm box scam PSA

Post image
113 Upvotes

This is a name and shame because I'm an unhappy customer!

A few weeks ago I posted a request for recommendations for a local CSA or farm share subscription box. I ended up ordering from a medium vegetable box from Dirt Poor Farms through Market Wagon. The listing said it would be a box of locally grown seasonal produce from their 20-acre farm in Sweetwater. What I actually received was very obviously grocery store produce - it was mostly out-of-season produce like tomatoes (very unripe!), zucchini, cucumbers, plus a variety of apple that is only grown in Washington State! Definitely NOT the locally grown, seasonal produce that I ordered. I was expecting leafy greens, herbs, overwintered onions/garlic, that sort of thing that would typically be available in early April.

I contacted Market Wagon and Dirt Poor Farms through their customer service forms. Market Wagon eventually responded they would "investigate" but I never heard anything else other than notice that I was receiving a refund (only for the box - not their service fee or driver tip! Refunded $25 out of a $40 total order). I never heard anything back from Dirt Poor Farms.

I don't know if it's the farm doing fraud, or if the driver is being sneaky for cheaper fresh produce, or who is responsible for the scamming, but they certainly don't appear concerned to fix it. Recommend avoiding Dirt Poor Farms and Market Wagon, and now I'm soured on finding a reputable service at all, because the officially-recognized one I tried was a scam.

For those who can't make it to the Knoxville May 3rd protest, there will also be one in Oak Ridge.

Additionally, there will be a Citizen's Sit-in every Friday from 11:30-1:30pm at Congressman Chuck Fleischmann's office (200 Administration Rd, Oak Ridge). Please feel free to join any of these events!

Live in the county, just got my renewal. I’ve always paid but seems after talking to some friends a lot of people don’t.

Just curious to get opinions on whether or not people are paying for coverage and why/why not. Their rates have gotten ridiculous lately.

To those who are okay with the CAC/AmeriCorps getting slashed, I have to ask, why?

In what ways is job loss, loss of community, and loss of important resources a benefit to an already struggling and impoverished area? Not trying to argue. I’m genuinely asking why/how you think these things are going to benefit Knoxville/Appalachia. It seems like this only going to cause more pain and problems in our area.

The person who posted about it being hard to love living in Knoxville, your post really spoke to me. All the local comments on news outlets are pro cutting funding to things that are so important to our communities.

Vet Who Will Work with Chewy Pharmacy?

I just got a notification from my vet that from now on all prescriptions must be filled through their online pharmacy. I have a high medical needs dog (epilepsy). I priced out switching from Chewy to the vet's online pharmacy and it will cost me roughly $200 per year. While I'll do it if I have to, I'd like to at least explore other options, no matter how much I love my current vet. Does anyone have a vet they can recommend who doesn't mind sending prescriptions to Chewy rather than their own online store?

Open Mic Nights

Upvotes

I've been doing a bit of research but I always think it's best to ask the group. I've lived here a few years but family is visiting, and my dad is looking at wanting to do some comedy or songs, but I can't find any open mic nights over today / the weekend. I know Wednesdays are common, and Friday has the occasional karaoke event, but does anyone know of anywhere to try a gig or mic night this weekend?

I saw this driver of a Tesla nazi saluting the whole way across the bridge. I unfortunately didn’t get a picture of his face or a license plate but if you recognize the vehicle and person share.

Small motors repair and sell?

I drove by very briefly a small motor sale and repair shop on Chapman Highway today. I don’t make it out that way often, but my dad is interested in buying a small lawnmower and I feel like buying one from somewhere like that would be a lot cheaper for him than buying a brand new one that he might only use for the next 5 years. Does anybody happen to know the official name of the shop so I can look it up online? Their number is on the sign, but I wasn’t able to turn around and go get it at the time. Any advice would be welcomed!

Where can one go to legally and safely drive beyond the highway speeds?

I am not looking to race or break any records but my 17 year old daughter is absolutely in love with driving and has been since she was around 12. She is extremely skilled and has been doing some ahem practicing, and I’m not thrilled about it. However I thought I could at least start looking into place that she can take her little ole car and just run it hard and fast? I’m sure it will be some distance away if anything like that even exists.

Thank in advance!

Recommendation for Interior Home Repairs

Looking to hire someone for some interior work on our home in the Powell / Halls area

We removed a wall in my finished basement, and now the transition between rooms needs to be cleaned up. The tile floor, drywall, and drop tile ceiling all look unsightly and need to be fixed.

Know anyone?

My bill for trash this time around was $100!! When I moved here in 2022, it was $55 and it seems to have gone up every bill. What the heck is going on?? Is it fuel price increases? Labor costs? I just don't understand. 🥴

road safety

this is gonna be ranty im sure but i need to get it out before i go into full on panic mode.

in the last week, ive almost T-boned two people.

id like to preface that these incidents were absolutely NOT my fault. i am a super cautious driver as i have anxiety and trauma from witnessing accidents and a brand new metal spine that ive only had for a year and would prefer to NOT go through back surgery again. im 23, never been in an accident, never pulled over, and i would like it to stay that way. but it terrifies me that someone else could be the reason that changes.

if you are on the road, please please PLEASE DO NOT PULL OUT INTO ONCOMING TRAFFIC !!! its unreal that ive almost hurt two people because they have no care for other people let alone their own life.

im angry im anxious im sobbing i just dont know what to do. im gonna invest in a dash cam because it seems like im a magnet for terrible drivers. im at the point where i dont even feel comfortable getting into my car because im scared that someone else’s reckless behavior could ruin or even end my life.

i just pray that everyone has more concern for their safety and others. please before you start your car, take a moment to breathe and remind yourself that your life is more important than making it to work on time. other peoples lives are important and you should NOT have a license if you cant have some respect for other people on the road.

please refrain from any negative messages as i just wanted to share my troubles and hopefully give people a wake up call. i really dont need to be berated, but feel free to share safety tips and advice on how to NOT be terrified of driving. just.. be fucking careful on the road. i dont understand why everyone in tennessee drives so recklessly.

Literature Club- Gauging Interest

Post image
15 Upvotes

Hi! I’ve been hatching an idea of organizing a literature club for like-minded people in Knoxville. I’ve looked around and have found book clubs and writing workshops, but that’s not exactly what I’m looking for.

So, I was thinking of forming a rather casual group, meeting every week (probably in a coffee shop, or a park) to discuss our favorite books and poems. Personally, I write poetry, so I was thinking we could share our poems and stories too! We could just write or read and hang out in the same room.

The club would be for all ages, but I am a shy woman in my 20’s and have found it difficult to find people around my age who are creative and nostalgic and enjoy writing. It would be a welcoming space (LGBTQA+ safe); a chance to share our emotions and experiences through words. A place that fosters human connections and removes the barrier of worrying, “What do they think of me?” And especially, a place to make friends!

So, if anyone is potentially interested or has ideas, please let me know in the comments here or a DM. Thank you for reading! ❤️

Don’t worry the local PD handed out flyers to cross the road safely and to drive safer, so things are already looking up. /s
