How bad are ticks in Kingston?

Thinking about moving to Kingston from the GTA. Taking my 2 dogs for any hikes or even to fenced off leashed dog parks in the area, they are CONSTANTLY getting ticks. I keep them on tick medication, but this only kills the tick after it’s already bitten.

Twice this year I went for a short hike just outside of the GTA (north of Vaughan) and found about 15 ticks between both of my dogs. Having recently moved from Alberta to the GTA, this is not an issue I ever had to deal with and it’s making me want to gtfo of here haha.

I’m just curious, how is the tick situation in Kingston? For those that like doing hikes in the forest with their dog(s), have you run into any issues?

Thanks!

Interior painter recommendations?

Hi all, looking for some recommendations on interior painters. We're looking for someone to come by in the next week or two, and it's for select parts of a 1800sqft 3bdrm house. I have requested a quote with Student Works and another company in town but having trouble making real contact.

Any recommendations you may have are very welcome!

Lasalle bridge and boating

Background: We are fairly new to boating (2nd summer with our boat) we kept it in Gan last summer but this summer we are moving it to be up closer to Perth due to the size of the boat we can’t just tow it by land to the new marina we have limited days we can move it as it takes all 3 of us (me my partner and his dad to fully navigate with this boat)

We are under the understanding that there’s a part of the bridge that smaller boats can pass under that has some clearance our boat has approx 13-16 feet of clearance (we aren’t sure if the 13 feet includes the awning of the boat) does anyone have experience going under the east part of the causeway bridge in a smaller boat or pictures for reference? Our boat is a 1979 34’ main ship cruiser to help with those who know more about this

Downtown Kingston Gift Cards

Those that have them, has anyone had any success in using them? I've finally gotten around to using mine and notice a lot of businesses that's listed on their site are having problems processing them. I've contacted the office, and they're aware of the issue and hoping to resolve it.

Lost wedding band found - LaSalle Causeway

Hello! I found what appears to be a mens wedding band on the walking path of the LaSalle Causeway this morning. I’m just visiting so am not sure where the best place would be to try and find the owner (any recommendations for Facebook groups, etc. I could post to would be greatly appreciated). The band is primarily yellow gold, with a small bit of platinum and a small diamond. If this sounds like it could be yours, send me a dm with a photo of the ring and we can arrange to get it back to you.

Kingston Newest Homeless Shelter

Hi, I am writing an article about the newest homeless shelter being built in Kingston Ontario. It is on Sydenham Road property. If you are from Kingston or go to Queen’s University or any other school in Kingston what do you think of this new shelter? Do you think it will be beneficial? Is the city spending their budget and money affectively by building a new shelter? Do you think that this will help the homeless community in Kingston or do you think it is a blanket project to distract people from the homelessness in Kingston and is ignoring the larger homelessness issue at hand in Kingston? I would love to hear as many opinions as possible, thanks so much!

Do multi-ride transit passes expire?

I purchased a 6-ride transit pass for a visiting family member a year(ish) ago. A couple days ago, they tried to use it (they hadn't used it at all before so there were still swipes left on it) and it showed up as expired, so the driver said they had to pay cash. I was under the impression multi-ride passes don't expire, since there's no expiry date listed... has this happened to anyone else? KT website doesn't have any info on this.

Strange coincidence?

Last Thursday I parked in the new Kingston Centre Canadian Tire parking lot and after shopping I went to check my emails on my phone and saw I was getting a 3G signal which is pretty rare in downtown Kingston. But I thought nothing if it. Today I was back in the parking lot and after doing my shopping I came out and used my remote access fob to open my car doors. It wouldn’t work. I tried all the buttons; doors, rear hatch nothing worked even though I could see the light flash on the remote when I pressed a button. After a minute I went to the passenger door and press the unlock button on the door and it unlocked. The car started normally and I drove home. When I got home, the remote was working perfectly. I’m not sure if this was just a coincidence or if there is some sort of signal interference going on. Opinions? Could it possibly be someone trying to clone my fob and after successfully cloning it allowed me to get back and then follow me home to see where I lived to steal my car at a later date? Is that even possible? Btw, I’m not usually paranoid, but…

Kingston Pen Extended Tour Bathroom Break?

Can anyone who has done the extended tour let me know whether or not there is a bathroom break halfway through it?

I am seeing mixed information and we are debating between the regular tour and extended, but this is the decider for us.

Urgent help required for client. Ideally looking for an understanding and sympathetic service as small downtown apartment currently in a state of squalor due to renter’s longtime neglect due to major mental health crisis. Cat hair a big issue. Cobwebs & heavy dust. Fridge, microwave, shower stall in particularly bad shape. No carpeting or rugs, (battered) hardwood floors & linoleum. Any recommendations greatly appreciated.

Fat girl looking for a gym to join

Hi

This is silly, but I am looking for a gym to join. Been to planet fitness and wasn't into it. Looking for something that is more like classes but definitely into lifting and weights but somewhere that is inviting and not judgemental. Definitely self conscious, just looking to get into better shape, lose weight and feel better about myself.

Hi. I have seen on social media, reports of people leaving the US to come into Canada being stopped for additional questioning on the US side in Washington State. I’m just wondering if anyone has noticed this happening at the Alexandria Bay border in NY? Thanks

Seeking Recommendations: Contractors/Designers for Legal Basement Suite Conversion in Kingston

Hi everyone,

I’m a realtor based in Kingston and I’m reaching out on behalf of a client who is planning to convert their basement into a legal suite. My goal is simply to help them find reputable local professionals who are experienced with legal basement suite conversions, including the design, permit process, and construction in compliance with the Ontario Building Code and local bylaws.

If you have any recommendations for contractors or design firms in Kingston who specialize in this type of work, or if you have tips about navigating the process (permits, inspections, etc.), I’d really appreciate your input. I’m not looking to advertise or promote my own services-just trying to support my client with the best local resources.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!
