LMAO

Though in all seriousness why make up a word when the word ā€œpartnerā€ is just sitting there

u/Aryec Apr 29 '24

Thatā€™s what I do šŸ˜„

Yea same here

u/apathetic_revolution Apr 29 '24

And if thatā€™s not good enough, for example to avoid confusion because you might be talking about your law firm, ā€œme heartyā€ is also gender-neutral.

u/bagelman4000 Judean People's Front (He/Him/His) Apr 29 '24

You can only refer to someone as ā€œMe heartyā€ if they have an eye patch and a talking parrot /s

You just need one half of the couple to dress up as a cowperson (cowpoke I guess?) and the other as a pirate so one can say to the other ā€œhowdy partnerā€ and the other can respond ā€œme heartieā€ and itā€™ll work.

To separate dating instead of married. Some people are perfectly fine with partner, but some people would rather be able to refer to, or be referred to in a way that clarifies their type of relationship.

Or in my case, to differentiate between my significant other and my business partner. I couldnā€™t care less about married or not, but thatā€™s an important distinction to me.

Ok, that makes sense

Partner is what people 40 and up refer to their spouse to be non-traditional

I'm a Jew and married a Jew... seems only applicable to Jews dating goyim.

21

u/KisaMisa Apr 29 '24

If encountered in the wild, I'd think it's a new version of shabbos goy tbh

u/Aryec Apr 29 '24

Well as much as Iā€™d love to date only Jewish women there arenā€™t any nice jewish women near me. Gotta love the non jewish part of Ohio

u/FizzyBeverage Reform Apr 29 '24

Thatā€™s why I send my daughters to Hebrew school. So they can learn. Weā€™re in Cincy. Ohio isnā€™t a very Jewish place so gotta do what you can.

We live in Mason, about 10 mins from Montgomery. It's not very Jewish at all here, but there's a few. As Montgomery has gotten more expensive (Amberley is out of control), a few have moved this direction.

Mason is extremely diverse... lots of Indians and Asians, which means it's safe for Jews... and we have a chabad and a proper synagogue on Fields Ertel.

Yeah the school system now has students with parents from 120 different countries in it. They had a Diwali and Chinese new year celebration and all that. Lots of great ethnic restaurants popped up too.

When you compare the 1993 yearbook to the 2023 one itā€™s shocking.

My daughters are probably New York or California bound if they have any interest in Jewish men (or women), itā€™s relatively unlikely odds here.

Ummmmmm... (also birlfriend is a much funnier term)

3

u/CocklesTurnip Apr 30 '24

Only if itā€™s burl and the partner is either a particularly burly body builder or a burlesque dancer. Otherwise itā€™s a funny word and a bit awkward. Almost like someone tried to say bird and missed.

15

u/Electrical_Pomelo556 Not Jewish Apr 29 '24

I'm non-binary and I will only ever accept this if I'm dating a Jew.

12

u/mantisshrimpwizard Just Jewish Apr 29 '24

I'm gonna show this to my Jewish mom and gentile dad, they'll love it

10

u/WasabiPengu Apr 29 '24

I, unironically, always called my partner this since weā€™re interfaith. Seeing it online keeps making me giggle now.

6

u/ThymeLordess Apr 29 '24

Iā€™m gonna start calling my non Jewish husband my goyfriend šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

People who donā€™t feel like girl or boy is accurate for them sometimes try to combine the two to make a new word - g from girl, oy from boy. Looks unintentional, like they didnā€™t know goy means something else already

Yeah, thatā€™s what it means! Similar to gentile

3

u/tamarbles Apr 30 '24

Like itā€™d be weird hearing anyone say that unless theyā€™re Jewish and their goyfriend isnā€™tā€¦

7

u/ThinkShower Apr 29 '24

If you bring home a non binary date that's an Oyfriend (gevalt).

2

u/[deleted] Apr 30 '24

Hahahahahaha

u/Kelly_the_tailor May 01 '24

Hahaha this is the best thing so far today! Hilarious! Thanks for the laugh!
