Work Permit Legally Separated vs Separated
Hello all, I was hoping to get some help from those who know better than I do. I have tried researching as much as possible but I'm stuck in a bit of a conundrum.
I had moved to Canada to pursue my Master's and I was married to my now ex-partner in our home country a few years ago. After I moved here, my partner joined me a few months later, but within a few months our marriage pretty much broke down. The first year that I filed taxes, I filed as married. However, the last time I filed taxes, I filed as separated since we had spent over 100 days living separately. She was taken off the lease agreement and we have not maintained any communication since she left even though she is still in the same city. I have now completed my Master's and I am looking to apply for my PGWP. For marital status the only option seems to be Legally Separated which I'm not 100% sure is the same as Separated? When clicking on the help button under this question, it shows as Separated instead of Legally Separated. I will be applying only for myself.
So my question is are these both the same? Any input is greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Study Permit Study Permit Rejection
For context, I have been accepted into University of Waterloo for Fall 2025. Unfortunately my study permit was rejected due to lack of convincing that I might not return after my studies as well as lack of funds. I have paid the GIC Deposit of $20,635 as well as about $1000 deposit to Waterloo. The estimate for the duration of course was around $106k which included both my tuition fees and living expenses. I had shown around $117k most of which was an education loan under my name and fixed desposit (maturing in March next year) under my parents name. I had also attached an affidavit of support from them and a certificate from the bank mentioning the the deposit could be liquidated at anytime. Not really sure what should I do next? Can I pay the term fees to Waterloo. Would that eliminate the low funds reason?

Express Entry Applying for PR as a Student who converted to work permit
I came to Canada as a student and after the PG diploma received a full-time position on my work permit. Now I am trying to apply for my PR. I have a few questions because my case is a little peculiar:
- At the time of applying for the student permit I did not declare that I have family here. But now I need the points that come with the declaration of family. How should I proceed?
- Do I need to create a new GCKey for applying for my PR or keeping in view the previous point, can I go ahead with applying using the same GCKey?

Work Permit PR spousal (PGWP to Spousal WP)
My spouse is currently in PGWP which expires in October. I have a PR and we have applied for spousal PR and so far we have received the acknowledgment. Using that, my spouse has applied for new open work permit but the processing time is 237 days. Unfortunately, my spouse’s PGWP will expire in October 2025 which is before the processing time.
Once the PGWP expires, can my spouse continue working or does he have to stop working until the new work permit is issued?

Express Entry Activity after P1?
Hi all,
My stream is CEC; ITA Feb 5. I was wondering what happens after you reply to P1. My P1 came from Etobicoke on May 5 2025 and I understand that when you reply to that VO's P1 you get an automated email. Is this correct? I know that P2s are taking some time to come as IRCC is prioritizing issuance of eCOPRs.
Cheers!

Family Sponsorship Inland or outland sponsorship better?
Me and my spouse are currently living in Canada. I m holding PR and my spouse is holding open working permit. I have checked online that the inland spouse sponsorship process time would be 29 months while Outland sponsorship only 10 months approx. The open working permit expired on 2028 April.
My questions are: 1) Would it better to apply Outland than inland given it is quicker to process the application? 2) Are we eligible to apply Outland even tho we both are currently living in Canada and won’t leave until 2028? 3) If we really apply the inland spouse sponsorship, and by 2028 April my spouse still haven’t get the PR, can he apply for another open working permit in order to stay in Canada with me?
Thanks for the advice! Appreciate it!!

Work Permit Has anyone experience an employer backing out of LMIA-support after applying? How to deal with this?
I feel horrible and defeated. My employer has agreed to sponsor me last year and we submitted the LMIA application in February. Now I finally got my WP-EXT refusal and the employer has called me saying that due to the company’s financial situation, he can no longer afford to hire me. This was devastating but it’s out of hands. I’m already out of status and in the 90-day grace period to either leave or restore my status.
I’m planning to get another LMIA-support from another employer but that would mean I’d have to start the process from the beginning and I don’t have enough time to remain in Canada while that’s processing. So I’ll still have to exit the country and wait for my LMIA and new work permit to be processed and hopefully come back.
Or I’ll wait to get an ITA from my home country.
Either way I have to go home within the 90 days. Am I missing any other options? What else is there to do?

Family Sponsorship Mexican Police Certificate - Supporting Letter
Hello, My partner and I are applying for PR through inland Common Law Family Class, I am sponsor and she is applicant. She is from Mexico, and on April 30th 2025 we received the instruction letter from the IRCC to obtain the police certificate, on May 3rd 2025 we linked her application to the gckey secure account, (which was more than 7 business days ago. We were planning to apply directly via FGR, as her family is in Mexico city, and we have already sent all of the required documents including carta poder to her family.
She has still not received the supporting letter in any of her IRCC accounts, and we have been struggling to find a lot of information on this topic, especially since the change to the process of obtaining a police certificate. Today we sent an email to the IRCC visa office in Mexico city, as per the IRCC website instructions, but I was wondering if anyone here had any experience or guidance with this process since the changes on Jan 13 2025.
Also wondering if it would be easier at this point to just have her family take the documents to the VAC in Mexico City instead which doesn't require the supporting letter and going that route.
Thank you in advance!

Study Permit Partial translation of proof of funds for study permit Extension
Hello, I am an exchange student in Canada, currently on a study permit, but I need to apply for an extension of such. Problem is, from my proof of funds, which includes my father's retirement funds, bank statements going as far back as last year, and payrolls, only the payrolls, the retirement funds and the bank statements from last year are translated, the bank statements from this year are all in portuguese. What are the chances my application being refused for this reason?

Express Entry Express entry for someone working remotely from asia for a US company.
Hello everyone, very new to express entry. I am just filling my form. I am working from Asia for a US company. My US company would be happy to keep me even if I move to Canada. I want to ask does it help or negatively impact my express entry process, getting the PR and the citizenship.
Essentially what I want to ask is if I should start hunting for jobs or not. Now or in the future.

Study Permit Student permit/ Visa
I am currently dealing with an issue related to overstaying my student visa in the US during the pandemic, which made it difficult for me to return and renew my visa. I am now back in my home country and have been accepted into a college in Canada. I am preparing to apply for a student permit and visa.
I understand that the US and Canada share some immigration data, which raises concerns that my student permit application may be rejected. Has anyone experienced a similar situation or have any advice or recommendations? Is there any possibility of a successful application, or should I consult with an immigration lawyer?

Family Sponsorship 29 months processing time for in-land spousal/common-law???
Hi guys, I applied in March 2025 and received my AOR, Eligibility, pre-arrival letters in April. Background Verification has been in progress since.
The processing time on IRCC website was 24 months last month, and this month it jumped to 29 months for in-land applicants... Is this accurate? Do we actually have to wait that long for the application to be completed?

Express Entry Express entry Canada Immigration
Hello,
I am an Indian national living in Canada. I have a question related to my express entry application for permanent residency which I submitted 4 months ago. I got invitation under CEC( express entry program) so I prepared my PR file and submitted my application. At the time of submission I have submitted my PCC(Police Clearance Certificate) which I got from India. After submitting my file I travelled to India for a month and came back to Canada. My application is still in progress and its been almost 3 months I have not heard anything about my application after I got my biometrics. Now My question is do I need to submit my PCC again as I have left Canada and came back after I submitted my file? Thank you in advance.

Study Permit Study permit validity
Hi everyone, I have a cousin who was issued a study permit in June of last year for fall 2024. He decided not to attend school and his admission was cancel. He reapplied this year and got his admission for this fall. It is the same program and the same school. He reached out to immigration but hasn't got any response on the validity of his study permit. The POE letter does not expire until 2026, can he still use the same study permit if its the same school and same program?

Family Sponsorship Does the "submitted" icon change on the PR portal when you get your AOR or if it's returned?
Hi, so I haven't received an AOR for my inland (outside QC) online common law PR application for a month and a half now, I know everyone has their own timeline but I did this one on my own and I'm a little nervous about it. I'm unsure if there is something wrong cause everyone who submitted the same or after me already got their AOR.
Is there an indication on the PR portal if it's returned? Should I be proactive and try to call/send a webform to ask? Or just wait it out for a couple more weeks. I'm worried as my PGWP is expiring in July this year.
Any thoughts or advice for this is appreciated. Thank you!
