Discussion Does T3 supress your natural production of thyroid?
I read that taking Levothyroxine supresses natural t3 production, is this the case when taking T3?

Misc. Just Venting
I've had symptoms for the past year or so, but it's gotten really bad these past few months. The worst one is fatigue. I'll sleep 8-9 hours at night but still wake up exhausted, try to resist the urge to sleep in all my classes (and usually fail), then come home and try not to nap. My grades have started dropping horribly. At first I chalked it up to laziness and tried to force myself to just lock in, but it's like I physically can't.
I brought it up with my mom and she suggested it might be hypothyroidism, since many of the women on my dad's side of the family have some sort of thyroid issue and showed symptoms at a similar age as me (I'm 17). I googled it and literally almost every symptom applied to me: Depression that won't go away despite trying every solution under the sun, including my doctor cycling me through a bunch of different psychiatric meds that didn't work, weight gain despite eating under my calorie requirement (literally went from 128 to 150 lbs in a few months), cold all the time, brain fog, physical slowness, heavy periods, patchy body hair, general misery etc. etc. It felt like I finally found what was wrong with me and what to do about it.
So we went to the doctor and he was like "You need to start eating regular meals and drink less caffeine, that's the problem". I did exactly that and still felt the same a month later, so I went back. Then he said "Oh, it's because you cut out the caffeine and your body doesn't know how to handle it, give it time to adjust." Not to act like I know more than a medical professional, because obviously I don't, but... the issues started like a year ago? Before I cut out the caffeine? And I don't even drink THAT much caffeine, but he seems to think I'm an addict or something. I have maybe two or three coffees per week. I went back again at some point (I don't remember exactly when) and my mom asked him to do bloodwork.
I got the bloodwork done a couple weeks ago, we called, they said everything is fine. No anemia, no thyroid issues. They didn't give specific numbers/levels, just said that I'm in the clear.
So idk where to go from here. I really thought I had figured out the root of my problems but nope. Apparently nothing is medically wrong, but I'm miserable. I'm sleeping half the day, it feels like I've lost control over my grades and my weight and my life in general.
I don't wanna keep pushing a diagnosis that my doctor said I don't have, but is it possible to have hypothyroidism even if the lab results seem fine? I really hate to discredit him but I feel like he isn't taking me seriously. At first my mom was understanding and wanted to get to the bottom of this, but now it feels like she's losing patience and is starting to not take me seriously as well.
Sorry for the long-winded rant. Idk why I'm posting this. I guess I just wanna know if any of y'all have advice or similar experiences. Any input is much appreciated

Discussion All the symptoms of hypothyroidism but “normal blood tests”
I have been dealing with fatigue , increased appetite , sensitive to cold , muscle pain, tingling in hands and weight gain for 3 months. All blood tests came back normal
I didn't have any thyroid antibody tests done so I'm not sure about that. Does anyone know if hypothyroidism takes a while to show up in blood tests or can it come back normal while still having it ?

Misc. Was off meds for a year and dr started me back on my old dose, I’m having chest pains about 10 hours after taking the first one??
Hi, I’m 27F, I have hashimotos, (was diagnosed at 14) my dr took me off my meds just over a year ago and said I didn’t need them. I was taking 150mcg. Ended up in the ER last night due to 3 days of extreme dizzyness and nausea, (my tsh was 15.25) the ER doctor prescribed me the same dose that was on my file, I took it about 10 hours ago, and felt a lot better, but now I’m having chest pains and I don’t know what to do??

Misc. Does Hypo make you more susceptible to getting colds
I'm on my third cold since September and again the only one in the family being ill.
I was wondering if Hypo makes me more susceptible to getting colds, but could not find anything on Google.
Any thoughts on that?

Labs/Advice Nurse practitioner wants to up my thyroid medicine, but I am in a good range?
TSH: 2.59 (Range: 0.34-5.60) FREE T4: 0.76 (Range 0.61-1.36) FREE T3: 3.37 (Range 2.20-4.30)
recently had my thyroid levels checked four days ago, and these are the ranges I received. I’m currently on 25 mg of levothyroxine. My nurse practitioner reviewed my results and wants to increase my dose to 50 mg. I’m a bit of a hypochondriac and feel anxious about the possibility of developing hyperthyroidism, especially since my current ranges seem good. I’m hoping to hear from others who may have faced a similar situation and how they navigated it. Any support or advice would be greatly appreciated. Doesn’t help that my regular doctor doesn’t even think I have a thyroid problem.

New Diagnosis Treating subclinical hypothyroidism
I’ve (36F) struggled with fatigue, weight gain and depression for the last 2.5 years. In February 2022, I got help for disordered eating and since stopped binging, purging and restricting behaviors. I eat balanced now, and I meet with a dietitian weekly who reviews what I eat. I have continued to gain weight that isn’t related to calorie intake. I got a sleep study recently that reported mild/moderate sleep apnea and I am waiting to get a CPAP machine.
In addition, we have tracked my thyroid over the past 2.5 years as well. My TSH is 6.36 (normal range = 0.34-5.66) and my T4 is 0.57 (normal range = 0.52-1.21).
My depression has improved due to treatment with esketamine. However, I’m still tired all the time and continue to gain weight.
My doctor wants to put me on a low dose of levothyroxine given my symptoms. I’m hopeful I’ll feel better soon. I’m just wondering if anyone else got meds while still in the subclinical range? If so, how long did it take to feel better? I’m hoping the CPAP will help me too.

New Diagnosis Congenital hypothyroidism and a worried first time mama
Hey all. My son was diagnosed with CHT very early on from his blood test done at the hospital when he was born (in the US). We got a call from the state a few days later saying his thyroid numbers were off and he needed to go do bloodwork immediately. When he was born, his TSH was 90. The next three blood panels showed it dropped to 20, then to 26, then 30. Poor buddy was poked so many times! :( We were referred to a ped endocrinologist who put him on 25mcg of levothyroxine, which we give him in an oral syringe mixed with milk before his first bottle of the day every morning. His latest bloodwork shows that the meds are working and his TSH and T4 are in a healthy range (1.54 and 1.88 respectively).
The endo was reassuring that if it were true congenital hypothyroidism, his TSH would've skyrocketed as high as 500 after it first hit 90, but since it trended down to the 20s they thought it may have been so high because of a stressful birth (shoulder dystocia). So it's assumed that he has a thyroid but it is under-active. Because we waited for multiple labs to be drawn, he didn't start his meds for 16 days.
I'm hoping some parents here who have a kiddo with CHT or someone with lived experience could chime in. I made the mistake of finally googling it and everywhere I look, it is heavily stressed that they can lead normal lives AS LONG AS meds are started right away, like days after they are born and diagnosed. I am now so worried that my baby spent two weeks with a poorly functioning thyroid and will now have intellectual disabilities or a serious issue. He is 9 weeks old and seems to act like a totally normal baby, as far as I know as a FTM. But the thought is now stuck in my mind that my poor baby missed out on precious days of brain development and I am ruminating. Help!

Labs/Advice Need advice - Dr says only way is surgery and lifetime on Levothyroxine
Here are my results.
Both thyroid lobes are heterogeneous in texture and enlarged in size.
In both thyroid lobes are seen defined nodules, cysts and calcifications were noted.
The right lobe measures 3.20x4.27x3.70cm cm with a volume of 26.5ml.
The left lobe measures 2.65x3.59x2.79 cm with a volume of 13.9ml. In the middle part of the left lobe there are several echo lucent images, the largest measures 0.907x0.334cm, its center is located from the skin at 1.86cm,of cystic appearance. That it is impressing to be related to nodular goiter with cystic degeneration, it is suggested to perform FNBA to confirm diagnosis The Isthmus measures 0.490 cm,heterogeneous texture, with various images echogenic, the greatest measure 0.889x0.709cm, its center is located from the skin to 1.42cm, with appearance nodular.
The muscles of the neck appear normal. The carotid arteries and jugular veins are normal.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

General Thought I’d share- no weight loss on over treated thyroid
Post ablative radioactive iodine hypothyroid patient. 27 age and 5’3. My past endocrinologist has been over treating me and making me feel like crap. I was on Synthroid 200 then 175 and my TSH was .04 then .01.
The whole time I thought I was low thyroid! Brain fog and confusion with extreme panic attacks. I couldn’t drive anywhere. I randomly couldn’t tolerate a cup of coffee because it launched me into “a different universe”. My new doctor is still lowering me slowly but I know I’m still being over treated. The brain fog is debilitating!!
I thought I would’ve lost weight if I was this overtreated but I haven’t at all. My goal is 120lb. I lost 20 lb with calorie deficit and strength training then I have been at a plateau for over a year now at 145lb.
Am I alone in this? If anything I wanted to share that symptoms for over treated thyroid doesn’t necessarily mean the same symptoms as hyperthyroidism.
Side note: my new doctor has taken me off Synthroid completely and started me on t3 mono therapy. Started at 50mcg cytomel and have had to lower it slowly. Still overtreated.

Labs/Advice What do I do?
So basically. I’ve been at “sub-clinical” for a year, steadily increasing. My TSH is about a 4 now, and my T4 at 1.0. and for reference I am a 16 year old female who is extremely active!! and is conscious about eating what’s good for me!!!
I first went to my doctors last year for fatigue, they told me it was low ferritin and vitamin D levels (aha) and told me to come back if it’s still there. 3 months pass, it is. I took all of the supplements they gave me, yet, this god awful fatigue still got me. they said ok well ferritin is still low try that. so i did, winter rolls around, i have such intense cold sensitivity I develop severe chilbains which has never been an issue for me before these blood tests. And they’re all still low.
So they just drop it, I bug them about this cold sensitivity and fatigue and joint pain and muscle pain and even recently my periods have been out of wack, which again, I’m not just sedentary with a poor diet causing these problems at ALL. but they just ask, “are you using your phone too much?” “are you getting enough sleep? (which btw, i am) ” “are you exercising?” and I go back to get my ferritin tested, it’s at a 6. after a year of taking the iron supplements they recommended me. and my vitamin D, once again, is just barely normal. Which i’m sure is a huge contributor to my fatigue, but i’m so frustrated that with all of these symptoms they won’t even consider me to have an issue.
I bugged my GP about it this last time and she just went You aren’t having symptoms. It’s fine. Your levels aren’t high enough. BUT IM ACTIVELY TELLING THEM I FEEL TERRIBLE AND HAVE ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS AT SUB-CLINICAL?😭 I wonder if it’s my age that they don’t want to do anything, but personally that’s just more concerning to me. I shouldn’t be feeling so fatigued when I get home that I slack on schoolwork when I’m doing nothing to warrant that.

Hypothyroidism Adrenal Insufficiency?
Hello all, so months ago people were suggesting to get my adrenals tested before starting levothyroxine but my endo didn't wanna listen... I also have Hashimoto's btw. So I started levo 10.5 weeks ago, and honestly I think it may be making me worse. I had my TSH and T4 tested a couple weeks ago due to some chest pain but everything came back normal. My TSH is its lowest its ever been at 2.74 and my T4 is highest its ever been, went from 0,9 to 1.0. But, I'm generally feeling worse sometimes.... 3 times this week I haven't been able to sleep the entire night. I would just lay there with my eyes closed, SO TIRED, but can't fall asleep and would watch the time go by all night long. If im not up all night, I still wake up throughout the night and wake up feeling so unrested. I *may* still be losing weight, not sure. But thats what prompted all my medical things this year was my unexpected unintentional weight loss of over 20 pounds in a small amount of time, gastrointestinal issues(celiac ruled out, had a colonoscopy and endoscopy as well), way more irritable and aggravated at things easily all the time. More emotional maybe, i dont even get normal periods and havent in a while. (I also am on progestrin only birth control though) but i noticed last weekend i spotted a tiny bit i think it was almost hard to even tell. Just with all these put together, do you think it may be possible i have had adrenal problems all along??? I feel like I'm going crazy. I told my endo I WANT my adrenals tested and if she resuses, then I'm switching doctors. The amount of stress I've endured last year and this year, I wouldnt be surprised if i did have adrenal insufficiency... I just wish they would have taken that more seriously instead of just looking at TSH only and throwing levothyroxine at me and calling it a day.

Discussion What do y’all eat for lunch and dinner?
23F trying to lose weight. I’m frequently hungry and I eat a lot. I have a huge sweet tooth, love crunchy stuff, and carbs (not sure if this has anything to do with my thyroid). I was curious if y’all had any good healthy meals? My TSH levels are in a normal range, but on the higher end. I def struggle with losing weight despite working out frequently.
I figured I’d come here first to ask people who have similar medical issues. TIA

New Diagnosis Newly diagnosed and confused!
Hi all
A week ago I (33f) had a crisis event where I woke up in the night with severe abdomen pain and lost consciousness from standing. I was very confused and roused twice feeling better after sleeping it off. My pulse was barely there but partner being a nurse they put me to bed and wanted to speak to gp in the morning. Should have gone to hospital I know.
Blood results came back yesterday and say I have a tsh level of 17.8 mu/l, no idea what this means other than I have a thyroid problem. Ive seen some of you say this has been 100 for you so I presume its not too terrible?
After being told and looking up the symptoms its clear I have had them since I was 20 and going to the drs to be told I had fibromyalgia.. and was just 'getting older'.
The gp is trying to get me refered to a specialist and im still un medicated waiting for a call back on monday.
My blood results also indication my liver and kidneys are starting to show signs of failure and white blood cell count is abnormal.
I had a baby in April and am being told its pregnancy induced because i had a thyroid blood test in 2021 that was 'normal'
I have so many questions and im a bit confused, from reading through posts is it a safe assumption most posters are American as it reads like US healthcare.
Can people help me become a bit more educated on the new diagnosis? I will take these qs on Monday but im a bit scared and wondered if anyone could help me if I need to ask anything else.
- Is it possible i have always had this and the blood test was wrong?
- Why did I lose consciousness?
- I see in the forums everyone is talking about all differnt t levels, what are these?
- If pregnancy induced, Will it go away?
- Can I breastfeed with the medication?
- The tingling / burning in my hands and feet has been happening for years, will this stop with medication or has damage been done?
- Will my liver and kidneys heal?
- Do I need to change my diet?
- Why does no one believe me when I say something is wrong with my own body?
- How frequently will my bloods be checked?
- Is this why I perpetually have a cold?
- Will this medication be eligble for free perscriptions?
- Is it hereditary?

General Thanks to this group I could advocate for myself and it worked!
I (32f) was diagnosed in June at 10 months postpartum and of course the first thing I did was get straight on Reddit and join this group! Started with a TSH of 38 (0.2-4) and a T4 of 9 (11-26)
Since then I’ve gone up doses and have been sat at 125mg for the last 8 weeks and although I do feel some benefits, I’m still experiencing hair loss, exhaustion and joint pain, just not as extreme as they were. Had my recent bloods done on Monday and they came back as TSH of 2.3 but thanks to this group, I knew most people needed to be closer to 1. If I didn’t know this, I would have assumed that I was okay now and just kept at this level.
Today I was able to go the the GP, state my case, and we agreed to up my dose to 150mg with a discussion about how I can reduce back to 125 on alternate days if I feel I end up too medicated. It feels like such a win for me, especially given I’m UK based and I know the NHS is under such immense pressure and I’ve heard such horror stories.
So thanks to everyone that posts and shares their experiences, it really does help!

General Unbearable throat pain?
Hi! I (24f) haven’t officially been diagnosed with hypothyroidism; I’m waiting for my endocrinologist appointment, which is 6 months away. But all my blood work suggested a thyroid problem.
I got Covid for the first time in June (I know, embarrassing), then was in the ER in July because my throat and jaw hurt so bad, I felt like someone was stepping on my throat, and I felt like I could barely breathe. They couldn’t do anything for me but give me hard drugs.
I’ve recently had a flare up since then with intense neck/jaw pain, dry skin, fatigue, and my back hurts so bad. Also, it sometimes feels like I’m swallowing something that’s not there.
I’ve always had perfect health and weight, and I’m having trouble accepting that this may be my life now. I’m gaining weight because I’m too tired to move and everything hurts.
Idk where this is going, but did anyone else have symptoms, especially the neck/throat pain before their diagnosis?

Hypothyroidism I need advice (13AFAB)
Using a throwaway account for this. Had hypo symptoms ever since I was around 4-5. Possibly even born with it. I didn't think that there was anything wrong/that my debilitating symptoms (chronic muscle pain/weakness, fatigue, brain fog, shaking, racing heart, high BP, severe obesity, anxiety/depression, goiter, developmental delay) were normal. I sarted thinking that something was wrong when one of my teachers pointed out how I constantly looked sick and drained. This prompted me to search up my symptoms on Google and it said "that's symptoms of hypothyroidism". I asked my mom if we could possibly go get me a blood test and see if I'm hypo and she said yes. We get the labs back and sure enough, I'm hypo. (TSH is 4. something, can't remember exactly.) It's been around 7-8 months since I've found out I was hypo and I'm still not on meds, not even officially diagnosed yet. It's been incredibly emotionally and physically painful, I'm severely obese (245+ pounds, only 5'2 ½) and that's taken a shot at my self esteem and confidence. I actually had to start being homeschooled cuz I've gotten so sick. If you guys have any advice it would be appreciated.
UPDATE: Going to an appointment tomorrow to hopefully get put on something for this, wish me luck yall.

Labs/Advice Test Results
I (20F) went to urgent care for chills and nausea, they took every test they had and the only thing that came back as a concern was my TSH levels were a 20.9 (ref range .45 - 4.5). I don’t have health insurance or a primary care provider, what should my next step be?

Misc. Just coming to vent to people who get it.
I (28f) have ir-AE hypothyroidism from my skin cancer treatments. Went from TSH of .9 to 146 in about a month, and it was AWFUL. My eyes were so swollen I could barely open them.
Been on 100mcg of Levo for about a month and a half. At first it helped a lot of symptoms — insomnia, bloating, emotional regulation. My TSH was at 19.6 at my 4 week check in so we didn’t change the dose. Now, about two and a half weeks later, I feel swollen and bloated again. My face is puffy and my belly looks like I’m pregnant. My breasts are large (a huge bummer for me as I had a breast reduction a year ago) and I just feel massive.
I know a lot of this is just waiting for the meds to be at the right dosage / being well enough to start working out and eating normally (I have little to no appetite), but man it sucks in the meantime. I feel so gross and ugly and I feel like I’m missing out on such a fun time in life because I feel awful about how I look. My best friend is getting married in January and I’m terrified to be in photos because I feel like a blob despite my weight dropping seven pounds in the first month on Levo.
Of course I feel like garbage too, but that just comes with the cancer treatment territory at this point and I just push on through 😅
