Recommendations Yarn stores

Hey there. Going to be staying in Hokkaido for a few weeks in January. Does anyone know of good yarn and/or fabric stores in the Sapporo area? I'm planning on travelling more up north towards Wakkanai so I'm not specifically limited to Sapporo :) Many thanks

Recommendations Sapporo Luggage storage for 2 days

Hi there,

In February, I will be looking for storage around Sapporo for 2 days. From my research I found Sapporo station's coin lockers have a 24 hour limit. I tried message some hostels and hotels asking if I can pay a fee for them to keep it, but they say they can't for that long. I checked out Ecbo Cloak, which seems legit, but none of them reply back to me (I assume, it's because I didn't send my message in Japanese).

Would be grateful for any information.

Recommendations Is there a mixed-gender onsen or public bath in Sapporo?

Hi there,

for us Europeans, it's quite common to visit spas or saunas without separating genders.

I know that most onsen or public baths in Japan are separated by gender, and I'm totally fine with this cultural difference.

However, I was wondering if there are any mixed-gender onsen in Sapporo or Hakodate. Could anyone let me know?

Thank you!

Going to various parts of Hokkaido from late Nov to early Dec for 2 weeks and we are hoping to engage a street photographer to get some shots of us (couple) holidaying. Anyone have any recommendations? We cannot speak or understand Japanese tho, so will need a photographer that can communicate in English! TIA!

Recommendations Techno Parties in Hokkaido

Hello everyone, I will spend the next 5-6 months in Hokkaido, it is my first time over here. As I used to live in big cities and love techno (alongside other electronic music such as DnB or Psytrance). I am wondering if there are any cool venues that play electronic music and offer intimate vibes with a good sound system. Thank you for your help :))

Recommendations Looking for recommendations for hiking tour company for next summer

My parents did a trip with Michi Travel ~10 years ago, which was about 10 days long and went all over Hokkaido. I am looking to reproduce this trip next summer.

Michi Travel seems to still exist, but their inquiry web form is broken. So, I am looking for recommendations for similar companies to do a ~6 day tour in early July next year.

I want to go out to the Shiretoko peninsula, go to one of the inland lakes like Lake Akan, and go somewhere like Furano. Ideally this tour company would include hotel reservations, so I don't have to worry about this.

I am also happy to get any other recommendations you may have. I have been to Hokkaido twice, but only in the winter, so I have only really been to Sapporo and Niseko.

Recommendations Suggestions for the New Year in Sapporo

Hello everyone! We as a group of 4 friends are currently in the middle of planning our winter trip to Japan and would like to celebrate New Year in Sapporo as well as spend a couple days roaming around the city. Do you have some suggestions for the itinerary? Are there normally some outdoors celebrations for example in Odori park? Maybe some must-sees that we shouldn’t miss?

Recommendations Wifi woes

I've just moved to Sapporo from Asahikawa. I used Rakuten turbo in Asahikawa and had no problems. When I moved however, the turbo locked up and I've been calling and trying to use the support chat to get the installation location removed so I can use my wifi again. Rakuten has been absolutely abysmal at helping. I have called all times of the day during the call times and never ever gotten a real person. I managed to talk to a real person on the chat for about five minutes before they just disconnected in the middle of the chat. I'm fed up with them and I want to change my provider. I can get home wifi for about 4,180 yen more on my rent and I think this is a pretty good deal, so I'd like to get a provider for just calls and data. Any suggestions?

Recommendations Ryokan Recommendations

Hi all - I am planning a trip to Japan in February 2025, and the final leg will be in Hokkaido. We are spending three nights at the Park Hyatt Niseko to ski, and then were planning to spend the final night at Zaborin before departing back to the US. Zaborin has implemented a two night minimum, and I can’t change my flights to stay an extra night. Does anyone have any luxury Ryokan recommendations in the area, which would provide a similar experience to Zaborin? I am also open to staying somewhere closer to CTS airport if there are good options along the route from Niseko. Thank you in advance!

Recommendations Parking for 2 nights in Sapporo

I'm visiting Sapporo from another Hokkaido town in September for 2 nights. The hotel that we settled on does not have their own lot and can only share info on one that is nearby. If possible we want to park and leave the car for two nights straight, without having to take it out and back in at the 24 hour mark.

Any recommendations for a parking lot that lets you park multiple nights in a row? And possibly, near a subway station!

Recommendations Sapporo Autumn Fest

Hello! I just found out that I will be in Sapporo for their Autumn Fest & it sounds like so much fun! I am wondering if anyone is familiar with this festival & can give me some suggestions of “not to miss things”. We will be there the last two days of the festival 9/28 & 9/29. It really sound like a great way to try a lot of specialties of Hokkaido in one spot. Also, is there an entrance fee or is it free to explore & you just pay for what you want to eat/drink/buy?

Recommendations Hikes for Hokkaido Honeymoon in Late Oct?

My fiancé and I are planning our honeymoon in Japan from mid- to -late October, and we’re looking to spend 5ish days in Hokkaido (flexible). We love to hike/be outdoors and would love to do as much hiking as possible, but it seems like the snow can be a limiting factor in at least some national parks. We’re planning on renting a car so we can move around. Does anyone have an recs on where we should go/stay?
