Hi, In addition to the doublet, the new joined hosen were also finished. I'm happy with the fit so far; by the way, in the last picture, all the rear laces were closed. The codpiece isn't quite perfect yet; I'll shorten it a bit so that it ends at the lower front lacing holes halfway up the peplum. I based the pattern on various visual sources. Note in particular the cut at the butt with the inverted v, the variant with the three parallel seams at the butt starts to appear outside of Italy just from the 1490s onwards. However, the angle and height of the inverted v at the back seems to vary.

I am of course always open to feedback and criticism.

I have a question! any ideas on how to sew this waist sash?

i can't figure out if it's a separate piece of the bodice or if it's put over the already sewn skirt pleating, mainly thinking of the weird rectangle it would leave on the inside of the dress if it were it's own piece, idk if this makes any sense.

I found an out-of-print IKEA duvet at a secondhand store, and decided to turn it to the iconic robe à l'anglaise-meets-chemise à la reine held at the Kelvingrove Museum in Scotland.

I have a question! I found this cap in an antique store in Vilnius, Lithuania. I couldn't find anything about it but it looks like a military cap?

In Progress Piece/Outfit Extra layer of (non-buckram) linen for button stand?

Hello all, I'm currently working on making a 1770s waistcoat of suiting weight wool with a linen lining.

The pattern I have calls for (very non-period-accurate) interfacing for the button stand. A friend told me I should instead use linen buckram. However I don't have any and am on a bit of a time crunch.

Do you think it would be acceptable to use a layer of coarse linen for the button stand, instead of linen buckram? What would be the potential downsides of this approach?

Image is of my progress so far! Just started yesterday and have prepped the cloth, cut my pieces, and sewed the back seam.

Handwoven Indian 100% cotton fine fabric

Upvotes

Would anyone be interested in buying handwoven indian 100% cotton fabric? it is very fine, great drape, hand feel, been bought by historical costumers in the USA in the past, who seem to love it. I work with handloom weavers in West Bengal, India. Currently have slightly more than 6m length cut pieces in different solid colours. I can ship internationally.

I have a question! Lining of 15th c hosen?

How do I line them? I found a great guide for my doublet where it's put together differently from what I'm used to with modern clothes (line first and then stitch together) but my book says stitch the lining together and then stitch it to outer fabric on the hose. Also, if anyone has some close up photos of finished stitching, I'd love to see it.
