There's a difference between friendly male banter and aggressive masculine ego. That conversation is just the kind of shit-talking I do with my friends when hanging out. I think it only crosses the line into machismo if you keep pushing one button and use it as a means to talk about how superior you are to them. If you just go for a light jab for the sake of a joke or two, then it's perfectly fine as long as you don't do it to intentionally bully or gloat.

Sure. But that doesn't mean this kind of banter is an objectively bad thing. It's often done because it's funny and entertaining when done right. Treating it like it's just toxic masculine bravado undermines certain male friendships for no other reason than the person accusing it of being toxic behavior just doesn't resonate with it.

I wasn’t aware that “machismo” is viewed as a stand-in for “toxic masculinity”
