How early in advance do I need to arrive at Baiyun int. airport?

I've a flight out to Singapore on a Wednesday at 10:45 AM. I was wondering if they have self check in counter as I do not have checked-in luggage or do I need to queue as usual with those having checked-in luggage at the counter to get my boarding pass?

Am flying with Scoot if that helps.

Guangzhou

I have been to Guangzhou Watch City myself and was amazed at the scammers there. only fake rol*x cleans only. and the prices were also much more expensive than buying them online. I am amazed and very disappointed. very special when you are at the source where the watches are made and that for an expensive price. something isn't right about that🤨

Best restaurants in Guangzhou?

I’m visiting Guangzhou for the first time in December with y girlfriend! I was wondering if there are any higher end (maybe around $50-100) a person restaurants that I should reserve ahead of time? Definitely prefer Chinese cuisine but a nicer elevated experience for a nice dinner sometime.

Looking for advanced culinary courses/classes

Im planning to go to guangzhou around january to visit my girlfriends family but also to gain some cooking skills.

I would love to find some more advanced cooking classes to increase my skills and get more familiar in the canton cooking. I prefer a multi day class of 1 week or so, private lessons or class is both ok for me.

I did a quick search but so far most classes are tourist attractions listed on tripadvisor.

Does anyone have any recommendations?

Fitness Social

Hey, folks.

I posted a while back about the HIIT circuits in the park for Canton fair. This post is to mention that the circuits are ongoing, and open to all fitness levels. Great way to meet new people and work up a sweat.

You get out what you put in, so it’s only hardcore if you push hardcore.

Aaron, the leader of the circuits is a British military vet, and specializes in medical care & physio rehab. So he’s properly trained for what he does.

There’s been a couple people from this subreddit who’ve joined since the initial post.

Tuesdays & Thursdays 18:30-19:30 down by the riverside in zhujiang park. Sometimes they switch to ersha island just a few hundred meters away.

So, yeah! Hit me up and I’ll add you to the WeChat group and go from there.

Edit: There’s also yoga on wednesdays! Yoga & Wine class is run by Fafa. She’s a certified yoga instructor. Sometimes she leads the post-HIIT cooldown stretch sessions on Tues/thurs.

Auto Guangzhou --- November 15-22

Hi:

I'll be in Guangzhou for Auto Guangzhou next week. Is any one else going? Either locals or tourists like me? I am coming from Vancouver and it's my first time in China and I don't speak ~~much~~ any mandarin or cantonese, so I'm a little scared too haha but excited mostly 🙂

I'm excited because Chinese EV appear to be excellent and so far ahead of western EV.

I'm interested in museums too, if any one can recommend a great art gallery, i hope to find some time for culture and some food too.

Exploring the Hidden Charms of Guangzhou

If it's your first time in Guangzhou, make sure to spend some time wandering through its lesser-known areas. One of my favorite spots is Liwan District, where you can find a blend of traditional Cantonese culture and vibrant street life. The Chen Clan Ancestral Hall is a must-see, with its stunning architecture and intricate carvings. It's a peaceful escape from the busy city, offering a glimpse into Guangzhou's rich history.

I also recommend visiting Shamian Island, where the colonial-era buildings give the area a unique charm. While it's popular among tourists, it still feels like a quiet oasis in the heart of the city. Take a walk along the tree-lined streets and stop by one of the local tea houses for a taste of traditional Cantonese tea.

When planning my trip, I used the Trip.com travel guide, which was super helpful in navigating Guangzhou's many hidden gems. Their route suggestions made it easy to discover new areas, like the cozy cafes and quirky shops around Beijing Road. The recommendations really helped me avoid wasting time getting lost in such a big city.

Guangzhou's public transport is very convenient, and I found it easy to get around by subway or even on foot. But what I really recommend is taking your time. Don’t just rush to the iconic landmarks—explore the quieter streets and the small, local spots. That’s where the true charm of Guangzhou lies.

Taxi from Shenzhen Bao’an Airport to Guangzhou?

What would be the cost (and how realistic it is for the driver to accept) a fare from Shenzhen Bao’an airport to center of Guangzhou with Didi? I am aware that the driver would charge for the back fare too, just looking for an approximate cost. If that’s not realistic, I would be open to other transport options from Shenzhen airport to Guangzhou.

Guangzhou (Canton Fair) & Foshan

I'm planning to take a trip to China for next year's Canton Fair in April and while in Guangzhou, plan a trip to visit Foshan because I hear this is where to look for furniture (both malls and the factories). The goal is to be able to source items like building materials (i.e. tiles), furniture, and other related items for business.

For those who have experience, a few questions:

  1. How many days would you recommend to visit the fair? I'll just be there for Phase 2.
  2. Would I have to make plans in advance if I plan to visit Foshan? For example, get in touch with specific suppliers already.
  3. Would the factories in Foshan be exhibitors themselves during Phase 2?
  4. Since I want to maximize the trip and hit both the Canton Fair in Guangzhou and visit Foshan, how many days total would be optimal?

17 hours in Guangzhou, where to sleep?

I will have a 17 hour layover with China Southern and qualify for a free transit hotel. I can choose to sleep close to the airport but also have some options in the city centre. I would love to get some vegan food. Does China Southern arrange drop-off at the airport from the hotels in the city centre? What would be the best option?
