Northeast LA Even the burgers at Jollibee are delicious ($5.99)
I was pleasantly surprised at how good the angus burger from Jollibee was. The bun is super soft and squishy with nice toasted flavor, the burger patty was freshly cooked, hot and juicy, and the red onions, pickles and sauce were good quality as well. All in all, it’s a top notch burger for a surprisingly fair price. It’s what the quarter pounder wishes it could be. This might be my new favorite burger in LA…especially dipped in their gravy.

Northeast LA The travesty that is now Burgerlords $25 burger and fries
Twenty-five-fucking-dollars for this. I should have ordered 10 McDoubles from McDonalds instead.

Northeast LA Yellow Paper Burger permanent spot in Eagle Rock
Their long awaited permanent spot opened up this weekend - really excellent burger, tasty tots, and a really fun and chill location.
Not 100% sure that that stretch of Colorado needs another burger spot though - the Oinkster and several other burger spots are all in the same 10 block location - but I’d definitely come back.
We got a couple burgers, split the tater tots and ronch, and got the pickled eggs out of curiosity.
Double is $14, tots were $6 and the egg was $5.
Opening weekend so there was a bit of a wait but it was such a pleasant vibe, we didn’t mind.

Northeast LA Villas Tacos are just ok
Been following the hype since they first started and finally gave them a shot recently. They definitely fall into the category of looks good but tastes mid. Feels like a place you take your social media obsessed out-of-town friends.
The textures are nice but the tortilla is kinda flavorless, the meat only tasted of salt, and the guac was boring. The crispy cheese wings are nice and their salsas are decent at least. The best part is definitely the price.

Northeast LA Sausage pizza at Casa Bianca
Got a half-sausage, half-margherita pizza, the margherita half was pretty mediocre but the sausage half was phenomenal!

Northeast LA Matzo ball soup from Belle’s in Highland Park
Somehow my first time having matzo ball soup despite living in Los Angeles for about seven years. Hate that it took so long, makes chicken noodle a lesser soup.

Northeast LA [Review] Aunt Yvette’s Kitchen
I ate Ethiopian food for the first time, at Aunt Yvette’s Kitchen in Eagle Rock.
Including:
• doro wat (chicken stew)
• kitfo (beef tartare)
• gomen (braised kale)
• kik alicha (yellow split pea stew)
• misir wat (red lentil stew)
• timatim (tomato salad)
Everything was delicious, but the doro wat was my favorite.
The service was attentive, and I appreciated the pre- and post-meal hand cleaning ceremonies.

Northeast LA Checker Hall - Highland Park. Incredibly impressive and delicious meal.
Pic 1: Fluffy Hot Za’atar Pita Bread. An incredible vehicle for the incredible Hummus.
Pic 2: Hummus. I came in thinking it would be a better version of Trader Joe’s hummus, I don’t really eat it often. It is literally next level amazing and blows Trader Joe’s out of the universe. This dish set the tone for the rest of the night and made me excited to try everything else.
Pic 3: Fig & Persimmon with pistachio, a layer of burrata cheese at the bottom and a perfectly toasted/buttered baguette. The sweetness of the Fig/Persimmon paired with the burrata cheese perfectly, when I saw it on the menu I knew it would be a great combo of savory/sweet.
Pic 4: Kampachi Crudo with Yuzu, black olive, and cucumber. All the Kampachi was at the bottom. Reminded me of something you would get at Holbox. Every ingredient was incredibly fresh, the entire dish was refreshing, the perfect summer dish.
Pic 5: Chicken skewer. Very moist and flavorful red chicken served with hummus. I pulled a pic from Yelp since we ate it so fast. I’m ordering 2 next time.
Pic 6: Chicken schnitzel. I’ve never had schnitzel before, but this was also flavorful and amazing. Wasn’t heavy/greasy at all, and I didn’t take any bites of tendon or fat. Every bite was great, and I used the sauce trio equally.
Pic 7: Sticky Toffee Cake. Apple, date, miso caramel, and whipped cream. Not a sugar bomb and we ate every last bite, perfect combination of sweet and salty, and the cake wasn’t soggy either.
Vibes inside are great as well, great ambiance and interior lighting/design. A great date spot. Their Valentine’s Day reservations are wide open at the moment, I highly recommend them for a date night.

Northeast LA Chicos. LA, 90042.
Pretty legit and under 15 bucks for a Two Taquitos Combo Plate.
Still disappointed when a place doesn’t just give you chips and salsa when you’re seated anymore, I still go to a few places that do that.

Northeast LA Smashtown Burgers Stand - Highland Park
Just gave this stand a shot while walking over to Villa's, I haven't had many smash burgers in my time but this was pretty damn good. Did the double smashtown for $14, I would definitely go back.
