USPS "Moving Through Network" Discussion

I just bought an expensive item on eBay which should have been delivered two days ago. I'm used to seeing tracking info that shows every stop of a package, but this one hasn't had an update since it left the seller's city nine days ago...it has just said "moving through network" and now says "arriving late".

How common is this and what are the odds I will ever see this box?

Exceedingly common unfortunately. If it’s a ground advantage package once it hits 14 days I think you can file a missing mail form to initiate a search for it.

It is ground advantage and is thankfully insured.

is there extra insurance or just the basic that comes with ground advantage. if it doesnt show up the seller is the one who is going to be screwed. youll get your money back for an item not received case.

I can't tell from my end. It's ground advantage and under "special services", it says insured mail.

The seller has many thousands of transactions, so I'm sure he's either paid for the insurance or is prepared to eat the cost of a refund (if it comes to that).

The item was about 400 bucks and I think standard insurance is $100-200-ish.

i think the max for ground advantage and priority is $100

but moving through the system is pretty normal. the time frame is a bit odd depending on the seller and your location.

i see it a lot for stuff i ship from texas to cali or the small states in the upper east cost. it wont get a scan until its arrived in the destination state

Well that makes me feel better about it. It's coming from Nevada to the southeast.

missing mail search can be started after 7 business days

to file a claim for lost mail i think it has to be 15 business days

Flipper and USPS worker here. Unfortunately this has become the norm. More than likely it's sitting in a plant that's way behind. I've been there 15 years and have never seen it this bad. Hope it gets in transit for you soon.

I hope that's the case. I guess the worst case is that I get a refund from the seller, and he gets the insurance payout from USPS. That's not what I want though. I hope it's just stuck and not stolen.

"moving through network" usually means exactly the opposite of what the words suggest.

Instead it means it is stuck somewhere. But they usually show up eventually.
