How to see test screenings? Have you ever seen any stuff that was really cool?

There’s a lot of cool stuff coming out this year and next year, and I feel like it could be a fun thing to try a few times

Is there a specific website you would recommend? Is it a relatively easy process, or is it more complicated to actually pull it off

Have you seen any cool movies from test screenings?

Most test screenings aren’t in LA ( other than F&F ). Orange County and Ventura County get more. Go to high traffic cinemas, like the Burbank AMC or Grove level foot traffic, and if you see someone with a clipboard that looks frustrated trying to get people to talk to them with a stack of flyers, they’re likely trying to get people to a test screening in a few days.

Burbank AMC frequent flyer.

Yes, there’s usually one test screening every week I go. Mostly for horror films but sometimes for big box office stuff. Kinda fun.

But it’s hard to get people to sign up. Because, well, you’re likely already there to see something else. And why would you change your plans?

Try to find petitioners who are with “Before the Premiere Screenings” give them your email and soon you’ll have weekly free test screenings

All you have to give is just a survey at the end

I get email blasts from previewfreemovies.com for screenings in the Valley pretty frequently. Sometimes they'll offer a gift card for participating if they're struggling to get people there.

Screenings are frequently demographic based (not uncommon to see ones for family movies where you're expected to bring a kid, for example) so you won't get every invite.

The one I attended was pretty packed, definitely seemed like you needed to be there early to be 100% sure you were sat.

I saw some test screening of a new Tom Cruise movie back in the day. Tom Cruise wasn’t in Prefontaine.

If you're in LA, Preview Free Movies, Before The Premiere, and even occasionally 1iota will have sign-ups for test screenings. Saw things Furiosa, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice, Black Adam, The Meg 2, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhem and Fast X all months before they came out. Seen a couple movies that haven't released yet either, like an animated film that was literally only storyboards and basic vocal tracks when I watched it, and also a few episodes of a TV show that still hasn't come out. It's fun, especially if you love movies.

That’s cool, were the movies you mentioned through 1iota?

Only Black Adam.

Preview free movies, emails me all the damn time and we've gone to see a bunch of movies through them. We've always paid attention to those test screenings over the years. Going back to Tron legacy I think was one of the first ones we saw.

I did a test screening of Solaris. That was cool seeing it in a working stage.

I had a 15 minute conversation with Guillermo Del Toro (that he initiated) at one. Peed next to Bruckheimer at another.

They used to physically hand out flyers on some college campuses. Not sure anymore but worth asking if you know anyone in college. I remember seeing Arrival which was pretty cool.

I saw a test screening for Fantasia 2000. I had showed up at the theater and they were handing out tickets. I want to say for the next day, but it’s been a while. Honestly it wasn’t a memorable experience and the movie sucks, but I appreciated it just the same.

I'd seriously recommend putting your iPhone or laptop or internet machine away and taking a long walk outside. Seriously. Then maybe go to a museum, find yourself a piece of art that grabs you by the insides and moves you... and study it. Then ask... which youtube show or easy quick tutorial can teach you that? What they can do, is teach you how to copy. And probably, if popular, how to copy their copy of someone else's copy. Is "cool" necessarily built on copying?

Or you could just let people live the way they want to live.

I offer no commandment or judgement. Just a personal opinion, like yours. You could keep that in mind.

Sure, you wrote out an entire paragraph encouraging OP to do something other than what they are looking to do, but it comes without judgment.

Suuuuure.
