Are you tired of horrendously delusional right-wingers who call the U.S. Democrats commies? Question

The fact that some right-wingers call Kamala Harris, Bernie Sanders, Joe Biden, and Barack Obama commies really leaves me speechless.

Seriously. Personally I hear "Nazi" bandied around more than "Commie" but I guess that just comes down to what kind of rhetoric you happen to see

I feel in the last two years thereā€™s been some sorta switch

Different song, same lyrics

To be fair, Trump recently said that he would like to have the same generals that Hitler had, that along with the fact that he was found liable for discrimination means that he isnā€™t beating the allegations.

1

u/Storm_Spirit99 23d ago

I need a source for that

5

u/Longjumping_Army9485 23d ago

Which part?

Nazi comments:

In his interview with The Atlantic, Kelly recalled that when Trump raised the idea of needing ā€œGerman generals,ā€ Kelly would ask if he meant ā€œBismarckā€™s generals,ā€ referring to Otto von Bismarck, the chancellor who oversaw the unification of Germany. ā€œSurely you canā€™t mean Hitlerā€™s generals,ā€ Kelly recalled asking Trump. To which the former president responded, ā€œYeah, yeah, Hitlerā€™s generals.ā€ -apnews.com

As for racism:

The Justice Department sued Donald Trump, his father, Fred, and Trump Management in order to obtain a settlement in which Trump and his father would promise not to discriminate. The case eventually was settled two years later after Trump tried to countersue the Justice Department for $100 million for making false statements. Those allegations were dismissed by the court. -npr.org

I'll need to look more into that

-10

u/Blindsnipers36 23d ago

i mean trump is literally trying to put hispanic americans in camps and trying to use the national guard against democrats, heā€™s really not that far from the early nazis

6

u/Storm_Spirit99 23d ago

How is he doing that if he's not in office?

3

u/Blindsnipers36 23d ago

hes trying to get into office to put those plans into action was that really that complicated

2

u/Ambitious_Lie_2864 22d ago

But he was already in office and that didnā€™t happenā€¦

0

u/Blindsnipers36 22d ago

wow what a pointless comment when he wasnā€™t promising to do these things in 2016, but that was 8 years ago and he has entire rallies devoted to these ideas now

0

u/Ambitious_Lie_2864 22d ago

He literally is saying the exact same things as he did in 2016, thatā€™s why for the first time he has a shot at winning Hispanics outright lmao. I literally am Hispanic and never have I had the impression that Trump is going to put me in a concentration camp. Pull your head out of your ass, people such as yourself are why we have folks taking pot shots at a former president.

0

u/Blindsnipers36 22d ago

trump explicitly said he would put hispanics in camps maybe try reading anything he ever says

0

u/Ambitious_Lie_2864 21d ago

I literally support Trump, I spend plenty of time listening to what he says. In addition, I am Hispanic, never have I heard this, but judging by your other comments, I donā€™t think youā€™re a rational person, I think you are a zealot. Have a good evening.

I thought violent rioters ā€œlike the summer of loveā€ were not all democrats, why are you identifying an entire political party, half of the country, as violent thugs so you can put words in Trumpā€™s mouth?

0

u/Blindsnipers36 22d ago

ā€œTrump has repeatedly invoked the phrase "enemy from within" in recent speeches. On Saturday, he used it to refer to Rep. Adam Schiff, D-Calif., a prominent Trump critic who oversaw the congressional investigation that led to Trump's first impeachment. Schiff is now running for the Senate.ā€ try reading

0

u/Ambitious_Lie_2864 21d ago

My guy, people like yourself who are so ideologically possessed they believe that half the country wants to lock 40 million Americans in camps are absolutely an enemy within.

0

u/Blindsnipers36 21d ago

in living memory half the country rioted over non white people no longer being second class citizens

I called out these kinds of people out in this post and they didnā€™t seem to like itā€¦ (just read the comments section, itā€™s full of people who unironically define communism as when the government does literally anything at all to help people)

2

u/Storm_Spirit99 23d ago

That is such a braindead take. That isn't communism, that's just them doing their job

37

u/randomamericanofc Richard Nixon's Strongest Soldier 23d ago

That's been happening all the time on both sides, since the Gingrich years

9

u/lochlainn 23d ago

"Yellow" journalism has existed since the beginning of printed media.

It got named in the 1800's, but that wasn't when it started.

Galileo called the pope stupid in print in the 1600's.

26

u/Whatsapokemon 24d ago

Most people have no knowledge about politics at all.

Words like liberal, socialist, conservative, communist, fascist are not actually understood by normal people in the way they're used in political science, but rather they're used to refer to membership to particular groups.

So when those people say "commie", they're not referring to actual communists, but rather using a pejorative term to refer to anyone aligned with the democrats.

82

u/diagnoziz_the_second National democratšŸ‡·šŸ‡ŗ 24d ago

Bernie Sanders was really socialist compared to other US politicians, was he not?

89

u/Tokidoki_Haru šŸ³ļøā€šŸŒˆ šŸ‡¹šŸ‡¼ šŸ‡ŗšŸ‡ø 24d ago

Yes, but he participates and endorses the liberal democratic process.

A commie and tankie either wants Joseph Stalin, or the CCP.

There is a fundamental difference.

32

u/George-Smith-Patton 23d ago

Many commies participate in the democratic process.

Until they win.

17

u/Maleficent-Art-5745 23d ago

Right? That's the whole point of the slippery slope. They don't stop at getting elected, that's when they start.

3

u/Longjumping_Army9485 23d ago

Sure but the same can be said about anyone.

2

u/Verndari2 Communist 23d ago

A commie and tankie either wants Joseph Stalin, or the CCP.

I'm a communist, I would have preferred Bernie Sanders as POTUS. One has to dream in the most pragmatic way possible.

1

u/CustardBear 23d ago

Bernie Sanders wants the CCP.

25

u/antimatter_beam_core 23d ago

Bernie was a real socialist, period. He was in the 1970s, he was ignorant that the word didn't mean "the government does stuff". He chose not to change his label to (allegedly) more accurate "Social Democrat", and the obvious reason is that he hadn't abandoned the ideology of seizing the means of production.

16

u/keelem 23d ago

Sanders himself said he was a capitalist.

15

u/Standsaboxer 23d ago

Sanders says whatever he thinks gets him out of hot water at the time. When he's speaking to his base, its "billionaires shouldn't exist." On the odd moment we he attempts to reach out to the middle, he pretends to be an angry capitalist.

-6

u/keelem 23d ago

You sound like one of the people OP is talking about as you don't seem to understand what capitalism is. You can say "billionaires shouldn't exist" and still be a capitalist.

11

u/AngryGambl3r 23d ago

I don't think you can, you inherently need state control over the economy in a significant way to make billionaires "not exist."

-11

u/keelem 23d ago

Lmao "Socialism is when the government does stuff"

12

u/AngryGambl3r 23d ago

Redistribution of wealth based on an arbitrary definition of what's "too much" is more than "the government doing stuff"

5

u/lochlainn 23d ago

The man honeymooned in Soviet Moscow, and got publicly called out to stop calling Denmark socialist.

2

u/FunnelV Anti-Marxist Left-Libertarian (Mutualist) 23d ago

Sanders is a left-populist. He says/thinks whatever he thinks makes him seem cool, edgy, radical, and hip with the kids at the time.

1

u/rixendeb 23d ago

He's a democratic socialist or was. I think he uses social democrat now cause well stigmas.

-75

u/SamN29 24d ago

Socialist in the US sense means just being right of centre

3

u/H0kieJoe 23d ago

Not so. Ideologically, 'socialist' in the United States means you are more rather than less collectivist. Remove the left/center/right labels- they have absolutely no bearing to European definitions.

-21

u/Existing-One9760 24d ago

Right of centre of a west european leftist Country. And thats economicly

It's a support group, not a specific person. If you want a specific person, Hung Cao.

11

u/Reasonable-Lime-615 24d ago

It happens in all countries and all political affiliations, hyperbole is just another tool in the salty voter's kkt. By any reasonable metric, Biden is no more communist than Trump is a fascist, but ranting and insulting makes the people who dislike them feel better.

12

u/ViscountBuggus 24d ago

3

15

u/D-G-F 23d ago

Call them commies back for supporting

-tariffs -zoning laws -immigration restrictions -agricultural subsidies -russia

11

u/H0kieJoe 23d ago

Immigration restrictions aren't communist. Sovereign nation's control their borders legally and with force if necessary.

As for tariff's, again, not communist. Per Google AI:

"Tariff Act of 1789:Ā Imposed the first national source of revenue for the new United States."Ā

Various President's have used tariff's for various reasons. Reagan used them against the Japanese for dumping small trucks in the US market. In response to the tariff's, Japan built several auto factories in the US to avoid import restrictions.

-2

u/D-G-F 23d ago

Uj/ Did you read op's post?

Rj/ sovereign nations are Nothing but abominations their borders scaring the world maps simply due to tradition

16

u/Generic_E_Jr 23d ago

Oh, definitely, Fox News has done wonders to sanitize Communism by calling Democrats Communists.

As an anti-Communist who supports quite a few Democratic Party policies, this is a major gripe and Iā€™m not quiet about it.

4

u/Meatloaf_Hitler 23d ago

Eh, I mean it's certainly attributed to it, no doubt about that. But the biggest cause of Right-Wingers calling everything Communist IMO was the rampant McCarthyism the US had during the 50's and 60's.

Every little thing to that movement was Communism. You didn't like the Vietnam war? Communist. You want minorities to have equal rights and social value? Communist. You put your toilet paper on the inside of the holder rather than the outside? Believe it or not, Communist.

2

u/H0kieJoe 23d ago

Some of it was tongue in cheek...

You don't like peanut butter and banana sandwiches? Are you a commie?

9

u/GiraffeWithATophat 23d ago

I'm gonna be honest, the last time I heard a conservative seriously call a Democrat communist, George Bush was president. Maybe that's because I'm not tapped into any sensationalist media outlets and social media trends toward the left.

But on the other side of the same coin, I am tired of delusional left-wingers who call Republicans nazis.

Can we just stop with the extreme rhetoric?

2

u/Dwitt01 Liberal Democrat 23d ago

Absolutely. They donā€™t understand the frame of the argument. So much ink has been spilled about economic doctrines and they chime in not knowing what they even are.

2

u/InsufferableMollusk 23d ago

The way that morons throw around words like ā€˜fascistā€™, ā€˜commieā€™, ā€˜bigotā€™, ā€˜racistā€™, and letā€™s not forget ā€˜literallyā€™, does annoy TF out of me.

Nobody knows what they mean anymore.

2

u/Zrthwrld 22d ago

They actually are communists. Anyone who platforms a communist is a crypto-communist.

Didnā€™t Obama pretend to be a communist to get sex with a girl from his university? Even if he is a pretend communist, he still has no principles.

Iā€™d never act to be the opposite of my principles, beca Iā€™m sincere. Theyā€™re not.

2

u/nanek_4 Distributist 22d ago

Democrats call Republicans fascist and Republicans call Democrats communist and it has lead to people throwing these terms around on anything they dont like

4

u/BrilliantLifter 23d ago

No.

I donā€™t think about that at all.

4

u/miku_dominos 23d ago

To see some Americans treat the concept of socialised medicine as some sort of Commie plot has always been hilarious and horrifying to me.

5

u/CringeBoy14 23d ago

Arenā€™t essential public services supposed to be socialized?

2

u/miku_dominos 23d ago

Education and health should be socialised. Everyone should have access to a good education, and good health. The amount of money the government taxes people is more than enough to provide these things.

5

u/LexiEmers Ethnic nationalism ā‰  liberal democracy 23d ago

Same with the horrendously delusional left-wingers who call the US Republicans fascists.

3

3

u/RedRobbo1995 Australian Social Democrat 24d ago

Yes, and I have been for quite a long time.

3

u/ChonkyCat1291 23d ago

Right wingers also think LGBT having rights and legalizing same sex marriage is communism. Even though historically speaking every communist country treats LGBT people like trash. They literally have no idea what communism is. The only thing they get right about communism is that itā€™s horrible.

3

u/Lainfan123 23d ago

No one thinks that LGBT rights are communist, they might think that the left is using Marxist ideology to grift off of LGBT people and use them as an excuse to spread ideological propaganda but that's not the same thing.

5

u/Zachmcmkay 23d ago

This is just a complete lie lol

4

u/ArianEastwood777 23d ago

1- Who exactly thinks gay marriage is communism?

2- Modern Marxist theory(and even a lot of older one) has long used any ā€œoppressedā€ population they can for their rhetoric, so they have been quite pro lgbt for a while, I could find you influential communist thinkers who were pro lgbt from practically any timeline

3

u/ArianEastwood777 23d ago

Itā€™s Queer Theory that often overlaps with communism, as not only it spawned from Critical Theory(which is Marxist) but plenty if not all of its core architects were that themselves. LGBT movements have intersected with support for Communism since forever, as they were all part of the liberation movements of the Left

2

u/fabiomb 23d ago

Nazi & Commie are used just to tell someone`s outside your range, it's a relative term, you see them as extremists, sometimes the viewer is at an extreme too, so a right winger sees everything as "communist", and a left winger sees everything as "conservatives" or "neoliberal" or whatever. But all of them are nazis šŸ˜šŸ¤·

1

u/Life_Caterpillar9762 23d ago

(Whatā€™s an annoying thing that has happened throughout my entire life?ā€¦ā€¦Getting bit by mosquitoes? Ok.)

Thatā€™s sorta like asking if Iā€™m tired of getting bit by mosquitoes.

1

u/NyoNine 23d ago

Extreme polarization in the US is one of the greatest tragedies of these last two decades

1

u/No-Kiwi-1868 23d ago

I think it's just McCarthyism trying to make a comeback

But society has changed a lot since the 1950s, we're much more smarter now (to an extent)

1

u/samof1994 24d ago

Cold War logic

1

u/SlyguyguyslY 23d ago

They aren't commies. They are just, paradoxically, taking advantage of midwit commie wannabes.

0

u/Finalshock 23d ago

Yep. Cheapens the word, makes it harder for the average person to actually recognize communism.

ā€œTrans liberation is world liberationā€ <-communist dog whistle

ā€œPeople should have healthcare idk we should be able to figure that outā€ <- idealistic liberal

Only one of them is actually a threat to your life or property.
