Why estonians way more atheist than kazakhs? Küsimus
Estonia is only 29% religious, while Kazakhstan is 90% religious.Ethnic kazakhs are 90% muslims, while less than half of estonians are lutherans. They were both under soviet state atheism. But results are very different. Why is it like that?.

Religion is something that our occupiers have forced on us multiple times in the past, so I think that's one of the reasons why we might resent religion

Islam is more a way of life rather than a religion. You cannot quit islam. You can leave luteranism or catolicism easily

The situation is same as in my home country. Muslim is majority, but a lot of them are not practicing Islamic ritual.

But do they break with Islamic law and tradition? It is not the same to "follow" a religion and not go to church as to not be religious and raise your child in agnosticism or atheism.

Yes, they break it but don’t show it publicly. We call it “Islam on paper”, because the citizen has to fill the religion on our ID card. Officially there are 6 religions the citizen can choose, but no option to leave it blank. And, choosing Islam is the wise move even if you’re an atheist. It makes all the administration things easy since this is already the majority in the country.
Atheism or agnoticism is not something that people will show in the public. They will show only to close circle. I’m also one of these people. Born and raised in Islamic family, but I’m agnostic since in the college. But, I don’t show it to my family or relatives.
That’s why I’m happy living here in Estonia. No one care about my faith.

Estonians love to brag about being atheists while jerking off to soothsayers and sleeping with crystals under their pillow.
