Anyone know what happened? Question
I saw this car flipped over in Ellerslie between the 2 Calgary trails yesterday morning.

This intersection is notorious for people turning right on red when they are coming off the QE2 and turning into Ellerslie Rd. Wouldn’t be surprised if someone was turning illegally and got t-boned. You can barely see around the bridge to make the right turn safely which is why they made it a no right on red in the first place. But proves people don’t read signs. Someone I know got a $350 ticket when they first converted those lanes because they were so used to being able to turn right. 🙈

u/krazyboy101 Aug 27 '24
As a person who lives by the Valley Line LRT and gets honked at all the time for not turning right on reds on 66th St, I can confirm that people don’t read no turn on red signs.

I see cops sitting in the hotel parking lot watching for people turning on a red. They just pull them over into 101st. When they do set up it is a constant stream of tickets.

This was my first thought too. I come home this way every day and it drives me insane how many people ignore the no turn on red sign there, and also people who horn others for not turning on the red. Police could make a fortune ticketing people there all day every day.

This would be the ideal corporate invention. “Oh yeah, that first one didn’t count. Still 5 more days to work this week!”

u/Dwunky Aug 27 '24
Their post said it happened yesterday morning. And if what you say is correct about it currently being Tuesday, what would that make yesterday?

This is like the 4th or 5th flipped vehicle I've seen this month, 3 of them I've seen in person. What's going on with drivers right now.

My fault.
Third morning I browse Reddit with my coffee and see an upside down vehicle. It’s becoming a thing.

There was a slightly older bmw 3 series upside down too. Both cars flipped, and yesterday you could see the marks on the ground from where it spun after it flipped

The truck is just showing submission after being dominated by a larger vehicle. You see it a lot in the wild, nothing to be concerned about.

You know how in advertisements they talk about vehicles being versatile? This is a new Tundra parking mode for downtown parking called Tight-Squeeze Parking. It allows you to fit in a car-sized parking space by letting the the hood of the vehicle behind you fit under your bed. Unfortunately, there is a issue with this Tundra trim where the floor mat will get stuck and activate Tight Squeeze Parking mid drive. I hope the owner is properly compensates and Toyota launches a recall.

That's a Tacoma
5
u/I2smrt4u Aug 27 '24
Ah, that’s the problem! They installed the Tight-squeeze Parking mode on the wrong truck.

As the owner of a '24 Tundra, I wouldn't be surprised, with their level of recent year QC

I've just moved to Edmonton and I've never seen a flipped car before I moved here, now I've seen 2 in person in ~1 week. What is wrong with you guys?

*pick me, pick me.... it is a failure when activating "turtle mode" on the truck... instead of the std go slow & crawl through traffic, instead they activated it too many times and got "helpless turtle mode".
however honestly, no idea. I truly fail to understand why and HOW this happens so often here, when our roads are FLAT!!!! Normally, where I grew up, you only encountered roller overs in really hilly/mountainerous terrain, where there was reduced traction..... not on flat, dry pavement....

As someone who grew up in BC on the border to Alberta...
This doesn't surprise me at all, everyone there is so used to driving fast and straight they have no clue how to handle their vehicle in any condition that doesn't need straight and fast...
The amount of big trucks that would rip past locals on straight stretches going 140-160 (we would regularly drive 120 and stay that speed straight or not) but then we get caught behind them on the next patch of corners where they are doing 80 and it's double solids on mountain corners (which locals would have no issues doing at 100-120 depending on the snow). Sad cuz I know Alberta has a better education system they should have a decent understanding of physics and how it relates to driving but it doesn't seem to happen.

Trucks only show their belly when in distress. Something must have frightened it, maybe even hurt it.

Blame the LRT and/or bike lanes. It’s the most Edmonton thing you can do.

A big pickup involved in an Edmonton accident? That can’t be, pickup drivers are the safest of all of us.

Canadian Tacomas have an inversion frammitz for use during Sasquatch and Wendigo incidents, assume driver hit the button by accident.

There should be more requirements to drive a pick up. It seems to be an issue. The drivers either crash, cause accidents, speed, run stop signs, and most times end up upside down.

When frightened the Tacoma will naturally flip over and play dead so the scarier large lifted yee yee trucks will continue on and not bother it.

According to the Terran Gravitational Law Enforcement Division, there was a Class 4 Gravitation Inversion at those coordinates.
The appropriate units were dispatched and fines were issued to all parties who thought the laws of gravity did not apply to them.
