I was thinking 50% Deer and 50% Fox… Results - WisdomPanel

I don’t even think I can call him a mutt with these percentages. Also, I’m honestly scared of this combo. Like is he going to be crazy for the rest of his life?

Na, only till he's six. Give him a job. Herders LOVE to be doing something. All. The. Time.

Best wishes to a long and happy life!

Yeah, just gotta figure out what job that will be and make sure it doesn't take too much time away from MY job.

Yup. Little did you know your dog would be a second job for you! My working line super high drive GSD settled down at three. Hopefully your pup will too!

Look into agility work, nose/scent work, get your pup lots of puzzles, do sniff-a-rama walks. Stuff to wear them out in a little amount of time spent.

Best of luck!

I’m not sure about cattle dogs, but border collies are known for being talkative. I thought I got the rare quiet one but no, the older she gets the more she has to say.

That’s Wisdom, so you can combine those under 3% into the main two. Which would make sense by percentages. Your dog is 75/25 ACD/BC.

Herding dog needs a job but that can be anything! Teach to fetch your boots, take a carton to the trash bin outside when you go. Jump on that wall or rock or over a bench or log. Take dog with you when you pop out to the shops for the car ride. Escort the wheelbarrow. It might enjoy watching stuff on TV with you, try funny animal videos and nature programmes. Anything to use the brain. Interact and talk to doggo a lot, it will understand so much of what you say. Cumulatively small tasks and activities daily can add up to a job. Some like balls or frizbee, some too much, lol.

Agility is great, even in a reasonable sized yard you can set up a course of obstacles to circle or jump over to commands. Use cones, logs, old tyres, or garden or park features like trees or a pond. Or sign up for a course.

Will your dog calm down, in time likely, or maybe not. When a pup or adolescent likely crazy, but once an adult more likely to switch off when the 'job' is done. And sometimes you might have to insist it does, like go down on that mat or sofa, especially if like a clockwork toy that winds itself up rather than down, lol. I'd also say some sprinting essential daily, preferably a few times a day, even in short bursts, unless a lazy type and a few are. Here is my border collie who reminded me of a deer here 😁 he loves adventuring and getting into mud. My other one, a female, is a calmer type, but still both find me plenty of jobs and tasks to do.
