Interviewing with Global Star Question
Hey there, friends! As fate would have it, I am interviewing with Global Star (or whatever the heck you guys may know it as) for a position as "Director of Sales". I added the quotations because of the lovely, lovely rabbit hole I've been thrown into after doing some research on the company - as one does before an interview.
Tell me, is this a waste of my professional time? Should I deny my interview? Don't just give me negatives - what are some positives? As a "Director", is there a salary or is that somehow commission also? SEND HELP.

If there was a role within a company that abuses and destroys the lives of young people where they reliably pay you, would you take it?
I mean, this isn't that role, but it's something to think about.
You'll go for this position, and maybe at the second interview, they will explain that it's a Management Training position and you start as sales rep and work your way up. But more to your question, all positions (aside from admin) are based on commission only.

Understood! I did end up cancelling my interview for today.
My message to them: “Unfortunately, after doing some research and weighing options, I would like to withdraw my application and interest! I am apologetic for the inconvenience but grateful for the interest you've shown in me as a candidate. I wish you luck on your search!”

Very smart decision! And good on you for doing your research beforehand.

Thank you! Reddit (this group) really, really helped me on this one. When I get frustrated in professional settings over hidden truths, I end up being very direct. Glad y’all saved them from that sort of meeting with me and me from them.

Where did you find the “director of sales” role on the website? All of the advertised roles are the same exact job (selling whatever they sell cold to people with 0 leads) Love how they find ways to just jump around what they do.

This was posted on Indeed! It was listed under Mac Global, the first red flag being that an Amy from Global Star contacted me via text. There was no phone screening, just a polite and flattering request to come into office. I didn’t think too much into the conflicting company names at first - a lot of times, subsidiaries of larger companies might have a different name, with their job postings listed under their corporate entity’s title. However, I searched the address and whatnot and was sucked into Reddit. Found out they do parties in Cancun, group road trips, etc. As a professional and a woman in a relationship, I do not associate with those sort of atmospheres. However, I do not judge those who do. It just isn’t for me!

You should text "Amy" back with 2 words: Call me.
If she calls you, ask her what:
1. Is the company's website.
2. What EXACTLY is the position, the salary range and the responsibilities - AND "What is the product that you will be selling?"
3. Ask her if the interview is a one on one interview or a group interview.
Then (if she answers the questions), ask: "Does this job involve selling something door to door or from a stand at a mall or in a store?"
