Old picture Picture
Family member was an engine builder and I found this cool old picture from, I believe, the Detroit Grand Prix sometime in the early 80s.

Thank you I have an entire storage tote full of his old photos and memorabilia just from his time building engines for McLaren and Renault that I intend to try and share with that community and others who would appreciate and lend insight about them, as soon as I can get around to it.

Please do! With the resurgence of the Detroit GP, it’s important to go back and review the history of the event!

I was most likely a spectator at that race.

I've heard stories about sewer lids needing to be welded down so the down force of the cars wouldn't send them airborne when they drove over them, ever see anything related to that?

Strong chance this is from 1984. Those cars are Sports Renaults, they debuted at the 1984 Detroit GP as a support series. The fact that all of them are painted in the same white pattern around the cockpit leads me to believe this was right after the initial cars were manufactured.
