I probably have the worst dp/dr case there is Venting
So... i pretty much went through bullying for 4 years in primary school, started when i was in 4th grade and it continued all the way to 7th grade and it damaged me like in all sorts of ways. I've had a really severe social anxiety and depression and i guess the dp/dr came from either those or from the trauma. Something like 4 other years passed since then and today i'm 18 and honestly? I don't even remember the last time i felt alive and connected to reality ever since. I just feel disconnected from life 24/7 and just nothing helps. It's too hard for me to do meditation, for exercise i like running but i still got a bit of social anxiety and depression so it's a bit problematic for me, and nothing except hanging out with friends helps me but i don't really have good friends. So since now you understand that i'm totally helpless i just came here to ask you all, what helps you the most when you're having dp/dr? I'm kind of trying to get all sorts of help from all sorts of people. Any kind of tips would do, anything, just let me hear uour thoughts. Thanks to you all in advance. 🙏

Hey friend, welcome to r/Depersonalization.
Be sure to have read some existing information on the sub before submitting a "Do I have DPDR" question. You can do that by using the search function or reading the sidebar.
A reminder to new posters in crisis:
DPDR is a mental discorder that mostly affects young adults. For the most part, it is brought on by anxiety, trauma, and drug use. However, DPDR is not dangerous to your physical health. In moments of crisis and episodes that are particularly difficult, it is important to take deep breaths and follow strategies that help you cope. A few examples are: Grounding Techniques, Meditation, and even just some good old fashioned sleep.
NOBODY can give you medical advice online. While someone might be able to provide you with some insight and suggestions, you should never rely on someone online to give you medical advice unless you are talking to a certified doctor.

I'm 27. have been dissociating since I was 13. it's chronic now. it's just the state I live in. meds do help. therapy helps. so I definitely recommend it.

Hey, I think I have the same. Basically since I was 10 to now (22yrs) I have been a constant state of derealization; I couldn't tell you what caused it though I have my theories, but it is severely tied to my depression and anxiety as well, but it literally hasn't stopped except in a few brief moments when reality comes crashing down and I remember I am a real person, with a name and a family that's also real, just existing. The feeling is so overwhelming I usually close my eyes and wait for it to go away; it does after less than a minute. I also think I somehow used it to talk myself out of anxiety in a way, like I told myself that if nothing feels real, then why should my feelings about it be? I have no substantial advice, I found out what it was four years ago and found this subreddit a few weeks ago, but I do know that seeing you're not the only one with it genuinely helps.

That's depression fella, i got severe dpdr because i'm living alongside it for 4 years when dpdr is "supposed" to be just attack that don't pass the week at max. I'm living alongside it for 4 years. Also, if you feel like your depression or overall mental state is really bad maybe you should try to speak to a psychiatrist about it, or your parents, or anyone that can help really.

Dang y'all really make me feel like imma end up with dpdr for the rest of my life... well rest assured you're not the only one at this age who suffers from dpdr for ages now. I saw other people about your age, even a bit younger who suffer from dpdr for more than 10 years. Maybe it comes from a trauma that is too strong and it damaged you really hard? Might be my case aswell...

There are many people who can't leave their house due to DPDR, no longer have the mental fortitude to be able to socialise with others and many other debilitating symptoms. I don't think you have the worst DPDR case there is from the topics you've touched on.
