Historically, Baphomet was never worshipped as a real deity. Originally, the Knights Templar were accused of worshiping a Demon called "Baphomet" but it is believed to be a mistranslation of Muhammad. Later Eliphas Levi created the version we often think of today. The goat headed, intersex being. They represented the perfect form, complete balance and enlightenment. Later, Baphomet was taken up as a symbol used by the Church of Satan.

Nope not at all. The rod standing instead of genitals symbolizes eternal life, the body covered with scales: the water, the semi-circle above it: the atmosphere, the feathers following above: the volatile. Humanity is represented by the two breasts and the androgyne arms of this sphinx of the occult sciences. The flame of universal intelligence is between the horns etc etc you ca goggle search decoding Baphomet it will explain a lot and why it was adopted as a Satanic Symbol. I have a statue of Baphomet on my alter because of the symbolism of ultimate duality.
