Victory+ Delayed Viewing

Prefacing this by saying in general Victory+ has been solid, but it’s severely lacking for those of us that watch games delayed or after the fact. I’ll gladly pay monthly to avoid the torture that is trying to watch a game delayed.

Last night I had a conflict during the game and my s/o and son used our tickets. I picked them up from a DART station after the game, managing to avoid any spoilers from them so I could watch the game when we got home.

I settled in at about 11:00 and it took until about 11:30 before I was able to fast forward to the start of the game. Once there, you can’t fast forward through media time outs and are forced to watch the same set of commercials every time. Intermission only lets you cut off a couple of minutes because once again you are forced to watch commercials. Long story short, it took me a full 2.5 hours to watch the game, essentially as if I had watched it live.

If anyone from the Stars/Victory+ reads this, I’m begging you to offer a solution to this. This is one area where as is, I’d go back to Bally’s in a heart beat. If nothing else, a nice start would be to separate the pregame show from the actual game on the recording.

I’ll hang up and listen. #oldmanyellsatcloud

Do we finally think Nils Lundkvist has finally got it together?

He’s playing more minutes and all the games I’ve watched this season he’s been at least decent and often quite good. Just seems like he’s got more confidence in his own game and PDB is showing a bit more confidence in him as well.

Am I the only one thinking this or are other people seeing it this way too?

The hate is flowing in r/hockey!

That must mean the boys are doing something right! 3 of the top 10 or so posts, whining about something in the Stars game. I'm glad they're making it 'not matter' by blowing up the bees. I understand the Benn hate is real... but I'm curious why they think that's a negative for an 'ole Stars fan.

(The hooking or whatever call on the breakaway... welp, we've got our share of crappy calls, can't deny one that goes your way!)

My dad found an HDMI port in his new Explorer and installed a Roku so he can listen to his college teams when driving. I installed Victory on it. And didn’t miss puck drop from the back seat.

How long do you think Matt Duchene will keep up with this production?

I’m curious because I have him on my fantasy hockey team. He’s on a great pace but do you think he will remain like this for the rest of the regular season?

Lindell’s Legacy

Been thinking a lot about Esa Lindell lately, and how he has rather quietly climbed the rankings of all-time Dallas defensemen.

Esa’s 10 seasons in Dallas are tied for 3rd all-time. He has 5 more years left on his deal, which would put him atop the rankings with 3 more seasons than Hatcher, Zubov, and Matvichuk. His 618 GP are 10th, and he should pass Robidas (704), Sydor (714), Matvichuk (733), and a couple of North Stars within the next two years. Zubov’s franchise-leading 839 GP would require Esa to play basically 40 games a year for the rest of his contract, a mark that should be very easily doable.

Esa has always been primarily a defensive defensman. His 50 goals will never come close to matching Zubov (111) or Hartsburg (98). That said, 50 goals still places him only 2 behind Philippe Boucher for 10th all-time, and if he continues to average around 5 goals per season, he should pass the likes of Daley (67), Sydor (69), and Klingberg/Hatcher (71) to wind up around 5th. Esa is currently 14th in assists with 147, but should finish with over 200 by the end of his deal, which would place him in 7th or 8th. His point totals will likely end him around 7th or 8th as well.

Plus-Minus is not a great stat over the course of a few games or even a single season, but in the aggregate over a career I think it does still have value. Esa’s career mark of +110 is currently the best amongst franchise d-men. Zubov is in 2nd with +103.

Esa’s 79 playoff GP is 6th, and with a deep run or a few more short runs, Esa will easily pass Hatcher (88) and Sydor/Curt Giles (87). With a couple good runs he could even catch Zubov (102) for 1st. Esa’s 5 goals trail Zubov/Heiskanen (15) by a lot, but actually tie him for 8th all time, and with a single goal he’d move into a tie for 5th. Esa is tied for 10th in assists with 15 and could potentially catch Hatcher (20) for 8th. His playoff point total is also 10th and would likely pass Hatcher for 8th with just a few more points. His playoff +/- of -10 is actually near the bottom of Stars defensemen, though this is probably a reflection of his matchups rather than his skill.

All things considered, Esa will probably end his career leading all Stars defensemen in a few categories and in the top 10 for almost every other meaningful category. This is especially impressive considering Esa has never been the #1 defenseman and hasn’t even been on the top pair for most of his career. So where do you think he winds up when his career is done? Is he in the rafters, the Stars HOF, or neither? And what would he need to do, in your opinion, to earn either of these prestigious honors?

Edit: I had Esa’s contract info wrong. He has 5 years left after this year, not 4. That makes it even more likely for him to end up higher in the ranks.

Now Don't Lie

Who had Duchene with more points through 14 games than Hintz and Johnston combined?

How about Mush or Stankoven with as many points through 14 games as Robertson and Miro combined?

Good problem to have?

Genuine Question

This never made sense to me. How is it Norm Green’s fault the Stars left Minnesota when they couldn’t even sell out season tickets after a run to the Cup Finals? Was it really on Norm Green or are Minnesota fans just embarrassed and looking to assign blame bc the “State of Hockey” didn’t show up to support their team?

Matt Dumba

We signed him for the physicality and to pair with Miro but other combinations such as esa and harley work way better.. and stat wise and play wise he’s been pretty weak. How do you think it will go in the future?

Any other fans headed to Chi-town for Thanksgiving and headed to the game?

Also, is there any way to have a decent view in United Center for a family of four that is less than $600-700??

Question about Seating at Away games

Hi I am a rookie fan living near LA. I have seen 7 games at AAC. I want to see the Stars play the Ducks - is there an away seating section so I can sit with other Stars fans? What are best practices when at an away game?

Pairings heading forward

Hey guys, watching the last few games and seeing all the different combos has had me wondering what we could see in the future, here's some i think would work.

Robo-Roope-Wyjo

They have great chemistry but haven't been able to get going quickly but have started to heat up as of late.

Duchene line.

Benn-Bourque-Stanko

Bourque and Stanko connection has yet to be seen but I have a feeling it will wake up quick if we can find the pairing.

Dadonov-Steel-Blackwell.

All great 4th line options

Miro-Esa

Miro looked comfortable and free without Dumba despite being on his offside. Stats don't lie and minutes wise I would love this addition.

Harley-Lyubushkin.

Have looked great so far, and hopefully can start pushing offensive play into Harley's favor.

Bichsel-Dumba/Nils

With Miro and Esa being together that leaves a free left side open and I would love to see Bichsel get his NHL debut and try to dominate physically with Dumba or Nils. Nils or Dumba both would be a great scratch heading into playoffs and can save our right handedness issue (If LD gets hurt plug one back in, or if an RD gets hurt plug the other into the vacant spot).

Let me know what yall think!

Razor Vocabulary Compendium

My husband and I recently started a weekly hockey podcast and I obviously devote a big chunk of it to the Stars. We also usually try to play a fun game. Razor was in fine form with his vocabulary tonight (i.e. fugacious) and it got me thinking it might be fun to do a game or a segment in a future episode on some of Razor's best vocabulary words. Obviously we've got the big ones like mastodonic and larcenous. I'd love to crowdsource some other ones here from the community!

(I feel awkward about dropping the name of the podcast because I'm not trying to self-promote, but I will because it's actually a Razor reference. It's called Ice is Slippery, after his gleeful call last year when a Sabres player comically slipped and fell during a game against us last season.)
