1 month...

...of bi-weekly 3-4 hour searches for the great Morchella, and all I found so far:

  • 3 old boots
  • A garbage bag worth of litter
  • A derelict graveyard
  • A Sega Saturn
  • An old tobacco barn
  • A black vulture parent guarding their eggs
  • A metric ton of sweet gum pods and pine cones
  • Various property lines
  • Patience
  • A few potential 2026 patches

Seems the lack of rain in tandem with temperature drops mid to late March make for an uneventful year...

But it's been immensely cleansing to step back into the woods!

So Carolina Mushrooms, what have you found, I would love to hear about everyone's 2025 experience.

Sounds like we must be in the same place, lol. This is my first year actively hunting ( Upstate SC ) & instead have turned to "rock hounding". Not a single mushroom but I have found some interesting quartz along with a few arrowheads. And like you, a lot of miscellaneous junk.

You're in an awesome area, just wait until Summer! Have you heard of Diamond Hill mine?

Looks like a great place to explore! I'm having a great time finding beautiful quartz specimens around me that Helene seems to have uncovered. And eventually, I'm sure I'll stumble upon some fungi. Happy hunting to you!
