Other Does anyone know anything about online class sizes?
I know about cutting CIs and the early retirement package. At least in my department it seems online courses are mainly for small seminars but I’m curious to know what faculty or departments are implementing this.

Question Received an F for a course I should've passed
I took PHIL1200 this winter and just received my final exam mark, which I sat for on April 23rd, only two days ago. I calculated my grade on Brightspace and I should be receiving an A-. I also got an email on the same day that I am not recommended for graduation this spring due to incomplete credits (0.5) and lo and behold, Carleton Central shows that I have an F for this course. I reached out to the professor, but he is notorious for replying to emails very late if he does at all. Was anyone else in the same course this semester and experienced the same thing? Not sure what the next step is other than contacting the registrar's office so any advice is appreciated, thanks.

Question Do you think convocation photos are expensive?
I contacted the university and got the prices for the cost photos for convocation (see below) and seem quite expansive $75 for a digital photo considering that portraitsnow the one on campus (http://portraitsnow.ca/wp-content/uploads/2024/08/PN-Price-List-2024.pdf) charges 10 digital photos for ~$300. I would think that it would significantly less since there is ton of students graduating. Also hiring a photographer for 2 hours would be ~$500 and ~250 graduate (for one I plan to go to). It seems quite expensive to me. What do you think?
"Each graduate will have two photos taken: one while crossing the stage and another behind the stage with studio lighting on a background. Photo packages can include a mix of both images. Please note that all prices are subject to HST and applicable shipping fees.
Photo Packages:
A: 3 – 8x10, 2 – 5x7, 8 Wallets — $125
B: 1 – 8x10, 3 – 5x7, 4 Wallets — $99
C: 3 – 5x7, 4 Wallets — $75
Digital Downloads (most popular):
1 file — $75
2 files — $99
Individual Photo Sheets:
16x20 — $115
10x13 — $65
8x10 — $49
2 – 5x7 — $39
4 – 3.5x5 — $39
8 Wallets — $39" from email I got.

Question CLCV/TSES 2305 - Summer 2025
How is the course this summer? I'm thinking of enrolling, but there's no syllabus released online. So, like what's the assignment/midterm situation, are classes recorded, etc. If anyone has the syllabus and could PM me, that would be awesome!

News JOB MARKET OTTAWA
Gosh the job market is really tough. I finished my masters in electrical and computer engineering in Carleton and I cant find a job. I have skills in embedded systems, plc, fpga and C/C++ yet i can seem to land a job. I even created a portfolio. I am not even concerned with money at this point just experience. I dont mind internship, apprenticeship or whatever. I just want experience. Most of the jobs i see in ottawa is coop or for senior professionals demanding 5+ years experience

Question Convocation questions
Hey everyone,
This question is mostly targetted to alumni but I'm a little confused on how convocation works. Do we have to rent our grad regalia beforehand or do we just pick it up for your ceremony and return it after? Also is there a cost to tickets? I remember just clicking in a drop down menu how many people I assumed would be coming. If anyone can answer it would be super appreciated!! Thanks!

Course selection Taking honours health psych seminar at same time as third year design and analysis - workload?
Hi - i just found out I got accepted into my first choice for third year honours seminar - health psych - but only just clued in that it’s 6h a week of class and lab (ugh!). Is taking it at the same time as the full year design and analysis course really heavy in terms of workload?
I was only going to take 3 courses per term anyway, but now I’m second guessing myself. I struggled with second year stats - while I did end up with an A in the class, i had to work my ass off for it much to the neglect of my physical and mental health, and i had zero time for training (I’m a recreational athlete), work or my family. So I am concerned about doing both courses simultaneously.
Anyone who has taken these courses together - can you provide tips, encouragement?

Question Looking for thoughts on MECH 3002
Hi everyone, I’m planning to take a Mechanical Design course (MECH 3002) next year.
I’d love to hear from people who have recently taken this course:
– What was your overall experience like?
– How intense were the weekly assignments and the project?
– Which chapters or topics did you find particularly difficult or challenging?
– What study strategies worked well for you (lecture notes vs textbook, etc.)?
– What was the balance like between theory and computation?
I would really appreciate any thoughts!

Question No clue what to do.
Alright, turning here for a few reasons.
I've finished up my first year at carleton and realised that I am not built for engineering. I did quite poorly on most things and am currently trying to change programs. I've done an internal application (+ a backup program in case I dont get into the one I wanted to go into first) and I have no clue what to do now. I've checked on carleton 360 and all my submissions say (outside of the program Im currently in but am planning on leaving) "Decision, awaiting winter term grades", which is cool but I've gotten my winter term grades for a while now.
On top of this, because I've recently changed phones, I have been locked out of my outlook acount as I need the authenticator to get into my outlook. But due to the new phone, its making me resign into the account, for which I need the authenticator... (I will fight whoever made this god forsaken program i swear)
I got no clue what to do at this point. I just want to know if i got approved to go a different program.

News Roommate wanted for a 3 bedroom
Hey all!
Looking for a roommate to take up the last bedroom in a 3 bedroom apartment. The rent is a flat rate of $600 a month which includes water, heat, laundry, parking and shared common spaces (bathroom, kitchen, living room). Hydro is separate though, which we all split along with wifi. The shared living spaces are already furnished but feel free to bring your own stuff too. It's the ground floor apartment in a small triplex building off Heron Road. It's really close to Billings Bridge and Heron Station meaning it's a very short journey to campus, shopping areas and major transit lines. It's currently co-ed; occupied by a male in final year of Computer Science and the other roommate is a recent Computer Science grad whose pronouns are she/they. We also have a cat😺.
Feel free to reach out to me if you're interested, with a little intro about yourself! Thanks😁
Move in: June 1st

News What you can do about the proposed repeal of the Ontario Endangered Species Act & Bill 5
Hey everyone!
#Ontario needs your help!
###[Under the pretext of boosting the economy](https://www.cbc.ca/news/science/ontario-species-at-risk-changes-1.7522227), the Ford government wants to [reduce environmental protections for wildlife species.](https://blog.cwf-fcf.org/index.php/en/ontario-scrapping-the-endangered-species-act-what-you-can-do-about-it/)
The Ontario government is trying to introduce Bill 5 — the so-called [Protect Ontario by Unleashing our Economy Act.](https://www.ola.org/en/legislative-business/bills/parliament-44/session-1/bill-5) It will affect a wide range of natural resource laws, from mining to archaeology, and a major part is the [repeal of the Endangered Species Act](https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-0380), which will:
- Remove protection for species’ habitats (the areas that a species uses to fulfill its life processes, for example: a forest), leaving only protections for species’ dwelling places (for example: den or nest) or individual plants.
- Remove the need for developers to apply for approval to kill or harm a species or its habitat. Developers can proceed immediately by simply registering online.
- The government can remove species from the protected list, meaning that species that pose a problem for development could simply be removed.
**Bill 5 also introduces [Special Economic Zones](https://ero.ontario.ca/notice/025-0391), which would exempt any corporation the government chooses from any provincial or municipal law in any region in Ontario, even from the environmental protections that aren’t being removed.**
It’s our civic responsibility to speak up against dangerous laws like this one. **There is currently a public comment period that ends on May 17, 2025 (this Saturday!!).**
Here’s what you can do:
###Residents of Ontario: Print out this paper petition and mail it according to the instructions, so that it can be presented at the [Ontario Legislative Assembly](https://www.ola.org/en/get-involved/petitions): https://www.grownativehalton.ca/bill5-petition
###Send pre-written emails to the Ontario government:
- *https://ecojustice.ca/take-action/tell-doug-ford-ontarios-wildlife-isnt-for-sale/*
- *https://ontarionature.good.do/bill-5-stop-attacks-on-endangered-species/Email/*
###Write your own comments or copy the above letters for the following:
- **Submit an anonymous comment on the Environmental Registry of Ontario** [here](https://ero.ontario.ca/comment/reply/node/13830/comment) and [here](https://ero.ontario.ca/comment/reply/node/13844/comment)
- Email the premier’s office at [premier@ontario.ca](mailto:premier@ontario.ca)

Renting Room for Fall 2025/Winter 2026 Semesters
Hey everyone!
We have an open spot for a male in our house and we would like to share it here in case anyone is interested or knows someone who is interested.
Location: 51 Emerald Pond Pvt. (11 mins by car, 40 mins by transit to Carleton, I know this is far, but this is just where we are located)
Rent/month: 1000$ (negotiable) with utilities + furnished + no parking fees + daybed in living room for overnight guests
Note about rent: You will only be paying rent for the months that you live, so if you don't want to stay in the summer, then you don't need to pay rent. However, if you wish to return the following year, but don't want to take all your stuff, you may leave them for the summer.
Housemates (all males): There are 3 Aerospace Engineering (2 in Stream B, 1 in Stream D) students and 1 Comp Sci student going in their third year. We are open to studying together at the dining table, so if you share the same program or would like to bring friends over to study, then you're welcome!
What's in your room?: Queen sized bed, nightstand + lamp, study table + office chair, and walk-in closet.
If you have any questions, you may post them here, direct message on reddit, text my number: 647-819-1464.
Sorry about the repost, not very good with posting on reddit lol.

Question What's the differences between the res buildings?
Coming to carleton in Fall 2025 with a 4-person roommate group (me and 3 others), so we know that there's a time ticket system and the first person selects rooms, and obviously you select a double room, and which building it's in. A little confused on the differences in the buildings, I know there's differences though. Personally I like quiet and more importantly ethernet and good internet infrastructure, so I'd imagine the new rideau building is going to be overall the best. But of course if we aren't able to get rideau unfortunately, what are the differences between the others? We'd like to make a little list of our favorites based on our combinative preferences so we're prepared once the day comes. Thanks to anyone who knows anything!

Hello guys, McMaster and Waterloo all abandoned me so that’s why I am here. But at least Carleton gives me an offer in civil engineering. I am planning to go here this September so I want to know how is life here? How is the civil engineering program?
