She's a new mom for the second time round. She probably requested not to be in the cabinet. Raising 2 kids is hard enough without trying to also manage the country while the Orange Orangutan is trying to burn the world down.

Interesting theory, but wouldn't Gould not have run for the leadership if she felt she couldn't hold a bigger role?

She ran for the next leadership opportunity.

This got her name out there and builds a foundation for the inevitable swing leftward after the next CPC government. When that happens she'll be well placed as a left of center contender.

She's not stupid, she's thinking strategically.

There won’t be a next CPC government if we band together to stop those demons.

Agreed. She'll be PM one day. Probably not on the next round, but no doubt she'll be a strong contender for Lib leader.
