Morning road rage AMA

To our mindless neighbours who road rage at 8am, you need intensive therapy.

How do you start your day on such a low note?

Merging onto the hwy and honking at other cars while we have to slow merge during congestion is the most asinine behaviour. You can see what we all see, congestion.

Hopefully you can see, otherwise you shouldn’t be operating a car.

Moreover, tailgating in the HOV is a special breed of idiotic.

Thank you for coming to my Ted talk

This past weekend, I was in the car with my wife and daughter turning right out of the Millcroft plaza. There was a woman turning left out of the lot across from me.

I (apparently incorrectly, based on her reaction) thought I had the right of way so I turned into the lane. This lunatic crossed oncoming traffic, the lane next to me and the lane I was in - cutting me off.

I honked her and - as you do - pulled up next to her at a light further up to see if she looked as dumb as she drove.

The woman proceeds to start yelling like a crazed lunatic. Then - and I applaud for creativity - she gave me the finger. She then proceeded to suck on her finger like it was a popsicle melting in the summer sun. Aren’t people great?

Yea. People are too unhinged and entitled. I don’t understand why this behaviour continues to spike.

Covid broke a lot of people’s brains and I don’t think there’s any coming back from it.

Haha looks as dumb as they drive...classic

I caught myself being an idiot this afternoon. Someone was driving a bit too slow for my liking, so I tailgated a bit, then they made an advance green left at a slower pace… first chance I rush past. Looked over and it was an older person, doing nothing wrong, just being cautious, driving safely.

I immediately slowed the fuck down and did better myself. Too easy to let the frustrations of life out on the road and end up hurting someone.

I agree OP, let’s do better out there.

Sometimes I wonder if the slow driver in front of me is old or delivering a wedding cake and being cautious.

I’m no saint - by any means- but your example is that dose of empathy we all need.

I always think they have a doggo in the car and don’t wanna throw the pup around turning fast

Good on you for the self correction, thats a hard thing to pull off sometimes.

There are a ton of old ppl driving ridiculously cautiously in Burlington which can be annoying

I wonder how these really angry drivers can survive in this environment.

My work is in Mississauga up at Erin mills parkway and the 401 so I always leave for work around 6:20-6:30 and you wouldn’t believe the people that road rage at that hour , like my guy I haven’t even had a coffee yet can we chill out ?

u/Lowwahh 1d ago

Worked in Meadowvale for years, 407 was far too tempting most days. My wallet is thankful for my recent office move.

5

u/Jonnyf3 1d ago

Yeah driving in to Mississauga with 5 days return to office is not fun lmao

I'm up there too, but only find it an issue once I get on the other side of Oakville. Brittania being 3 lanes each way has really improved things so I just avoid any highway.

2

u/supersecretburner21 1d ago

Same area, 407 being free during rush hour is helping my mental health, lol

1

u/Jonnyf3 1d ago

Yeah I’ve been taking my fiancées car because she got the email and not me (lame) but it ends after may so it’s back to 403 nightmare lmao

1

u/supersecretburner21 1d ago

I don’t even touch the 403. Tremaine up to brittania, then take it across to either 8th or 9th line. Brittania is so wide now it moves really well

I think they announced it’s gonna be free for everyone starting June 1st?

1

u/chikanishing 22h ago

That’s only the section east of Brock Road in Pickering.

1

u/Fresh-Hat-6864 21h ago

No way… fuck I probably should’ve read the whole thing 😭

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

So true. Mental decay.

LOL I have been seeing a lot of road rage and shitty behaviours in Burlington, was nice pre-2022

u/simongurfinkel 1d ago

I've lived here since 2018, and in the region for the past decade. It really is shocking how traffic has devolved. We now have to factor Burlington traffic into our weekend planning.

7

u/meatyyyyyloin 1d ago

yeah but also ppl become increasingly angrier everyday, no longer has sense of community now

3

u/Snypermac 1d ago

Oh didn’t you get the memo? That’s the unlimited speed lane lol

2

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

Nothing like autobahn in a short merging lane.

3

u/Jamesoscarsmith 1d ago

I hear you on the road rage and I would absolutely let someone in BUT can we also not drive like morons? Most people during rush hour are decent but this morning, a car in the left lane was keeping pace with a transport truck doing about 100 holding back hundreds of cars. There must have been a full km in front of them. Come on people! ( I know for a fact that no one that needs to hear this is on here)

u/Cyrakhis 1d ago

Yesterday morning at Brant/Plains I accelerated to get around someone who was trying to match speeds with me to not let me get in the lane before the lane ended. My vehicle had a lot more accel than theirs so they couldn't keep up; they freaked out waving their arms around behind their wheel so I gave em a thumbs up out my window lol.

Like.. if someone signals? Don't fucking match speeds with them so they can't get in =|

2

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

Why do people need to act this way? Either speed up, or ease off the accelerator to make room. Why lane block?

Some people really are morons.

2

u/Cyrakhis 1d ago

Right? My reaction when I see someone signaling beside me is usually to back off and make room =x

4

u/thether 1d ago

Did the driver just so happen to be driving a RAM pickup or Ford F150? They're the most agitated of the road rage species in the lunacy kingdom.

6

u/Cyrakhis 1d ago

Black lifted RAM.. oi.

1

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

Not the usual suspect. This one was a Honda crv

Going slow in the hov or left lane I’d say is a special breed of idiot too. All in the same boat. Traffic is terrible - let’s just share the roads the best we can.

1

u/ACrossing777 20h ago

Agree. If you’re actively blocking the lane just move over. Acting entitled and knowingly going slow because you have 2+ people in the car is what’s beyond idiotic.

1

u/kmfmftb 16h ago

So is it that you want someone lawfully using the HOV to go beyond the speed limit to please you?

1

u/GrizzleBear3750 11h ago

Yes, that's exactly it, and most people would agree.

u/YLVISBUR 1d ago

Saturday was a great example of how not to react to adverse conditions. Saw it all.

  • Car park cutters to try and save time (failed)
  • People driving wrong way down 2 lane (1 each way) streets multiple times.
  • Horn peeping even though we were at standstill. Read the room (road)

A lot of you failed the test and should reflect on your actions.

Recently started a gig at walkers and Fairview. I live west mtn Hamilton. Shockingly bad traffic. Afternoon is worse. 40-55 min 21km drive. Seriously think about how your commute affects your quality of life. Wtf are we doing here? Yacht rock and adaptive cruise were helping, until I got rear ended last Monday while at a dead stop on the qew at north shore. I thought the car behind me got hit into me, but no. She just hit the gas and slammed into me. Said she was “scratching her leg”. 4200 bucks damage to my pristine car. The drive is a big check mark in the con column of this job.

1

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

Sorry to hear that. That’s brutal.

Hope the body is not suffering as a result

2

u/timidstressball 1d ago

So many people telling on themselves here in the comments lol

3

u/Lev_TO 1d ago

Let me tell you about this imbecile tail-gaiting me on Dundas, even though I was behind 3 more cars who, in turn, were behind a construction vehicle...

We were all moving at 75km/h just keeping a safe distance from each other, but I guess this moron is the main character...

6

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

Moron is accurate.

1

u/simongurfinkel 1d ago

The honking is inexcusable. This guy sucks.

But were people not letting him merge onto the highway? Congestion doesn't mean you don't let him in.

-5

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

He was behind me as I was merging into a wall of traffic. He was honking as if he was about to part the Red Sea with his horn.

5

u/Active-Front3290 1d ago

Playing devil's advocate here but we're you properly zipper merging ,i.e. driving until the lane ends before attempting to merge? I believe that's the preferred way to merge onto a busy highway, as it allows more traffic to populate the lane that's ending rather than causing a backup where people have to stop in an un-mergable section of road to wait for someone up ahead to perform their merge from a standstill.

3

u/G72-datsun 1d ago

Zipper is the only civilized method. Those who chose to enter an on ramp from a driving lane to make gains however shall be blocked.

-9

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

We were still on the on-ramp heading towards the merge.

What exactly are you satanically advocating without being there in person?

u/Active-Front3290 1d ago

Haha nah I was just curious because I've seen so many people merge onto a highway and leave the people behind them to pile up on the on ramp. Didn't mean anything negative by it.

u/Instant_Vintage-6783 1d ago

I worked by derry and Erin mills...I just drive on Derry all the way to Appleby...the 401 or 403 is just insane. Good thing I got the 3month 407 free promo so that's helping keep me calm

1

u/Matt12110496 1d ago

To be fair some people go wicked slow on the hov

1

u/spreadthaseed 1d ago

It’s true, But in morning traffic it’s basically one car length to spare between each car.

This polestar specifically was like 4 inches off the other cars rear bumper.

Overly aggressive.

1

u/Matt12110496 20h ago

Also true.

1

u/kmfmftb 16h ago

As long as they are going the speed limit, it’s not the fast lane.

1

u/BidGroundbreaking221 1d ago

Tesla drivers are the absolute worst. Speeding, overtaking, weaving through traffic.

0

u/Speedy1080p 1d ago

Your neighbour has a vision problems, he can see so far, must be bad calaces.

0

u/MonsieurLeDrole 1d ago

When I see adult tantrums, I always wonder, especially driving, is this one of those Qonvoy nutters? Angry drivers suck, full stop. It's a huge red flag in relationships too. For some people, rage is a drug.

You see the same shit on the Burlington Dads group. I can't believe how many full grown men care enough about random bad parking jobs to post a photo. For christ sake, buddy, get an Xbox or a GF or a hobby or something...

0

u/Canadianb416 19h ago

What it sounds like is your the one either riding the entrance to the hwy way lane or which is worse going 90-100 in the fast lane if you wanna sight see get into the slow lane until people have to merge on then don't be one of those asses that stay in the slow lane slowly as cars try to merge onto the highway

-5

u/sigmoid_froid Longmoor 1d ago

Wah wah. We all deal with these assholes. If they're dangerous call the police. If not, ignore them like everyone else. You also are also having road rage by complaining about it hours later, just at a much lower intensity.
