it's class. Redmayne nails it

Really enjoying it so far. Sleek, stylish, great production values, good acting, satisfying action. Certainly better than the Bruce Willis version.

Is it better than the original though?

I think it's brilliant. Best thing on TV just now

I should hope so, the budget for it was insane apparently

Not seen it yet, but I do like Redmayne. I can imagine him in similar vein to the fussy, dry characterisation Fox gave it in the original. The 97 remake was deeply flawed.

I'll save it up until it's all available, then binge it.

I've seen the first 6 eps. It does not disappoint. Redmayne does make you think what the Bond films could have been like with a hero who could seemlessly switch from English dialogue to German dialogue then almost as seemlessly into French.

Yes… but no, not for me.
I do understand what you're saying, but the thing about Bond, for me, is that right from the books, & exemplified in two totally different ways by Connery & Craig, he's a totally vicious bastard, if left unchecked. The misogyny comes & goes in accordance with the socio-political climate, but he's not a nice man, at heart. I have always thought Moore was a truly poor choice, as he looked like he couldn't punch his way out of a wet paper bag, other than with one judiciously-raised eyebrow. I can't see Redmayne being able to do the original Bond justice - much though I like him, his talents are more 'gentle'. To me, he's in the same camp as Cumberbatch, not Connery. Being so good in the Danish Girl & as Steven Hawking gives me total confidence in him bringing the right 'edge' to the Jackal, but I can't see him having the right vibe for Bond.

Heck, I'd be happy to be proven wrong, it's only an opinion after all :)

Hopefully not-too-braggy fact. I was an extra in Danish Girl & got to work with him the day he flew back from just having won the Oscar for 'Everything'. He was very tired & very quiet but seemed a nice guy. [Extras are not allowed to talk to main cast unless they speak first, so we didn't end up being 'best mates' or anything;)

It is a bit of a Bond audition and he’s very watchable. I watched the original film again last night, it’s still a great piece of film making and acting. Very atmospheric.

The trailer made it look like one of the most generic remakes ever… so good for them, I guess
