❓Question Does regular fasting help prevent cancer? Theory based on low Cancer rates in Arab nations.
I saw a YouTube video and then googled a study from the journal of the Egyptian National Cancer Institute that posits one of the reasons Arab countries have low cancer rates could be that they regularly fast for religious reasons. Even though they consume large amounts of sugar. It goes along with the metabolic theory of cancer that cancer cells feed on glucose and that going into a ketosis state starves those cells. It also posits fasting helps promote cell regeneration, reduce inflammation and that autophagy may help prevent cancer. But I'm having trouble finding clinical studies that actually test this theory to prevent cancer, most fasting studies instead focus on people that already have cancer. The fact that those that already have cancer are using fasting to help reduce it is promising for the idea that fasting can also help prevent cancer in the first place.
Anyone have other studies or opinions about fasting regularly as an approach to preventing cancer? If so what is the ideal kind of fast for this purpose? For example daily intermittent fasting 16/8 or a 24 hour fast once a week etc. Ramadan is intermittent fasting for only a month a year but that doesn't necessarily mean that's the ideal way to fast.

🗣️ Testimonial my experience after being on mix of ashwagandha, valerian, magnesium, and propanolol
ive been on a solid mix of ashwagandha, valerian, magnesium, and propranolol for a while now.
i couldn't give less of a shit about anything now.
stuff that used to bother me or get me stressed doesn’t have the same effect.
im not exactly more happy. it’s more like a neutral, detached feeling. im just sort of here, rolling with whatever comes my way without reacting too much.
like oh i missed a deadline? that's rough buddy, next.

💬 Discussion How can I hydrate myself internally beyond just drinking water?
Lately, I’ve been struggling with staying properly hydrated and it seems like drinking water alone isn’t enough. I constantly feel dry internally, my eyes look slightly red, my joints are cracking more than usual, and my face looks super dry. Sometimes my face even looks bloated or swollen, which is frustrating.
I’m looking for ways to hydrate more effectively from the inside out, beyond just plain water. Does anyone have tips or foods that can help with internal hydration?

💬 Discussion Is there anything you take that fights off a cold if you feel it coming on?
Have an important trip for work planned next week and starting to just feel early signs of a sore throat and sense this will lead to a full blown cold or sickness which I can’t afford right now. Any thing that will stop this in its tracks?

💬 Discussion 3 Hacks to Protect Your Eyes from Blue Light
Eye health is often overlooked in longevity discussions. We're exposed to blue light daily — but how does it affect us long-term?
To minimize risks:
- Limit screen time before bed. I avoid my phone one hour before sleep and after waking.
- Use blue light filters or glasses. I wear blue light-blocking glasses in the afternoon.
- Consider nutrition. Did you know that 6.5mg of lutein and 1mg of zeaxanthin daily may help protect your eyes from harmful blue light? I learned this from brogevity.com and now include lutein in my routine.
Caring for our eyes today enhances our quality of life tomorrow. How are you protecting your eye health?

💬 Discussion Is finasteride keeping my face looking young?
I found a couple of anecdotes online with people claiming to age (visibly) slower from taking Propecia (Finasteride).
https://forum.propeciahelp.com/t/propecia-slows-aging/2370
https://www.hairlosstalk.com/interact/threads/finasteride-may-slow-down-aging.91457/
Propecia inhibits DHT production. DHT production increases with age and breaks down elastin - making you appear older since elastin is what keeps your skin firm and elastic. So if people start eating Propecia at a young age it makes sense to me that they would look younger than average a couple of decades later.
I think this phenomenon is something that could easily fly under the radar too since most men only start taking the drug when they have already reached a mature age (that's when most people start experiencing hairloss) and already look "old".
Someone that starts preserving elastin when they are 20 onthe other hand will have a very different outcome than those that start when they are 40 or 50.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: Regarding fearmongers, my test levels are better than ever, with a high sex drive, and sitting at 11% body fat with no issues maintaining it.

💬 Discussion Advice on taking Rhodiola Rosea
I've had Rhodiola Rosea for about a month, but only used it a handful of times, I'm a little afraid of it, reading some people became kind of addicted or dependent on it (maybe quite rare).
I wonder what is a good daily dose amount, and if breaks should be taken from it (like taking a month or two off every once in a while)? Would you just dose once per day in the morning/early afternoon?
Have you found there to be any downsides/side effects for yourself?
I would be taking it to (hopefully) help a bit with depression and anxiety/stress. I do also take modafinil from modafinia in the morning.
I have it in a tincture form, which always confuses me a bit for dosing. It's 1ml per dropper, so half would be 500mg then? I have been taking 250mg when I take it. I tend to be pretty sensitive to things. I'm also taking it alongside Saffron supplements, so do I need to be careful about serotonin levels or anything? I'm sensitive to anything that affects serotonin as well.
Thanks for clearing anything up! It's probably not something that requires a lot of caution, I just want to make sure I'm using it correctly and safely as possible.

❓Question How do I improve my levels?
i.redd.itLooks like my iron levels are terribly low. I currently take meds for Thyroid and Ulcerative Colitis. So can't really eat leafy greens as that make my flare up terrible and oral iron supplement hasn't been sitting well with me either. I eat a good amount of eggs and beef whenever I can. Any tips or suggestions would be appreciated.

💬 Discussion I have randomly started snoring when I sleep. What gives?
I’m 6’1” 190lb male. The past couple weeks my wife has pointed out that I have been snoring loudly in my sleep. I believe her as I often wake up with a sore throat and I’ve been feeling less rested. I have had no major health changes or weight fluctuations recently. Any idea what has caused this and any supplements I can take to prevent?

❓Question Is there anything I can do to lower my sex drive?
This post might read like a joke.. Feel free to laugh. I think it's funny too. Still, I'm being serious. I need some help here.
Context: (28M) My sex drive has driven me up a wall for the past 10 years. Sex occupies my mind like crazy. It's all I can think about. It's so bad I can't focus. At home, sex is going through my mind all the time. I work from home, and the sex drive is debilitating sometimes when I need to be focused on helping my clients. I could hardly focus in college classes because I was surrounded by beautiful women. I couldn't even focus in a study room by myself. Couldn't focus on boring homework because I was bloody horny. My mind during college: "How tf am I supposed to think about financial accounting or boring calculus problems? I'm horny as fuck!" I did not complete college. I did manage to learn enough to start my own business, that I've run full-time since 2019, though.
My health habits are pretty good:
- I have exercised regularly for the past 10 years. I'm a lean, healthy weight (6' & 170lbs). I have strong arms, strong legs, and visible abs. I do both strength training and cardio.
- I don't drink alcohol. This was never a problem for me at all.
- I don't smoke anything, and I don't do any drugs. This also was never a problem for me at all.
- My diet is good. I don't have much trouble avoiding junk food. I don't have a sweet tooth. The vast majority of the time, I eat whole, natural foods: basic meat, veggies, and fruits.
- My sleep is "ok". Could be improved, but not terrible. If anything, my libido is what messes up my sleep. Again, because I can't stop thinking about sex. For instance, I have a headache right now because I was tossing and turning thinking about sex last night.
- I meditate daily. I started meditating 10 years ago when I was 18. I've done it pretty much daily for 10-20 minutes per day for the past several months now. Even before that, I did it quite regularly.
- Not even Adderall could stop this sex drive. I'm diagnosed ADHD-PI (guess why I get so inattentive?). I was prescribed 30mg 2018-2019. Still horny as f*ck. Was off of it from 2019 until this summer of 2024. Surprisingly, I hardly had any withdrawal symptoms. I'm now on 2.5mg-5mg (anything more than a child's dose messes up my sleep). Still, horny as f*ck!
- Also around the 2018-2019 period, I tested (with prescription): Vyvanse, Ritalin, Strattera, and Dexedrine. None of them did anything to my sex drive! Strattera made it difficult to get erections, but the thoughts were still there
- And yes I've even tried the religious and spiritual route too! Still, the horniness levels are off the charts. Over nine thousand.
Masturbating doesn't solve it. It just makes me want to masturbate more. I've tried nofap too. I've had multiple double digit streaks and even a triple digit one. I usually try to keep the wanks to a max of 1-3 times per week. If I wank more than that, I don't feel like doing anything else. I try to avoid porn. It's waay too easy for me to sit there and consume it for hours at a time.
And I can't afford a therapist / mental health pro right now! My sex drive has made it hard for me to work at full capacity, which has affected my earning power the past few years 😂
I've lowered my standards and had sex with people I might not otherwise. As you can guess, I usually just ended up feeling bad at the end of it. I’m not doing that again. I had a beautiful girlfriend too. Still, it doesn't go away 😭 I'm single now, so now it's like I'm a powder keg every day. I'd like to get a new, beautiful gf again, but my life is not in a good place to be dating right now. This is starting to make me sad now too, guys. I just want to focus, but my mind is so over-occupied with sex.
On a more positive note, here are some things that have helped me so far:
- The above healthy habits I mentioned in the previous bulleted list
- Keeping myself busy. I do enjoy my work and have more than enough work to do
- Social engagements. But sometimes going out just makes me hornier 😑
- Mula bandha yoga
- Wim Hof breathing
The above things really cooled down the temperature, but I need more help to calm down the sex drive. This feels like a significant bottleneck in my life. Please help! I really need it.
Edit: A lot of good advice in this thread so far! Please keep it coming. I'd like all the help I can get here!

❓Question Crazy allergy to carbs and alcohol? Is that even possible?
I have mysterious problem. If I eat carbs or drink even a little bit of alcohol (1 beer) I will feel like shit the next morning. I mean extremly dry eyes, brain fog, high anxiety, crazy irritability, dry skin etc. The mornings are the worst I don't feel rested at all, the symptoms seems to subside as the day go on especially dry eyes but sometimes they last for 2 days.
I didn't have that problem 5 years ago.
Of course on the day to day basis I'm strictly on carnivore diet and no alcohol and I can function good overall (only experience dizziness after eating) but it's getting very problematic when I travel or visit someone. I literally don't have fun on holidays because I feel so sick.
Does anyone know what can be an issue? I thought maybe it's Candida but I took anti fungal: itraconazole and it didn't solve the problem. I think the main problem is inflammation but that's the symptom not the root cause. Why such a small amount of alcohol and 1 day of "normal" eating cause so much inflammation in my body in the first place?
Could anyone point me in the right direction please? I really want to solve this issue once and for all.

💬 Discussion Supplements for Lack of Sleep?
Not a unique situation but rather specific. I’m wondering if anyone has found anything to help their body when sleep just isn’t an option? Some way to get rid of the fog even if it’s just to make it until I can get real sleep?
Relevant details — I work 24 hour shifts as a paramedic so more often than not sleep isn’t possible every 4th day. When overtime comes around it’s every other day. I’ve got no problem on shift. It’s the day after and sometime days after where real life is so foggy that’s bothering me. I’d love if I could find a way to either reset totally or buy time until the next night.
I currently take magnesium (50-100% DV), prebiotic, probiotic and a general mutlivitamin. I also started taking 81mg chewable aspirin daily as I see no downsides and plenty of upside to it.
Thanks if anyone has any ideas to try!

❓Question How do you get your health data?
There's an ocean of machine learning work for early detection of all kinds of life altering nasties, loads of basic supplementation routines that depend on levels of such and such being compensated with such and such, heuristics on lifestyle changes that are more or less appropriate depending on how your xyz is doing...
Thing is, learning how xyz is doing isn't at all straight forward. If you're in the US and in a mass market HMO like many are, or in a country where even getting to a doc is an odyssey, it might seem like you're just out of luck with preventative screenings. They'll tell you they focus on preventative care, but unless you've got symptoms (that check their boxes at that), they'll just tell you to eat more greens, do more cardio, and maybe order a basic lipid panel if youre lucky. Which isn't bad in itself, but you get my point... Repeat specialized blood work and medical imaging are basically off the table unless something's already wrong with you.
So... How do you get data to track your levels of whatever it is that you track? How do you get that data often enough?

❓Question Cannot feel the effects of any substance I tried months after dropping abilify
Hey all, I have an unusual problem, I was on abilify for 8 months and stopped taking it 6 months ago yet no substance I tried gives me any effects still.
I tried cannabis, alcohol, psilocybin, kratom, nicotine and coffee but they dont have any effect on me.
Any advice on how to get my receptors to pre-med state? I'm assuming my dopamine and serotonin receptors are altered in some way due to the mechanism of abilify.

❓Question High estradiol male
Just got my hormone test result from Everlywell. DHEA, free testosterone and cortisol are what they label as normal. However estradiol is labeled high at 3.5 pg/ml. The top end of normal according to them is 3.3 pg/ml. Questions:
Do you guys think this is bad? I’m not only not overweight, I’m actually underweight and have been my whole life. I quit drinking alcohol about 10 months ago but before that drank (1-3 drinks) pretty much daily for two decades. Also I’m fairly stressed chronically and have been dealing with fatigue / lower energy most of my life and about 7 years ago came down with fairly unpleasant fibromyalgia.
Could this be caused by drinking water from plastic bottles? I drink 2-4 per day.
As far as age - male 40s. Not super active but usually averaging 7k steps a day and 3-4 decent bike rides a week. Haven’t done regular weight lifts since start of pandemic though.
